Immortality Simulator-Chapter 7: The Qiulong Devours The Sword
Crimson flames clashed against white sword lights, detonating in violent explosions. Below, Xuanjing City was engulfed in a sea of flames, caught in the crossfire.
The battle between the two did not last long. Kou Hong’s cultivation was inferior to Dao Xuanzi’s to begin with, and his earlier exposure to Immortal-Mortal Miasma had further drained his vital essence. Soon, he was forced onto the defensive.
Dao Xuanzi showed no mercy. His swordplay grew ever more ruthless, each strike sharper than the last.
Just then, the aged voice spoke again.
“Dao Xuanzi is fickle and vengeful. If he wins, none of us will survive. Men, heed my command: aid Immortal Master Kou Hong against Dao Xuanzi!”
Kou Hong’s face lit up with triumph.
He retreated swiftly from Dao Xuanzi, watching as the man was swallowed by a storm of bullets. “As the saying goes, he who digs a pit for others falls into it himself!” Kou Hong crowed. “Who would have thought the ever-righteous Dao Xuanzi would betray his own principles and suffer the consequences?”
Dao Xuanzi, already seething at the hidden schemer’s tactics, nearly vomited blood at Kou Hong’s taunts.
“You fool!” he roared, unable to contain his fury.
“Ah! So the truth is finally out!” Kou Hong shot back, undaunted. “You think you’re so smart, yet now even the mortals you painstakingly recruited have abandoned you! Truly, the clever often outwit themselves!”
Dao Xuanzi could only sigh inwardly, refusing to waste words on this imbecile. Instead, he unleashed waves of sword light, cutting down the mortal soldiers who dared attack him.
Yet the mortals swarmed like locusts. No matter how many he slew, more surged forward. Worse still, his fear of the Immortal-Mortal Miasma forced him to rely on costly long-range techniques, draining his energy further.
Soon, the battle reached a bizarre stalemate.
Then, like a vengeful specter, the old voice spoke once more.
“Immortal Master Kou Hong, my kin are nearly wiped out. Once Dao Xuanzi is done slaughtering us, do you truly believe you’ll be spared? If you don’t strike now, there may not be another chance!” The voice trembled with urgency, tinged with despair.
The words jolted Kou Hong into clarity.
He turned to Dao Xuanzi, his expression solemn. “You’re right. Dao Xuanzi, we’ve been comrades for a century. Though we turned on each other over the core formation method, the pursuit of immortality justifies any means. I’ll give you one last chance—abandon the manual and leave, and I won’t hunt you down. Otherwise, only one of us will be leaving alive.”
Dao Xuanzi exhaled softly but said nothing. Instead, he raised his sword and advanced.
“Very well. While you were chasing me earlier, I mastered a new Dao Technique, perfect for sending you off!” Kou Hong declared gravely.
Raising his hand, he traced a symbol in the air.
“Dao Technique: Caged Dragon!”
Flame-wrought shackles materialized around Dao Xuanzi, weaving into a vast array that encased him in a blazing cage.
“Break!” Dao Xuanzi gritted his teeth against the crushing pressure. Drawing a deep breath, the phantom of a rusted iron sword flickered into existence behind him.
The sword light launched from his strike was mysteriously augmented. When it struck the flaming cage, the roaring flames froze instantly, then rapidly dimmed.
Kou Hong appeared to have anticipated this and laughed heartily. “Dao Xuanzi, we’ve fought side by side for a hundred years, slaughtering foes together countless times. Outsiders claim my cultivation is far inferior to yours, and indeed, that is true. But cultivation is one thing, and life-or-death combat is another. If we truly fight to the death, who can say for sure which of us will win?
“Since things have come to this, hold nothing back. Let me see whether your Dao Xuan Sword is mightier, or if my Dao Technique prevails!”
Battle fury erupted in Kou Hong’s eyes as he roared, “Dao Technique: Devoured Dragon!”
The dimming flames suddenly extinguished completely, yet Dao Xuanzi’s expression twisted in alarm as the fiery prison vanished.
All along, countless tea-colored branches were hiding beneath the flames that had formed the prison. Like venomous serpents lying in ambush, they had been waiting silently for the perfect moment to strike. Now that the flames had vanished, they shot toward Dao Xuanzi with lightning speed. As they surged forward, they twisted and multiplied wildly, forming a grotesque, writhing monstrosity in the blink of an eye, ready to devour Dao Xuanzi whole!
Though startled, Dao Xuanzi remained composed in this critical moment. “Dao Xuan!”
Above him, the massive phantom of the rusted sword fully manifested.
The Qiulong Branches froze momentarily, as though encountering their natural enemy. But then, as if provoked into greater savagery, they lashed toward Dao Xuanzi with renewed ferocity.
Dao Xuanzi swung his sword, and the phantom behind him mirrored the sword’s movements.
The space before him solidified like water struck by biting frost, freezing in place layer by layer.
The writhing Qiulong Branches clashed against the colossal Dao Xuan Sword. After a brief struggle, they shattered and crumbled backward.
Then, they exploded into glittering fragments. What had seemed a fearsome attack proved no match for the Dao Xuan Sword!
Kou Hong’s carefully prepared Dao Technique had been effortlessly crushed. The massive sword phantom now hurtled toward him, yet Kou Hong neither dodged nor flinched, his eyes devoid of fear.
“Dao Technique: Transformed Dragon!”
At Kou Hong’s furious shout, a small portion of the scattered Qiulong Branch fragments suddenly came alive.
They converged at blinding speed, forming a single new Qiulong Branch.
Darker than the previous twisted monstrosity, its tip bore two protrusions like the horns of a dragon!
Heedless of all else, this Qiulong Branch shot toward Dao Xuanzi like a razor-sharp blade, its passage accompanied by the faint roar of a dragon!
A flicker of admiration flashed in Dao Xuanzi’s eyes, yet the colossal Dao Xuan Sword showed no sign of withdrawing.
In a battle of life or death, victory belonged to the more decisive and ruthless fighter!
The winner lived; the loser died. That was all.
At this moment, the aged voice that had been echoing throughout Xuanjing City spoke once more.
“Immortal Master Kou Hong, we shall lend you our strength!”
Before the voice had fully faded, long trails of fire streaked through the air with piercing shrieks, slamming into Dao Xuanzi from all directions. A storm of blood erupted around him!
“Ah!” Caught off guard, Dao Xuanzi let out a pained cry as his aura abruptly weakened. The sword phantom dimmed as well.
The Qiulong Branch seized the opportunity, surging against the tide. It shattered the frozen space and embedded itself into Dao Xuanzi’s body!
Meanwhile, the sword phantom Dao Xuanzi had unleashed, now spent like an arrow at the end of its flight, merely forced Kou Hong to cough up several mouthfuls of blood before dissipating.
“Cough...” Dao Xuanzi let out a bitter laugh, trying to speak but unable to utter another word.
In moments, the Qiulong Branch consumed him, reducing him to a pile of bones!
