Chapter 194: Chapter 194: I Like What You’re Thinking

"You found them already...?"

Adam stood up in shock, his chair scraping against the floor and causing several heads to turn their way.

"Relax, darling." The Forger didn’t even look up from his screen, grabbing Adam’s wrist. "You’re basically announcing we found something out."

"That’s... sorry." Adam slowly lowered himself back into his seat, forcing his shoulders to relax.

"Hmnhmn." The Forger calmly sipped his matcha before sliding his chair closer to Adam. He angled the laptop so they could both see.

Around them, phones appeared. Subtle at first—a woman pretending to check messages while angling her camera toward their table. A teenager openly recording, whispering to his friend about Adam the Endless having a secret meeting.

There was another, an old woman, who was even snickering and giggling with her face slightly reddening.

Adam stared at the screen. It was just a white background with blue lines crisscrossing like veins. One pulsing blue dot near the center.

"What... am I looking at?" Adam asked. "Is that where the Hospital is?"

"No, it’s here. You see that blue dot?" The Forger’s finger hovered over the screen. "That’s someone from the Hospital. Uh oh, don’t look around now. White shirt, brown pants, sitting by the pretzel stand."

Adam pushed back from the table. "Excuse me."

"Where are you—" The Forger watched him walk toward the restrooms, then return two minutes later, obviously trying to keep his face neutral, which made the Forger almost snicker there and then.

"I might’ve seen that guy at the IBAA," Adam said, settling back into his chair before letting out a loud sigh and almost sinking to his seat.

"Oh...?" The Forger raised an eyebrow. "That’s not the reaction I was expecting from someone who just found out they’re being spied on. Do you happen to have some kinks I’m not aware of, hm?"

"It’s... nothing like that." Adam breathed in, closed his eyes. "I’ve... been anxious since I found out there might be someone spying on me. Thinking it might’ve been someone from the RLRD."

He opened his eyes, meeting the Forger’s gaze directly.

"I’m glad it wasn’t. I’ve... grown to like them."

"You..." The Forger blinked, eyes widening. "You’re quite the sentimental, huh? I’m learning more and more about you, darling. You’re really honest with your feelings... and that’s not good in this world."

"I can afford to be honest." Adam shrugged, then lightly glanced back as he repeated, "I’m sure I’ve seen that man at the IBAA several times. We’ve... passed by several times, I think."

"Well, you’d be right." The Forger leaned even closer, fingers flying across the keyboard. "Here."

A window popped up. Profile photo, employment history, and clearance levels.

"Three years with the IBAA...?" Adam read quietly. "How do you know it’s not just someone the IBAA tasked to watch over me?"

"Hm, yeah. Because he has three phones on his person." The Forger smirked. "You know who carries three phones?"

"You." He pointed at Adam, then himself. "Me. Us, baby boy. People with something to hide. Tell me, how many phones are you carrying with you right now?"

"Hmm..."

"That’s what I thought, hm. And also, all his calls the last twenty-four hours, all all lead to phantom lines. Which also all lead to random phantom lines. Which finally led to one single location." The Forger’s fingers drummed against the table. "He also made a call near the RLRD during the day of the last Game, right when it started."

"He... called when Chip and I left for the nearest Dome."

"Hmhmn."

The Forger closed the man’s profile, and Adam immediately tried to zoomout the map with his fingers on the screen. Nothing happened.

"Darling." The Forger sighed. "Not everything is touchscreen."

He pulled the laptop away, typing rapidly. The map zoomed out, then the lines changed entirely—it was still white with blue lines, making it hard for Adam to actually discern where it was pointing.

"Where is that?" Adam asked.

"And that’s the greatest question with the most ridiculous answer, hm hmn." The Forger looked up, sipping his matcha with a smile on his face. "You couldn’t make this up even if you tried to. It’s in Area 51."

"That..." Adam’s eyes widened, then returned to normal. "Where’s that?"

"Are you serious right now?" The Forger stared at him in disbelief. "You really don’t know where Area 51 is? What? You live in a cave?"

He rolled his eyes, pulling the laptop completely away from Adam.

"What are you doing?" Adam asked.

"Area 51’s easy to infiltrate. I’ve already been there several times." The Forger’s fingers never stopped moving.

"You’ve... been there?" Adam’s eyebrows shot up.

"I meant I hacked into their systems several times. For fun." The Forger clarified without looking up. "Never found traces of the Hospital before. Whatever they are, their research and people are completely off-grid from the rest. Most probably deep underground." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"Underground..."

"Hmn. It actually makes total sense they would be hiding there—a lot of things have been rumored to be going on in that place."

"A... lot of things..."

"Government can just say everything’s a hoax if a whistleblower or someone said something."

"A hoax... hm..."

"Wh—Are you a parrot?" The Forger raised another eyebrow at Adam, but Adam just turned quiet and stared at the table seemingly deep in thought.

The Forger stared at him for a moment, and his typing started to slow.

"Is it true...?" he asked.

"Hm?" Adam looked up, confused.

"What they did to you there. Experimented on you. Or worse." The Forger stopped typing completely.

"Yes." Adam nodded. "They’ve probably killed me more than a million times. Each time slower than the last."

The Forger’s expression turned somber. "Because we’re freaks," he whispered.

Adam only glanced at him.

The Forger nodded, closing the laptop with a sharp snap.

"Let’s fucking get them, then. What’s the plan?"

Adam only pointed up.

The Forger squinted, following his gaze to the ceiling. Then his face broke into a wide smile.

"I like what you’re thinking."
