Immortal God of War-Chapter 101: Finding Fault _1
Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Finding Fault _1
The two steward Elders immediately ran in, said nothing, and started dragging Ling Yan and his companion away, turning to sprint towards the pigpen.
"Thank you, Hall Master. Thank you, Elder."
Fatty performed the traditional three kneels and nine bows in gratitude, tears streaming down his face.
However, he was sneering to himself. Trying to outdo Master Fatty? You’re simply courting death.
He then got up and returned to Cheng Yi and Lu Hong, whispering, "Are you satisfied with this huge surprise?"
"You’re ruthless. I wonder how long you can keep up this arrogance," Cheng Yi said, a cold light flashing in his eyes.
"We’ll see."
Fatty chuckled softly, his eyes flicking towards Lu Hong as he said, "Lu Hong, do you know why Master Fatty didn’t deal with you?"
Lu Hong’s eyebrows knitted together.
Fatty chuckled. "Because you’re too dirty. Master Fatty is afraid of sullying his pure heart by touching your hand."
Lu Hong’s anger suddenly flared.
"Don’t lose your cool," Cheng Yi quickly grabbed Lu Hong’s wrist and said in a low voice. "He wants to eliminate us one by one so he’ll have a chance to enter the Elixir King Palace. Hold on. Wait until after the assessment, then we can deal with him."
At this moment, Lin Chen put down his teacup, turned to Luo Xiong, and laughed. "Hall Master Luo, it’s getting late. Isn’t it time to confirm the list?"
"This..." Luo Xiong hesitated.
Cheng Yi stepped forward and said reverently, "Hall Master, I know you are waiting for Jian Haotian, but he hasn’t returned yet. He’s most likely met with misfortune. We shouldn’t make Lord Lin Chen wait with us because of one presumed dead person, should we?"
Lin Chen nodded in approval.
"Ha, you’re so eager for me to die, aren’t you? But I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed. I’m still alive and well."
Just then, a soft chuckle filled with heavy mockery sounded.
"Jian Haotian!"
Fatty’s corpulent body suddenly shivered.
Simultaneously, Feng Cheng, Elder Mo, and Luo Xiong all leaped to their feet in surprise and joy, looking towards the entrance of the hall.
A young man in rough clothes was making his way through the storm, step by step, towards the Elixir Fire Palace. On his shoulder, a sword wound was still bleeding. His face was as pale as paper, but his eyes were as bright as torches, incredibly sharp.
"How is this possible?"
"How could he have survived that? Can he fly or something?"
Cheng Yi and Lu Hong both wore incredulous expressions.
Lin Chen curiously looked at Qin Feiyang. From his appearance, there was nothing outstanding about him. Why did Luo Xiong and the other two value him so much?
Fatty pushed through the crowd, ran out of the hall, and laughed as he greeted Qin Feiyang, "Brother Jian, Master Fatty knew you’d make it! Your luck is just too good!"
Qin Feiyang was stunned. "Looking at your triumphant face, did you pull some shady stunt again?"
Fatty feigned offense. "What are you talking about? Master Fatty is a fine, upstanding young man, beloved by all. Don’t you dare tarnish Master Fatty’s reputation."
"You have a reputation?" Qin Feiyang rolled his eyes.
When it comes to shamelessness, even the White-Eyed Wolf probably isn’t one ten-thousandth as bad as this guy.
Fatty grinned. "To be honest, Master Fatty just did something big."
He then promptly whispered to Qin Feiyang about how he had framed Ji Jin and the other.
After hearing everything, Qin Feiyang looked bemused. Ji Jin and Ling Yan had only been out of the pigpen for a short while, and they were already thrown back in? They must hate Fatty to the core by now.
"Not bad. Good job. Keep it up." Qin Feiyang clapped Fatty on the shoulder. Although this act was dishonorable, it was indeed immensely satisfying. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
After entering the hall, the crowd automatically parted.
Qin Feiyang came before the three powerful figures—the Hall Master and two Elders—and bowed. "Greetings, Hall Master. Greetings, Elders."
Feng Cheng was about to lose his temper, but when he saw the sword wound on Qin Feiyang’s shoulder, his expression immediately shifted to one of concern. "What happened to your shoulder?"
Qin Feiyang smiled faintly. "On my way back, a couple of nobodies suddenly jumped out. I was careless and got injured, but it’s nothing serious. It won’t affect my Alchemy."
"Nobodies?" The surrounding disciples looked puzzled.
But the three powerful figures knew exactly what he meant.
However, now was not the time to investigate. Luo Xiong turned to Lin Chen and laughed. "I won’t bother writing the list. Let’s just say it: the reserved spot goes to Jian Haotian. The other two spots will be decided by survival of the fittest..."
However, before Luo Xiong could finish his sentence, Cheng Yi stepped forward again and said in a deep voice, "Hall Master, I object!"
"Stand down!" Luo Xiong shouted.
Lin Chen smiled. "Hall Master Luo, why don’t we hear his reasons for objecting?"
Luo Xiong raised an eyebrow and nodded. "Alright. Cheng Yi, speak quickly. Don’t waste any more time."
Upon hearing this, rage surged within Cheng Yi. Jian Haotian arrived so late, wasting so much time, yet not a word of blame for him. I’ve only said a single sentence, and now I’m accused of wasting time? This favoritism is too much, isn’t it?
He exhaled sharply. Taking a deep breath to compose himself, he bowed and said, "Everyone here knows that Jian Haotian is merely someone with connections, while the rest of us have reached this point through our own hard work. Therefore, this disciple hopes that the Hall Master can act with fairness and impartiality."
"Connections?" Lin Chen frowned, asking, "Cheng Yi, who is he connected to?"
Cheng Yi replied, "He has an engagement with Elder Feng’s granddaughter."
Lin Chen’s pupils constricted, and a chilling glint flashed deep within his eyes!
However, he quickly disguised it, turning his head to Luo Xiong with a chuckle. "Hall Master Luo, you understand the rules of the Elixir Palace better than I do. We can’t show favoritism, can we?"
Feng Cheng abruptly rose to his feet. "What a joke! How come I wasn’t aware that Jian Haotian is engaged to my granddaughter?"
Cheng Yi respectfully said, "Elder Feng, Jian Haotian said so himself."
Lin Chen smiled. "Since that’s the case, this reserved spot should go to someone else. Hall Master Luo, I recall you mentioning yesterday that Cheng Yi seems to possess Level Six spiritual power. Why not him?"
"Thank you, Lord Lin Chen!" Cheng Yi was overjoyed and hurriedly bowed in gratitude.
"I haven’t agreed yet. What are you thanking him for?" Luo Xiong spoke, his displeasure increasingly apparent. "Cheng Yi, I’m giving you a chance to back down. Don’t ask for trouble."
"Why should I back down?" Cheng Yi retorted. "Hall Master, I respect you greatly, but I never expected you to be so selfish. I dare not make claims about the path of martial arts, but on the path of Alchemy, I have absolute confidence I can crush Jian Haotian!" As he finished, Cheng Yi had completely lost his composure, roaring directly at Luo Xiong.
Lin Chen smiled faintly. "Level Six spiritual power is indeed outstanding, even in the Elixir King Palace. I suggest we settle it this way: the reserved spot goes to him."
"Is Level Six spiritual power really that remarkable?" Qin Feiyang, who had been silent all this time, finally spoke, his words laced with thick disdain.
"What did you say?" Cheng Yi whirled around, glaring at Qin Feiyang with a menacing gaze.
Lin Chen nonchalantly raised an eyebrow.
Qin Feiyang ignored Cheng Yi, turning to Luo Xiong and the two Elders with an inquisitive look.
Feng Cheng glanced at Lin Chen and Cheng Yi, then said to Qin Feiyang, "This is the moment we’ve been waiting for. Go all out!"
Hearing this, Qin Feiyang laughed, then turned back to Cheng Yi and said indifferently, "Crush me? Are you even qualified?"
Cheng Yi clenched his fists. "Then let’s find out!" he enunciated each word.
Qin Feiyang said, "How shall we test it? Go on, say it."
"Naturally, through Alchemy! Whoever refines a higher quality elixir gets the reserved spot. Do you dare?" Cheng Yi looked at him tauntingly.
Qin Feiyang chuckled. "Why don’t we add another condition? The loser will be at the winner’s disposal. Even killing them on the spot will be fine."
"What!" The disciples were aghast.
This was no longer a simple contest for a spot; it was a life-and-death gamble!
Luo Xiong and the other two couldn’t help but frown. Although Cheng Yi’s current behavior was somewhat unsatisfactory to them, they still held high hopes for his future. Moreover, they understood Qin Feiyang’s Alchemy standard better than anyone. If this life-and-death gamble were to proceed, Cheng Yi would undoubtedly die! This absolutely could not be allowed to happen!
Just as the three of them were about to intervene and stop it, Cheng Yi preemptively agreed, "Fine! It’s settled."
"Absolutely not!" Elder Mo shouted.
Cheng Yi turned to Elder Mo and bowed. "Elder, this is a mutual decision between Jian Haotian and myself. Please do not interfere."
Lin Chen laughed. "This is quite interesting. Elder Mo, just let them be. Besides, I don’t believe they would actually kill each other. At most, they’ll exchange a few humiliating words; it’s of no great consequence."
"This..." Elder Mo looked at Luo Xiong and Feng Cheng.
Luo Xiong waved his hand impatiently. "Fine, fine. Let them do as they please."
"Hmph. He won’t shed a tear until he sees his own coffin," Feng Cheng snorted coldly, obviously referring to Cheng Yi.
Cheng Yi, however, seemed oblivious, looking at Qin Feiyang with his head held high and chest puffed out. "You first, or me?"
"Either is fine," Qin Feiyang shrugged.
"Then I’ll go first! Keep your eyes wide open and see what true Alchemy is!" Cheng Yi smirked with disdain and strode towards the corridor.
At that moment, Lin Chen spoke again. "To save time, why don’t you both refine elixirs concurrently? Just make the simplest healing elixir. Cheng Yi, you use Alchemy Room One. Jian Haotian, you use Alchemy Room Two."
"Thank you, Lord Lin Chen!" Cheng Yi was ecstatic, bowing in thanks.
Qin Feiyang, however, wrinkled his brows. What does this Lin Chen mean? Why did he assign Alchemy Room One to Cheng Yi? Although Alchemy Room One and Alchemy Room Two differ by only a number, they are worlds apart in terms of elixir fire and Pill Furnace. Everyone knows the quality of the elixir fire and Pill Furnace affects the quality of the elixirs. Isn’t this man obviously helping Cheng Yi?
Lin Chen seemed to detect Qin Feiyang’s annoyance and said with a smile, "Jian Haotian, I assigned you Alchemy Room Two specifically to help you prove you’re not here because of connections. I’m doing this out of good intentions. Don’t disappoint me."
Qin Feiyang was taken aback. He had figured it out now; this man was purely a hypocrite, a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
"Don’t worry. I definitely won’t disappoint you."
After saying this, Qin Feiyang headed towards Alchemy Room Two, a hint of deep mockery at the corner of his mouth. Trying to scheme against him with such petty tricks? How laughable! They would soon find out just how naive such actions were. However, he couldn’t quite understand it. This was their first meeting, and they had no prior grievances. Why was Lin Chen deliberately targeting him?
