I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!-Chapter 179: Owner helping the thief
"Senior?" the girl repeated with a frown. "I am the Lead Investigator for this sector. I don’t have a ’senior’ on-site, and certainly no one was authorized to conduct such an interrogation by me."
The Butler’s face drained of color, turning a shade of grey that matched his vest. "But... the permit. The ship... they had Galactic Union’s..."
The moment the butler thought about it, things really started appearing like they were out of place. Now that he thought about it, he hadn’t really seen the permit. Or rather, that person had very cleverly manipulated him.
"If they really weren’t real investigators, then..." The Butler mumbled in disbelief.
"Grandfather is in danger!" Fiona exclaimed, expressing out loud what everyone had realized.
"We don’t have time! It might even be the person that’s behind all those explosions," the Investigator said, rubbing her temple in frustration. "We need to get to them before anything goes wrong. Do any of you know where they might have gone?!"
"I know the place! I can guide you there!" Multiple people said at the same time.
Without wasting any time, they followed the investigators outside, leaving the butler and others behind to handle the party without letting anyone know.
Amongst the family members that decided to follow the Union’s Squad, were the eldest Grandson of the Family, Fiona, and even the second son.
None of them wanted to be seen as someone that waited behind while the family head was in danger, especially this close to the selection of the next family head.
The only other person that they brought with them was the General of the Interplanetary Forces, telling them to immediately bring his forces and follow them.
Even though the Union’s Team told them that they could handle this without the need of an excessive army, the family members didn’t care.
And just like that, an entire entourage, much larger than the one that had followed the Lionel Family Patriarch, set out.
....
Meanwhile, in a secret dimensional realm, the old man lay on the polished floor, his eyes wide and bloodshot.
He tried to move his body, but his body simply refused to move. He could barely even move his lips. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
With trembling lips and a rough voice he asked, "Who are you?"
Leo knelt beside him, with a carefree expression as he asked, "I would love to take the disguise off, but it’ll be too much of a hassle to put it back. So I can’t show you my real face.’
"But I’m sure you’ve seen my face in the media to the point that you would have gotten sick already," he added. "After all, I’ve been quite popular recently, thanks to your family having me kidnapped..."
"Kidnapped...?" The old man still didn’t understand. Why would he have someone kidnapped?
Just as he was wondering, a thought struck his mind. He remembered that there was indeed one person that was legally kidnapped, thanks to him.
On the outside, it was called an arrest. But he knew the reality. And that kidnapping had created a huge sympathy wave for that person.
"Leo...? No... You should be..."
His lips barely moved as he talked. His words were also barely understandable, sounding like a person who couldn’t speak, was trying to form words.
"I should be what? I should be locked up in some prison where I would never see the light of day again?" Leo asked, reaching out his hand.
He placed his hand on the old man’s head, as he asked, "Is that what you thought?"
His fingers brushed against the man’s hair before he grabbed them, and raised his head.
"You know, I really want to kill you right now," he said, looking straight in the man’s eyes.
"If you kill me, the key will be destroyed and you will be locked here forever. You can’t kill me!" Lionel Family Head said, his eyes as red as a volcano. "Release me, or I will destroy the key and we will enter the afterlife together!"
"Go ahead. Destroy it." Leo casually said, the corner of his lips moving up.
Just as the man knew that Leo couldn’t kill him, Leo also knew that the man wasn’t going to destroy the key as long as there was even a small chance of his survival.
Even though he knew that, just for a failsafe, he still tried to lure that man into a trap.
"I don’t want to die here. I’m sure you don’t want to die here either. So why don’t you help me rob this place? When we are outside, your men and mine can have a good fight."
"If your side wins, you can take the items back, and have your revenge. If my side wins, I’ll take the items. Isn’t that a good wager?"
If the man could think straight, he would never accept such a wager even though it looked to be heavily tilted towards his side.
There were so many flaws in it, that he would have easily noticed a few if he was thinking straight. Even he didn’t realize that he wasn’t injected with a paralysis poison.
There were a few more additions to the poison which made him a little intoxicated, but just enough that he wouldn’t notice that his thoughts were forming a little slowly.
"I’ll take your silence for a yes." Leo stood up, and started looking around at the rows of priceless artifacts.
The plan was finally bearing fruit. He wasn’t here to steal a few gems; he was here to hijack the entire pocket dimension. However, he couldn’t let that man know.
As a show, he started putting all the items in his storage ring, emptying the entire floor right before that man’s eyes.
When Leo moved to the higher floors, he carried the man on his shoulder.
If there were traps, the old man had no choice but to warn him unless he wanted to be caught in them as well.
And just like that, the owner of the house had started helping the thief, all in the hopes that once they were outside, his men were going to take care of Leo.
