Chapter 46: Heaven for Rich People

Farnial Gourmet.

A restaurant and hotel located on the outskirts of the city, just by the edge of a huge river.

But that inconvenient location didn’t stop it from being ridiculously popular.

It’s the perfect definition of a rich person’s heaven; not only was there a various assortment of food, but the entertainment that came along with it was also plenty.

The price was ridiculous, though; one visit equalled my entire monthly allowance, and that’s saying something considering I was the son of a baron.

"Reservation, sir?"

A guard by the gate stopped me, wearing a full suit and tie, his only weapon being a simple shortsword sheathed at his waist.

For a location filled with VIP’s, you’d expect much better defenses, but that was exactly the point...

The people who consistently visited the place were important figures; they already had their own mercenaries or guards to protect them.

The establishment itself didn’t even need to invest in its own guards anymore; in fact, it was probably better guarded than most government buildings due to the sheer concentration of hired guards present.

"I’m meeting someone from D’Arclight."

I flashed the ring that Evelina previously gave me.

"I see, but I’m afraid you’d have to relinquish your... accessories."

The guard pointed at the dagger launcher on my wrist.

I didn’t mind; it’s not like it was the only way for me to defend myself.

"Thank you, sir. The receptionist by the gate will show you the way."

Good thing I didn’t have to pay... I already spent most of my money on that gadget, and while I was far from broke, I was definitely far from affording entry.

"Follow me, my lord."

A maid was already waiting for me by the entrance, with the D’Arclight insignia carefully carved on the cuffs of her sleeve.

I didn’t even need to see the receptionist anymore.

"Who’s that kid?"

"Isn’t he Lord Vance’s child?"

I could hear the nobles around me speak as I entered the building, shocked that some nobody son of a baron entered such a prestigious place.

And even crazier, being escorted by a maid of one of the region’s strongest families.

"Lady Evelina is just on the other side of the door."

The maid stopped at a very empty part of the establishment, where guards were positioned everywhere from the stairs up to the corridors.

All of them hired by the D’Arclight family, it was obvious that the entire third floor was theirs for the afternoon.

"That’s... certainly a lot of money."

I couldn’t help but chuckle; seeing such a public display of wealth was definitely new for someone like me who had always lived in the underbelly of society.

click!

I turned the knob, and there I was, greeted by a very comfortable room with a table adorned with a variety of food from all across the city.

And to top it all off? Evelina, wearing casual attire, compared to me, who was still wearing my school uniform.

"Are you not returning to the academy after your meal?"

"You mean this?" She grinned, gesturing to her attire. "I checked with the academy faculty in advance; our professors are busy handling the repercussions of the rushed tournaments with the students’ families."

She chuckled.

"That means we’re free the rest of the day."

"I-I see."

Evelina narrowed her eyes, surprised at my more than meek response despite my previous confidence.

"Something wrong?"

"No, I was simply too distracted in admiring your beauty that I forgot to give a proper response."

"You’re too predictable sometimes, y’know?"

Evelina sighed, but it was clear she didn’t mean it harshly.

"Did your family approve of you hanging out with someone like me?"

"No, but that didn’t matter. I’m more than sure they’ll approve of someone with skills like yours."

Evelina looked to the side. "In fact, I want to see more of it firsthand."

I was slightly confused about what she meant, but when I looked to the side, that confusion was quickly replaced with understanding.

A man in black, wielding this world’s version of a taser.

Once again, under the employment of Evelina.

But before I moved...

"Oh, don’t use magic. I wanted to confirm something."

"Understood."

So she wanted to test my capabilities against an armed fighter without magic? Guess that was understandable considering my fighting style back in the tournament.

Anyone would want to confirm firsthand if I was just as good at raw fighting as I was with magic.

Because beating up students in a rushed tournament wasn’t exactly the best way to determine the answer.

FWISH!

I stepped to the side before the taser touched me, responding with a quick kick to his groin.

Dirty? Yes, but against an armed attacker? I’d rather not get complacent and get absolutely fried.

"You dirty fuck—"

THUD!

A simple hook to the head, and that was it.

To be honest... I didn’t really expect to win that easily, guess he just really didn’t think I would kick his groin...

CLAP!

CLAP!

CLAP!

"How ridiculous..." Evelina laughed, very appeased at the result. "You just took out one of my family’s personal guards in seconds!"

"Guess I should take this as a lesson and restructure their entire training."

Evelina muttered, looking disdainfully at the unconscious guard.

"Useless, I can’t believe this."

Her voice quickly changed. While she definitely liked my result, it still didn’t excuse the failure of the guard.

[Dark Step]

She teleported the body outside, leaving him as a problem for the maid and the others outside the room to deal with.

"Anyways, guess I should explain why I brought you here."
