I'm In Love With the Guy I Grew Up With-Chapter 983: Because I’m Always Behind You
When Qiao Nancheng stammered out these words, the room fell silent, and no one made a sound.
Ji Yebai gave him a meaningful look, with a gaze full of surprise.
Ning Xixi twisted her fingers, unsure of how to respond.
The one with the biggest reaction, however, was Yu Qiange. After hearing it, she looked at Qiao Nancheng, then glanced at Ning Xixi, and couldn’t help but burst into tears.
Ning Xixi: "..." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Ji Yebai: "..."
Qiao Nancheng: "..."
The young girl cried even harder, as if utterly heartbroken, alarming the nurse who came rushing in.
"What happened? Did the patient have a medical issue?"
"N-no..." Yu Qiange sobbed, hiccupping as she spoke, "I’m just so sad."
The nurse stood speechless for a few moments, then quietly retreated, thoughtfully closing the door behind her.
"Get some rest, we’ll leave now." Ning Xixi broke the awkward atmosphere, gesturing towards the door.
Qiao Nancheng smiled, "Okay."
Ning Xixi turned to leave, but Qiao Nancheng called out to her, "Xixi."
"Hmm?" She turned back, puzzled.
"Are we... still friends?" Qiao Nancheng cautiously asked, a flicker of light dancing in his amber eyes, carrying a hint of plea.
Ning Xixi curved her lips into a smile, as if blossoms were blooming for miles. She nodded gently, "Yes!"
Qiao Nancheng visibly relaxed, as if a load had been lifted off his shoulders, with a somewhat goofy and simpleton smile.
After Ning Xixi left, Yu Qiange cried even harder.
"Why don’t you say it! If you don’t say it, how would she know!"
She seemed more upset than Qiao Nancheng.
Qiao Nancheng lowered his lashes, his eyes red, and let out a self-deprecating laugh, "Some words, there’s no need to say them. Saying them, we wouldn’t even be friends."
"What kind of friends! If you like her, you should tell her, pursue her, try to be with her!" Yu Qiange clenched her fists, crying her heart out, "Nancheng, you’re such a fool! The biggest fool in the world! I think you’re not worth it!"
After shouting loudly, she slung her bag over her shoulder and rushed out of the hospital room.
Qiao Nancheng endured the dull pain in his chest, lay flat on the bed, and closed his eyes.
A wet tear slipped from the corner of his eye.
Liking someone, there’s no worth or not worth in it.
If you gamble willingly, you must accept the loss.
...
Ji Family.
Ning Xixi took a soulless shower, climbed into bed, and stared off into space with her rabbit pillow in her arms.
Ji Yebai patted her shoulder, "Why didn’t you dry your hair?"
"Huh?" Ning Xixi stared blankly at him until Ji Yebai repeated himself, then she snapped back to reality, nervously saying, "I’ll do it now."
She jumped off the bed and forgot to put on her slippers, walking far with bare feet. Unable to bear it, Ji Yebai scooped her up and placed her back on the bed.
He brought a hairdryer and started gently drying her hair.
"Dabai..." Ning Xixi’s soft voice almost dissolved in the hum of the hairdryer, "I feel a bit uncomfortable..."
Ji Yebai turned off the hairdryer and looked directly at her, "What’s making you uncomfortable? What’s wrong with being liked by someone?"
"But, I..."
"There’s no ’but’! Remember, you are Ning Xi, you can’t be wrong! Whatever you do is right!"
"Why?"
"Because you have me behind you."
