Chapter 14 - RIP

[Ding! You have received a blessing!]

[Blessing Acquired: Draconic Decree!]

[Effect: The power to call upon all living dragons at will!]

Luka froze, his mind racing to process the words of the system.

His head felt light, as if the weight of the entire world had just shifted in an instant.

'A blessing?' Luka thought, his heart thudding in his chest.

He had never anticipated receiving one, especially not in a place like this.

Especially a blessing so soon in early game...

Before Luka could fully comprehend it...

Kaida's voice interrupted his daze.

"If you ever find yourself in danger," she said, her massive frame now retreating toward a heap of glittering gold, "call upon us. We will heed your call, human."

She stretched, arching her long neck and letting out a deep, contented sigh, as gold coins slipped through her claws, tumbling to the floor with a soft clinking sound.

Kaida yawned lazily. "But..." she trailed off, her tone becoming somewhat more serious, though still tinged with sleepiness.

"Be careful. When you use such a blessing, I doubt the human continent will be able to withstand the full power of it... Now, if you'll excuse me.—..."

She shifted once more, rolling onto her side, curling into a ball like a cat with a blanket of gold.

Before Kaida could finish her sentence, she was already asleep, her massive wings folded around her like a cocoon.

Luka didn't know how long he stood there, staring blankly at the slumbering adult dragons, before the soft growl of Snow snapped him back to reality.

Snow was nudging him gently with his nose, trying to get his attention.

Luka blinked, realizing that they had overstayed their welcome.

"Ah, sorry, little guy," he mumbled, finally tearing his eyes away. "Yeah, we should go."

Snow let out a growl of impatience.

With a final glance, Luka sighed and began walking toward the exit.

'The game hasn't even started, and I already got an overpowered ace up my sleeve... Thank, Lord, holy shit!'

Luka stood outside the stone door, his body curled into a fetal position on the cold ground.

His face was pale, the color drained from his skin as a sinking realization hit him.

'No, it can't be...' he thought, eyes wide in disbelief.

His backpack—everything he had carried on him, was crushed earlier beyond recognition.

Luka stared at the pile of twisted fabric and broken straps.

The health potions... all destroyed...

A bitter taste filled his mouth as the weight of the loss sank in.

Every coin spent, every potion carefully prepared, now rendered useless in an instant.

Despite being a noble in this game-like world, Luka had always hated wasting money...

The sting of the coin loss felt as sharp as a dagger to his gut.

But amidst the despair, there was a small consolation—his bow and arrows, dropped earlier in the chaos, were still intact, albeit slightly bent.

Luka's fingers brushed the feathers of his arrows, feeling a fleeting sense of relief.

As the sun began to dip beneath the horizon, the light filtered through the waterfall, casting long shadows across the ground.

Luka could practically hear his personal maid's voice in his mind, scolding him for being so careless.

'She must be worried sick right now...'

A faint sigh escaped his lips as he glanced down at Snow, who was watching him with a puzzled expression.

Snow's head tilted slightly, as if asking, "Why are you like this, human?"

Luka couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle at the sight, his mood lifting, if only a little.

He knew he couldn't change what had happened.

There was no use dwelling on it any further.

With a deep breath, Luka pushed himself off the ground.

He carefully picked up his bow and secured the arrows to his clothing, ensuring they were safely fastened.

Then, he scooped up Snow, holding him close to his chest.

"Alright, let's move, Snow," Luka muttered.

He then began walking forward. He paused right before the waterfall, calculated the distance, and then leaped off to the side.

Going through the mist, his feet landed on a rock.

He then began jumping from rock to rock.

With a final push, Luka landed softly on the grass below, his boots sinking slightly into the damp earth.

"Alright, now where is that sped-like donkey?" Luka muttered under his breath, scanning the area with narrowed eyes.

His patience was wearing thin.

It had already been a frustrating day, and the last thing he needed was for his only ride back to the fortified settlement to disappear.

He shifted Snow onto his shoulders, his movements careful as he adjusted the baby dragon, when something caught his eye.

A pool of blood.

Luka's eyes widened.

"What the...?" he whispered under his breath.

He moved toward the blood, stepping lightly, trying not to jostle Snow too much.

When he crouched down to examine the pool more closely, the full extent of the scene hit him.

"Holy shit, this is a lot of blood," Luka muttered. He could smell the metallic tang of it in the air.

He stood, gazing at the trail of blood that led further into the trees.

Luka frowned, piecing the situation together.

"Welp, seems the donkey is dead... That's just great!"

Luka knew the donkey had been his only means of travel, and now it was gone...

'Walking back to the fortified settlement on foot is gonna be a nightmare.'

He sighed, shaking his head. "Welp, time for us to get moving, huh, Snow?" he said, glancing to his shoulder.

Snow gave a small chirp in reply, clearly ready to continue on, oblivious to the predicament they were in.

Luka couldn't help but smile at the little dragon's energy, but it did little to ease his frustration.

He looked back at the blood trail for a moment.

He wasn't stupid enough to follow it.

That path would only lead him straight into danger, and he was already low on supplies.

He had to be cautious, especially with Snow to protect.

Plus, his arrows were running low, and he was still slightly drenched from the waterfall.

"I don't have a death wish today." Luka gave the blood trail one last glance before turning away.

He then raised his hands in an imaginary prayer, too lazy to actually do it properly.

"So I'll just pretend I didn't see this. RIP, donkey."
