It had been ten days since Xie Xuanchen led his troops to leave Enzhou City.
In fact, ten days was not a long time. There were servants to talk to Mu Mingtang and every now and then, the Senior Governor’s wife would come with her daughter to pay their respects to Mu Mingtang. Although Mu Mingtang was alone, she was not lonely.
But Mu Mingtang just felt that these ten days were extremely long.
Mu Mingtang would stare blankly at the sunset every evening. At first, the servants tried to make her happy, but after a few unsuccessful attempts, no one dared to disturb her during this time.
It was the same today. Mu Mingtang stared at the sparkling golden water outside the window for a long time and suddenly asked, “Is it already the 6th day of the Lunar New Year?”

Mu Mingtang sighed quietly, “It’s already been 10 days.”
The servant lowered her head even more, not daring to comfort but also not knowing how to either.
The day Mu Mingtang mentioned was the last time she saw Xie Xuanchen before he left to lead his men in hopes to intercept Ye Luji. Ye Luji had 80,000 soldiers with him but Xie Xuanchen only brought 30,000. There were no city walls to rely on out there and there were no trebuchets or other equipment to borrow, so for this fight, they could only rely on their numbers.
But Ye Luji’s soldiers amounted to more than twice as many as Xie Xuanchen’s.
Even the servants felt frightened after hearing this comparison, let alone Mu Mingtang.
Mu Mingtang was stunned again for a while. The sun set in the west and the golden afterglow over the water gradually dissipated, finally falling into a state of serene silence. Mu Mingtang felt a little cold, so she stood up and said, “Prepare some water— I want to take a bath.”
Mu Mingtang was the only one in the house. She had two snacks in the afternoon, but she didn’t have much of an appetite in the evening and was too lazy to eat. Mu Mingtang stood up in shock and asked, “What’s wrong?”
When the horn sounded, it meant that there was an enemy attack.
Mu Mingtang immediately sent a servant out to investigate. After a while, the maid ran in with a reddened face, “Princess, it’s not an enemy attack, it’s the Prince who is back!”
Mu Mingtang was even more surprised, “Huh?”
“It turned out that it was dark and the observer couldn’t see clearly from the observation deck, leading him to think that it was an enemy attack. After they got closer, he could make out His Highness’s features and realised that these were our men before hurriedly opening the city gates. Currently, His Highness and the soldiers are riding back into the city.”
