Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 92: Then I’ll Marry Her
"What’s the job?" Seeing so much money, the man’s face instantly lit up with greed.
Money talks, and for the right price, he was willing to be the devil himself.
"Here’s five hundred thousand. It’s just the deposit. I’ll give you another five hundred thousand when it’s done," Sharon Quincy said, taking out a bank card and waving it in front of him.
"You can count on me. I’m the one who faked your academic records for you, remember? Here in Veridia, if I want something done, it gets done." The man squinted, stroking his lower lip with a confident smirk. "You’re doing pretty well for yourself, having become Selina Nathan. What’s next? Making the *real* Selina Nathan disappear?"
"That won’t be necessary. And I’m warning you, don’t get any funny ideas." Sharon Quincy’s gaze turned cold. "Have you forgotten that the last person who kidnapped Selina Nathan is already dead?"
The man’s squinted eyes widened slightly.
I heard the first person who kidnapped Linden Nathan’s daughter served a few years in prison. But not long after he got out, he died in a car crash.
The crash was officially ruled an accident, but who knows if it was truly an accident or not.
You had to admit, Linden Nathan’s methods were not to be trifled with.
The man dropped his playful tone. "Sharon, you need to remember, you and I are partners for life. I’m not like that punk Finn Hawthorne. Just say the word, and I’ll always be there to help you."
At the mention of Finn Hawthorne, Sharon Quincy’s expression grew even colder.
"We all came from the same orphanage. I have no idea what’s gotten into Finn Hawthorne, helping an outsider like that."
"What else could it be? Love, obviously." The man shrugged helplessly. "A girl that looks like Cecilia Nathan? Who wouldn’t fall for her?"
Finn Hawthorne was, in some ways, even more ruthless than him. The only reason he’d choose to help someone he’d only met once was that he’d fallen for her.
"You’re saying he likes Cecilia Nathan?" Sharon Quincy’s eyes lit up.
’I can’t believe I didn’t think of that.’
’Then again, with looks like Cecilia Nathan’s, she certainly has what it takes to be a siren.’
"Lay low for a while. Wait for my call."
...
The moment Sharon Quincy stepped out of the small house, a report was delivered to Damian Hawthorne.
"Mr. Hawthorne, Selina Nathan went in with several hundred thousand. By the time our men got to the room, the other person was already gone."
The man who spoke was completely baffled.
’Our men had all the other windows in that room covered. How could he have just vanished?’
Damian Hawthorne stood by the window. He turned his head and lit the cigarette dangling from his lips, his posture casual and unrestrained. "Is that all?"
"They were speaking too quietly. We couldn’t hear anything from outside."
Damian Hawthorne nodded. He wasn’t surprised.
Ever since this "Selina Nathan" started targeting Cecilia, he had been keeping a close eye on the woman.
He suspected there was something off about Selina Nathan’s identity.
As for who or what she really was, he’d only find out once Linden Nathan arrived in Korsyth.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Damian Hawthorne looked up as Frances Bennett walked in, carrying a fruit bowl.
"Damian, darling, come. Mom cut up your favorite fruit for you." Frances Bennett placed the fruit on the table, then glanced at the rather stiff-looking man standing nearby. "And who are you? I don’t believe we’ve met."
The man was about to introduce himself, but Damian Hawthorne just curled his lip and gestured toward the door. "You can go."
The man took the hint and immediately left, not missing Frances Bennett’s suspicious glance.
Frances Bennett sat down in front of Damian Hawthorne with a smile. "I thought I heard you two mention Selina Nathan. Is something wrong?"
Damian Hawthorne lazily lifted his gaze. "It was nothing."
"Damian, your mother heard that you spent thirty million on Cecilia Nathan..." Frances Bennett said, stealthily gauging her son’s reaction. "Hugo’s mother already considers Cecilia her future daughter-in-law. If you spend money on her now, aren’t you just throwing it all away for nothing?"
"You’re right," Damian Hawthorne said, lowering his gaze with a thoughtful smile. "It’s like I’m raising a wife for another man."
"Exactly! I’m glad you understand." Frances Bennett was afraid her son was being played for a fool. "So we can’t be spending money so carelessly. You’ll have your own wedding expenses to think about."
Even if he were to marry into her family, the Hawthorne Family couldn’t possibly contribute nothing.
Besides, it wasn’t even certain that he would be the one marrying into their family.
As long as Linden Nathan didn’t demand it, the Hawthornes weren’t dead set on having their son marry into the Nathan family.
"Then I’ll just marry Cecilia Nathan. Problem solved."
The moment Damian Hawthorne spoke, Frances Bennett’s expression changed. "Damian, what are you talking about? Have you forgotten your promise to Selina Nathan? Didn’t you say you were going to marry her?"
Damian Hawthorne lowered his gaze, a mocking smile playing on his lips.
’Frances Bennett is so fond of Selina Nathan,’ he thought. ’I wonder if she’ll have a complete breakdown when she finds out the truth about her identity.’
Even though Frances Bennett was his mother, he had no intention of warning her.
’Today it’s Selina Nathan, tomorrow it’ll be Selina Northwood.’
As long as he remained unmarried, Frances Bennett would never give up.
"I was just kidding." Damian Hawthorne rubbed his temples. "If there’s nothing else, you can go. Thanks for the fruit."
Damian Hawthorne’s polite dismissal left Frances Bennett speechless.
She knew this son of hers had always been strong-willed and wasn’t particularly close to her.
The thought that the son she had given birth to was so distant from her made Frances Bennett’s chest tighten with frustration.
"Damian, don’t you ever say something like that again. I’ve already told people about the marriage alliance with the Nathan Family. You... can’t let me down."
After saying this, Frances Bennett’s right eyelid couldn’t help but twitch.
She didn’t know why, but she couldn’t shake a feeling of unease.
Shaking off her distracting thoughts, Frances Bennett had barely stepped out of Damian Hawthorne’s room before she was calling Selina Nathan.
"Selina, dear. You mentioned last time you wanted to spend more time with Damian, didn’t you? Well, he’s at home right now. Why don’t you come over? I’ll play matchmaker for you two."
"Okay, thank you, Mrs. Bennett."
Sharon Quincy hung up, a wide smile spreading across her face as she looked at the man before her.
"Once I marry Damian Hawthorne, I’ll have him drop all the charges against you. What’s more, I can even help you get together with Cecilia Nathan. How about it? Will you work with me?"
Finn Hawthorne held his little sister, his eyes rimmed with red as he stared daggers at Sharon Quincy. "I won’t work with someone who disgusts me."
"Now, don’t say that. It may have been disgusting, but you enjoyed it too, didn’t you?"
Sharon Quincy spread her hands and leaned in, a wicked smile on her face. "She’s not your biological sister, and you’re adopted yourself. You don’t have to be so protective of her, do you?"
The little girl in Finn Hawthorne’s arms shrank back in fear.
Sharon Quincy looked down at the little girl, her gaze condescending as her eyes darkened.
’It must be nice to have someone who cares about you.’
’Unlike me. I have to fight for everything on my own.’
Finn Hawthorne used to help her just like that.
But now, Cecilia Nathan’s appearance had made Finn switch sides completely.
How could she not be filled with hatred?
"Things will never work out between Cecilia Nathan and Damian Hawthorne. Her family background is poor, but she’s a perfect match for you. Besides, she has a soft spot for you. Once you two get together, I can even give you a generous gift."
Sharon Quincy’s words were skillfully persuasive.
Finn Hawthorne knew too many of her secrets. At Cecilia Nathan’s request, he was now surrounded by bodyguards. She had to move heaven and earth just to lure them away; otherwise, she wouldn’t have even gotten a chance to see him.
After finding out that Finn Hawthorne had feelings for Cecilia Nathan, she’d changed her strategy.
She and Finn Hawthorne had come from the same orphanage; she knew exactly what he wanted.
Low self-esteem, coldness, and greed were traits they all shared.
Sure enough, Finn Hawthorne looked at her coolly and asked, "What do you want me to do?"
