Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Who Are You Counting On to Help You? Cecilia Nathan?

Korsyth Gardens.

Cecilia Nathan was setting a cup of coffee on the table.

Chloe Sutton sat on the sofa, looking around and making a "TSK TSK" sound.

"Cecilia, this place couldn’t have been cheap! You were so smart to snatch up this apartment early on. This area is prime real estate, and the prices have gone insane."

From the decor to the layout, she loved everything about this apartment. It was the perfect size for one person.

Cecilia Nathan picked up her coffee and took a light sip. "Just lucky, I guess."

She didn’t mention that, in fact, the entire building belonged to her family. She had simply transferred this one unit into her own name.

She had always maintained the public persona of an orphan, not even telling Chloe Sutton the truth.

Ever since she was kidnapped as a child, her father had spent a fortune to create a new identity for her.

After all, the identity of the sole daughter of the Nathans of Aethelgard was far too conspicuous.

Chloe Sutton was relaxing on the sofa when, just then, the ringing of a cell phone shattered the silence.

Seeing that the call was from her father, Chloe answered happily, "Hey, Dad, what’s up?"

"Chloe, Dad’s company is in trouble."

"What happened?" Chloe’s smile vanished. "It’s okay, Dad, just tell me what’s going on."

"I don’t know what happened today, but all of our partners suddenly came to collect their debts at once," Mr. Sutton said, his voice tense and trembling. "Chloe, we could have managed the cash flow until the end of the month. But for some reason, they’re all insisting we pay them back in full today. That’s eighty million! A small company like ours doesn’t have that much liquid capital. Where am I supposed to get eighty million for them right now? Chloe, did you offend someone?"

"Who could I have offended..." Chloe’s voice trailed off as she immediately recalled cursing out Damian Hawthorne’s mother not long ago.

’Could that old witch have done this?’

If Frances Bennett was behind it, then it all made sense.

"That old witch..." Chloe muttered a curse, then took a deep breath and said to her father, "Dad, don’t worry. I have some money, I’ll transfer it to you in a bit. Just try to stall them for now. I’ll figure something out on my end."

After hanging up, the color didn’t return to Chloe’s face.

Cecilia Nathan looked at her friend, frowning slightly. "What’s wrong?"

"My dad’s company is being targeted." Her dad’s business was just a small decoration company with a few dozen employees; its biggest fear was a cash flow problem.

Her mother was still in the hospital waiting for treatment. If the company went under, her mother’s health would likely be affected as well.

DING DONG DING DONG. The doorbell rang.

When Cecilia Nathan opened the door, she immediately saw Serena Hughes standing outside.

Serena Hughes looked at Cecilia Nathan with a beaming smile. "Hello, Cecilia Nathan. I’m here to see you about something."

After speaking, she glanced inside the apartment, and her eyes lit up slightly. "Oh, Chloe Sutton is here too?"

"Don’t be so familiar. It’s not like we’re close. I certainly don’t have a two-faced snake for a sister," Chloe shot back bluntly.

Serena Hughes’s face stiffened slightly.

"Chloe Sutton, who are you calling a two-faced snake? That’s a hurtful thing to say."

"What is it you want?" Cecilia Nathan frowned, her tone sharp.

Ever since this address was exposed, all sorts of unwelcome people had been showing up at her door.

’Looks like it’s time for me to move.’

"I am here for a reason. To be precise, I’m not here for you, I’m here for Chloe Sutton." Serena Hughes gave Chloe a deep look. "I heard your dad’s company is in trouble?"

"Then you heard wrong... Besides, what’s it to you?"

"Your father’s company is facing a major crisis. If no one steps in, it definitely won’t survive. But I can help you."

"You?" Chloe Sutton looked her up and down, then scoffed. "Go on, then. How can you help?"

"I know you don’t believe me, but that’s okay. I admit, I wasn’t much of anyone before, but I’m not the same Serena Hughes anymore." Serena smiled smugly. "You know Fiona Sinclair, right? She’s my grandmother."

Fiona Sinclair?

Chloe Sutton raised an eyebrow.

Fiona Sinclair was the current head of the Sinclair Family. The Sinclairs were considered upper-class in Korsyth, and rumor had it that Fiona Sinclair had single-handedly built the entire family’s fortune, with a net worth of over ten billion.

’To think someone like that was actually Serena Hughes’s grandmother!’ 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Cecilia Nathan lifted her gaze and glanced at Serena Hughes.

’No wonder Damian Hawthorne’s mother had a change of heart. So, Serena Hughes is Fiona Sinclair’s granddaughter.’

’With a connection like that, it’s no wonder Serena Hughes is acting so smug.’

"So what if it’s Fiona Sinclair? She’s your grandmother, not your mother. What’s there to be so proud of?"

Serena Hughes said with a radiant smile, "My grandmother is very fond of me. Your company is small. As long as my grandmother says the word, your dad’s company can be saved."

"I also heard your mother is waiting for a kidney transplant, and that will require a lot of money in the future. Chloe Sutton, besides my grandmother, who else can possibly help you now?"

Chloe Sutton pressed her lips together and asked in a low voice, "What do you want?"

"It’s simple. I just need a piece of paper from Cecilia Nathan." Serena Hughes looked at Cecilia and winked. "Cecilia Nathan, a piece of sheet music versus your friend’s father’s company... it should be obvious which one is more important, right?"

At that moment, Serena Hughes was feeling incredibly pleased with herself.

She hadn’t expected Fiona Sinclair to be so ruthless and efficient, getting all this done in less than half a day.

Cecilia Nathan might not be afraid of threats, but Chloe Sutton definitely was.

"So that’s how it is..." Cecilia Nathan’s lips curved into a smile. "If I give you the sheet music, you can help Chloe’s father?"

"Of course!" Serena Hughes lifted her chin proudly. "Don’t underestimate my grandmother. She’s well-connected. As long as she says the word, people will give her some face."

"We don’t need it!" Chloe Sutton looked at Serena Hughes with disgust. "We don’t need your help, and Cecilia won’t give you that thing. Get lost. I don’t need your crocodile tears."

"Chloe, right now, no one can help you except for my grandmother. Who are you pinning your hopes on? Cecilia Nathan?" Serena Hughes shot Cecilia a glance, her smile full of hidden meaning. "Cecilia Nathan, you probably don’t know this, but in upper-class circles like ours, only people with status are qualified to help others. I didn’t understand that before, but I do now. Though, with your current perspective and status, you probably never will. That piece of sheet music of yours can save your friend. Whether or not you help Chloe Sutton now is entirely up to you."

Serena Hughes didn’t need Chloe Sutton to yield; she needed Cecilia Nathan to.

She didn’t want anything else. She only wanted that piece of sheet music.

If Cecilia had sold it to her earlier, she wouldn’t have had to ask her grandmother for help.

But she knew that once her grandmother made a move, it was guaranteed to succeed.

Because Cecilia Nathan and Chloe Sutton had no other choice.

Her grandmother had already done her research. Although Chloe Sutton was a host, her personality kept her from being as popular or successful in the entertainment industry as other hosts.

And her father only ran a small decoration company. With her mother in the hospital, the company’s money was practically her mother’s lifeline.

Other than having Cecilia Nathan give her the sheet music, Chloe Sutton had no way out.
