Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Press Conference

"What do you think?"

Hearing Frances Bennett’s words, Serena Hughes couldn’t hold back any longer.

"Frances, are you really planning to set up the Nathan family’s daughter with Mr. Hawthorne?" πŸπš›π•–πšŽπ•¨π—²π›πš—π¨π―πžπ•.πœπ—Όπ—Ί

’But I was supposed to be the one she was setting him up with. Why is Frances suddenly looking for other candidates for Damian Hawthorne?’

’After going to so much trouble to change my identity and make myself a worthy match for Mr. Hawthorne, some daughter from the Nathan family just pops up out of nowhere.’

"Serena, it’s not about matchmaking," Frances Bennett explained with a gentle smile. "Once you’ve been in this circle for a while, you’ll understand. Every gathering is a networking opportunity, and you don’t attend them with only a single goal in mind."

"The goal of these gatherings is collaboration, mutual benefit, and expanding our social networks."

Frances Bennett spoke with such sincerity that Serena Hughes was at a loss for words.

If she said she didn’t like the idea of the Nathan family’s daughter, it would just make her seem petty.

She glanced up at Damian Hawthorne, only to find that he wasn’t objecting either.

"Regarding the proposal, I’ll be holding a press conference tomorrow to explain that it was all just a misunderstanding."

Suddenly, Damian Hawthorne’s voice cut in, and the color drained from Serena Hughes’s face.

"A press conference..."

’Wouldn’t that be a complete and utter slap in the face?’

Clearly, Frances Bennett also realized this was a bad idea. She cleared her throat and said, "What’s this about a misunderstanding? Everyone already knows about it. If you two are fated to be together later on, you can just roll with it. It would even save you the trouble of another proposal."

Serena Hughes’s heart lurched, and the color drained from her face.

She admitted she shouldn’t have proposed to Damian Hawthorne on her own initiative. But if he really held a press conference to "explain," how could she ever show her face in Korsyth again?

Forget Korsyth; she wouldn’t even be able to face her own family.

"Mr. Hawthorne... if you hold this press conference, my life will be ruined." Serena Hughes looked at Damian Hawthorne, her voice pleading.

She didn’t understand. In just a few short days, it was as if Damian Hawthorne had become a completely different person.

’It seems to have started back at the old mansion.’

’Could it be? Has Damian Hawthorne already figured out that I’m not Luna?’

At this thought, Serena Hughes began to tremble so violently that she nearly collapsed, only managing to stay upright by grabbing onto a nearby table.

"You know that proposal was just a farce." Damian Hawthorne watched her with an amused, mocking expression. "If you want to clear the air, a press conference is the only way."

"There’s another way." Serena Hughes bit her lip, her voice filled with shame and anger. "I can go to the media and explain... I’ll tell them I was the one who proposed, not you..."

It was better for her to say it herself than to have Damian Hawthorne slap her in the face with a press conference.

"Fine." Damian Hawthorne’s voice was deep and unreadable, betraying no emotion.

Serena Hughes stood there, feeling wronged, tears welling up in her eyes.

This was the first time she had ever been so bold, and this was the result she got.

’But Mr. Hawthorne was the one pursuing me. How did things end up like this?’

Serena Hughes was overcome with a sense of grievance and sorrow.

Seeing how awkward the atmosphere had become, Frances Bennett quickly tried to smooth things over. "Let’s put this aside for now. There’s no rush. Serena hasn’t been officially acknowledged by the Sinclair Family yet, so having this get out wouldn’t be good for her."

After she spoke, she shot Damian Hawthorne a warning look. "We should at least give the Sinclair Family some face."

At that moment, even Frances Bennett couldn’t understand her own son.

’He was so protective of Serena just a short while ago. Why the sudden change of heart?’

Serena Hughes was too upset to stay. "Frances, Mr. Hawthorne, I’m not feeling well. I’m going to head back first."

With that, Serena Hughes turned to leave. Frances Bennett hurried after her. "Serena, wait. I need to talk to you."

After Serena Hughes left with Frances Bennett, Damian Hawthorne’s gaze drifted over and happened to land on the file about the Nathan Family on the table...

Downstairs from Hawthorne Enterprises, Serena Hughes and Frances Bennett walked side by side.

"Frances, I heard that the Nathan family’s daughter, the one who’s never been seen in public, is supposed to be very ugly... Are you really going to introduce her to Mr. Hawthorne?"
