Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 176: President Nathan’s Rage
At these words, Cecilia Nathan let out an exasperated laugh.
"Damian Hawthorne didn’t bully me. The one who bullied me was Zoe Lynch."
...
Zoe Lynch breathlessly caught up to Dominic Nathan.
"Dominic, wait for me."
Zoe Lynch was known for being cheerful at the company. Because she was savvy with people and highly ambitious, she was very popular within the Nathan Family.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have reached her current position.
After all, she was the only female executive in the entire Nathan Family enterprise.
As Dominic Nathan and Mona Nathan walked together, his right eyelid kept twitching.
The twitching seemed to have started a few minutes ago.
Dominic Nathan lowered his voice and asked, "Zoe Lynch, are you sure Cecilia Nathan isn’t Selina Nathan?" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
A shiver ran down Zoe Lynch’s spine. "Dominic... aren’t you Selina Nathan’s uncle? Don’t tell me you don’t even recognize the real Selina Nathan?"
In fact, Zoe Lynch had been sizing up Dominic Nathan just moments before.
She figured that no matter what, Dominic Nathan was Linden Nathan’s brother. It was normal for outsiders like her not to know what Selina Nathan looked like, but surely Dominic himself would recognize his own niece, right?
"What are you talking about?" Mona Nathan rolled her eyes at Zoe Lynch. "My uncle has kept my cousin’s identity top secret. Forget us, even my uncle’s own secretary might not know who she is."
"Is that so..." Zoe Lynch’s face stiffened, and her heart leaped into her throat.
"What, you’re not sure?" Dominic Nathan’s face darkened.
"No... no... I..." Zoe Lynch quickly composed herself, afraid of earning Dominic Nathan’s resentment. She rushed to say, "I’m sure. Cecilia Nathan is definitely not Selina Nathan."
’The arrow was already nocked; there was no turning back. Things had already come to this. If she admitted she wasn’t sure, Dominic Nathan would probably tear her to shreds.’
’She never would have guessed that Dominic Nathan had never met Selina Nathan either.’
Zoe Lynch’s heart pounded wildly.
’All she could do now was pray that Cecilia Nathan wasn’t Selina Nathan.’
’But in all likelihood, Cecilia wasn’t Selina. After all, she’d been pathetically obsessed with Damian Hawthorne for so long. If she really were Selina Nathan, she wouldn’t have had to try so hard to chase after him.’
’She would only have to reveal her identity, and Damian Hawthorne’s mother would surely treat her as a future daughter-in-law. Forget chasing Damian; she could have had anyone she wanted.’
’Yet Cecilia Nathan hadn’t done that, which proved she wasn’t Selina Nathan at all.’
Thinking this, Zoe Lynch felt a wave of reassurance. "Dominic, don’t worry. I can guarantee that Cecilia Nathan is absolutely not Miss Nathan."
Dominic Nathan’s heart, which had been in his throat, finally settled back into his chest. "Since you’re so confident, it must mean you’re certain. Alright, let’s head up. We shouldn’t keep them waiting."
Mona Nathan was curious about the new talent. She grabbed Zoe Lynch’s hand and asked, "Ms. Lynch, is that newcomer my uncle is grooming really handsome? How handsome? Is he as handsome as Miles Sinclair?"
Zoe Lynch stopped in her tracks, her mouth falling slightly open in surprise. "You don’t know?"
"Know what?" Mona Nathan looked completely lost.
Zoe Lynch was just about to say that the person was Miles Sinclair, but before she could speak, she saw Linden Nathan’s assistant hurrying toward her. "Zoe Lynch!"
Seeing Linden Nathan’s assistant, Zoe Lynch was extremely respectful. "What is it? Is President Nathan looking for me?"
"Yes, President Nathan needs to see you urgently. You should all hurry, run if you can." Linden Nathan’s assistant’s tone was grave. "And you two, Dominic, Miss Mona Nathan, please get there at once. President Nathan is furious."
"Alright, thank you." Dominic Nathan had no idea what was happening.
’He had already informed Linden Nathan that he would be late, so logically, Linden wouldn’t be angry about that.’
’So he must be angry about something else.’
The group walked briskly to the conference room. Sure enough, the moment they entered, they could feel the strange atmosphere inside.
Linden Nathan was seated in the middle of the conference table, with a handsome man sitting beside him.
When Mona Nathan saw Miles Sinclair, she cried out in surprise, "Miles Sinclair! Oh my god, what are you doing here?"
Mona Nathan’s infatuated shriek made everyone else hold their breath, bowing their heads even lower.
Just a moment ago, President Nathan had taken a call and suddenly erupted in anger.
He had also added, "That Cecilia Nathan who just left is my biological daughter."
And with that, everyone present knew that Cecilia Nathan was Selina Nathan.
But judging from Linden Nathan’s outburst, it was clear Zoe Lynch hadn’t followed his instructions.
"President Nathan, what’s wrong?" Zoe Lynch strode confidently to stand across the table from Linden Nathan. "I’ve already handled the matter you just assigned me."
"Oh? And what matter did I assign you?" Linden Nathan’s voice betrayed no emotion.
Just then, the branch manager sitting not far from her was frantically blinking at her.
Zoe Lynch frowned, not understanding why the manager was blinking at her.
She had fought her way up in the corporate world for several years. Though she didn’t know why Linden Nathan was angry or why everyone around her had their heads bowed, she knew this wasn’t the time for her to speak.
"Go on, President Lynch. What matter did I assign you?"
But Linden Nathan gave her no chance to evade the question.
Seeing Linden Nathan’s fury, Mona Nathan, despite her infatuation with Miles Sinclair, didn’t dare approach him.
She huddled close to her father, biting her lower lip, not daring to look at Linden Nathan.
’She and her father had arrived late and didn’t know the full story, but she could tell that Linden Nathan was displeased with Zoe Lynch—very displeased.’
Called out by Linden Nathan, Zoe Lynch knew she couldn’t escape, no matter how much she wanted to avoid answering.
"A moment ago, President Nathan instructed me to protect our own people. Mr. Miles Sinclair is one of our own. Cecilia Nathan and Damian Hawthorne are working together, and her actions were meant to frame Mr. Sinclair as a thief." Zoe Lynch lowered her gaze, not daring to meet Linden Nathan’s eyes. "However, as you requested, President Nathan, I have already warned Cecilia Nathan and told her not to frame Mr. Sinclair again."
CRASH! A cup smashed at Zoe Lynch’s feet, shattering on impact.
Shards flew onto her stockinged leg, quickly leaving a cut.
Zoe Lynch grimaced in pain but didn’t cry out, determined to maintain her composure.
Linden Nathan’s rage left her completely bewildered.
’What did I do wrong?’
’Was I not even allowed to speak the truth?’
Zoe Lynch was about to say more when the general manager grabbed her. "I’m begging you, stop talking!"
’Zoe Lynch was someone he had personally promoted, but for some reason, she was being a complete fool today.’
’He used to think it was a good thing that Zoe Lynch wasn’t distracted by romance, that she was a workaholic. He never expected that while she was fine when not in love, the moment she fell for someone, she’d let love completely cloud her judgment.’
"Some ’own people’!" Linden Nathan, his face ashen with rage, roared at Dominic Nathan. "And you! Who do you think our ’own people’ are?"
Dominic Nathan looked innocent and utterly bitter.
’He had just gotten here, how was he supposed to know what had just happened?’
’Own people, outsiders... he had rushed here straight from the airport and knew nothing about anything.’
"Brother, don’t be angry. I... I just arrived. I don’t know anything."
"You don’t know anything, yet you dare to bully a young woman like that? Do you have any idea who she is?" The thought of his own daughter being bullied by this father-daughter pair made Linden Nathan want to strangle the man in front of him.
