Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Disheartened

Seeing the phone in Chloe Sutton’s hand, Sharon Quincy gritted her teeth. She wanted to call the police but didn’t dare.

Just as you’d expect from a famous Korsyth anchor, always ready to record.

Sharon Quincy looked up at Cecilia Nathan, took a deep breath, and said sarcastically, "None of this is even that valuable. I don’t care about giving it to you. You’ll never be able to humiliate me like this."

"My godfather is worried about my future, so he’s planning to give me some shares. Miss Nathan, I’m no longer just someone you sponsor. I’m family now."

Sharon Quincy bit out the word "family" with venom.

Chloe Sutton frowned. Seeing the color drain from her friend’s face, she was about to start cursing Sharon out, but Cecilia Nathan held her back.

"Cecilia, she’s so shameless." Chloe Sutton had detested Sharon Quincy ever since she started trying to stir up trouble.

"When a dog bites you, do you bite it back?" Cecilia Nathan, however, was calm and composed.

’But the thought of Linden Nathan giving Sharon Quincy shares made her heart sink.’

’Sharon Quincy was certainly resourceful, getting her hands on shares in such a short time. It looked like this matter with her needed to be resolved quickly.’

"Sharon Quincy, you’re just Mr. Nathan’s goddaughter. You’re so arrogant, anyone who didn’t know better would think you were his actual daughter." Serena Hughes had been watching from the sidelines, but she couldn’t stand seeing Sharon throw her weight around like this anymore.

’Even she, a daughter of the Sinclair family, was humbling herself to get on Cecilia Nathan’s good side. Yet here was Sharon Quincy, an orphan who relied on their sponsorship, daring to walk all over her benefactor.’

Seeing that even Serena Hughes was siding with Cecilia Nathan, Sharon Quincy knew she couldn’t win this confrontation.

Her belongings had been taken, and with people milling about, everyone was staring at her humiliating predicament.

Sharon Quincy took a deep breath, gritted her teeth, and walked away, eager to leave the scene.

’Besides, Linden Nathan had given her a credit card. She could buy whatever she wanted.’

After Sharon Quincy left, Cecilia Nathan took her best friend’s hand apologetically. "Chloe, I didn’t mean to hide it from you."

Chloe Sutton pouted, a little miffed. "I know. This Selina Nathan identity of yours looks glamorous on the surface, but it’s actually full of pressure and danger. I don’t care who you are—you’ll always be my best friend."

"I’m so envious of your friendship..." Serena Hughes interjected in a soft voice.

Chloe Sutton shot her a disdainful look and pulled Cecilia Nathan away. "Come on, let’s go somewhere else."

Serena Hughes froze as she watched the two of them leave.

’But she had already achieved her goal.’

’As long as Cecilia Nathan no longer hated her or the Sinclair family, that was enough.’

’Of course, she couldn’t expect Cecilia to treat her the way she treated Chloe Sutton.’

’She was only humbling herself and fawning over Cecilia for the sake of her grandmother and the future of the Sinclair family.’

「After parting ways with Chloe Sutton, Cecilia Nathan went straight to the police station.」

With help from Damian Hawthorne and the police, she was quickly able to see Walter Wallace.

The moment he saw Cecilia Nathan, a flicker of stunned admiration crossed Walter Wallace’s eyes.

’He had only ever heard Sharon Quincy talk about Cecilia, but he’d never seen her in person. He never imagined she would be this beautiful.’

Her face was small and delicate, with eyes as clear as grapes and a well-defined, cherry-red mouth. She had striking features, yet she carried herself with a quiet, elegant grace.

"No wonder Sharon Quincy is so jealous of you."

’Anyone would be jealous of looks like that combined with her family background.’

’Some people just seem to be born favorites of fortune, fully loaded with top-tier specs right from the start.’

"You’d be wise to tell the police the truth," Cecilia said. She knew time was short and had none to waste on small talk.

Through the glass partition, Cecilia’s expression was composed, and her voice reached Walter Wallace’s ears, clear and deliberate.

"I’ve already told them everything," Walter Wallace said with a smirk, as if he’d been expecting her. "I did it all."

"I’m in love with Sharon Quincy. I’d do anything for her. If I hadn’t been distracted while driving, my car would have taken you out long ago..." Walter Wallace gave a sinister smile. "It’s a pity she’s so stupid."

"She’s not stupid," Cecilia said, her gaze fixed on Walter Wallace. "Sharon Quincy told us everything."

Walter Wallace’s eyes went cold. "What do you mean?"

"Sharon Quincy told us everything about your deal. She spilled it all after we promised her shares in the Nathan Corporation."

When Cecilia finished, Walter Wallace was completely stunned.

"I don’t know what you’re talking about..."

Walter Wallace appeared calm, but his mind was in turmoil.

’Sharon Quincy said they were in the same boat. How could she have exposed their deal?’

"Finn Hawthorne’s death was a murder. You’re the killer, so of course Sharon Quincy is desperate to cut all ties with you. She came to the Hawthorne estate herself and told us that you were the one who killed Finn Hawthorne."

Cecilia’s words hit Walter Wallace like a thunderclap.

The murder was Walter’s secret, and the basis of his deal with Sharon.

Sharon would cover up the murder for him, and in return, he would take the fall for her.

"You take the fall for Sharon, get the maximum sentence... Walter, oh Walter, who do you think benefits the most from all this?"

’The beneficiary...’

’The biggest beneficiary would be Sharon Quincy.’

’Could what Cecilia said be true?’

’But if Sharon hadn’t told her, how else would Cecilia know he was the killer...?’

’That damned woman... she actually dared to trick him.’

Cecilia didn’t miss a single flicker of emotion on Walter Wallace’s face.

’Just a few words were all it took to make him waver.’

’In truth, she had no proof that Walter Wallace had killed Finn Hawthorne. All she had was a dream—a message from Finn himself.’

’In the dream, Finn had been pushed off a cliff.’

Cecilia had just gotten home when she received a message from Damian Hawthorne: *Walter Wallace confessed to everything.*

Reading the message, Cecilia’s legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the sofa.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Cecilia dragged her heavy legs to the door. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"Miss, President Nathan sent us to escort you..."

It was the same bodyguard who had been with Sharon Quincy last time. Several others stood behind him.

Cecilia’s expression was impassive. "What does he want now?"

"President Nathan said he has something to discuss with you," the bodyguard said, hesitating for a moment. "It’s about the Nathan Corporation shares."

Remembering what Sharon Quincy had said about Linden Nathan planning to give her shares, Cecilia’s face grew cold. "If he wants to give Sharon shares, he can give her all of them. He doesn’t need to ask for my permission."

With that, she SLAMMED the door shut.

Seeing Cecilia’s attitude, the bodyguard reluctantly sent a message to Linden Nathan: *President Nathan, Miss Cecilia said you can give all the shares to Miss Sharon if you want, but to stop asking her about it.*

A moment later, a reply came from Linden Nathan: *Understood.*

Linden Nathan did, in fact, intend to give Sharon Quincy some shares.

Over the past few years, Sharon had often helped him manage minor tasks at the company, and she was capable.

On top of that, since the car crash incident had been a misunderstanding, Linden Nathan felt an even stronger desire to compensate her.

His goddaughter was so dutiful to him, while in contrast, Cecilia, his own flesh and blood, wouldn’t even share a meal with him. She even brought that half-dead Miles Sinclair around just to spite him.

He was gradually growing disheartened.
