Chapter 112: Chapter 112: Tell Me, Is She Selina Nathan

Even if Cecilia Nathan came from a poor background, Frances Bennett knew that people from wealthy families weren’t like Cecilia, who would occasionally cook special dishes for her.

The Hawthorne Family lacked for nothing, but for someone like Cecilia, being so hands-on had become a habit.

Thinking about how well Cecilia had treated her in the past, an unpleasant feeling stirred in Frances Bennett’s heart.

It wasn’t that she had completely disapproved of Cecilia. In fact, after discovering she’d been tricked, she had gradually begun to appreciate Cecilia’s good qualities.

In all her years, this was the first time she had been made such a fool of.

The more Frances Bennett thought about it, the angrier she became. Finally, she turned and stormed off to the hospital.

She was going to ask Sharon Quincy whether the deception had been her own idea or a scheme by the Nathans of Aethelgard.

...

In the private room, Mrs. Grant prepared a small wrap of roast duck for Cecilia.

"I heard you like roast duck. This place is the most famous for it in all of Korsyth. Go on, have a taste."

Cecilia looked at the wrap filled with sauce and roast duck, picked it up, and took a delicate bite.

The sauce and crispy duck skin mingled, while the hawthorn and cucumber cut through the richness. As the flavors burst in her mouth, Cecilia smiled. "The food here really is delicious."

"I’m so glad you like it." Mrs. Grant’s eyes crinkled as she smiled. "Cecilia, I want to ask you something, and I need you to answer me honestly."

Cecilia put down her chopsticks and said seriously, "Please, Mrs. Grant, go ahead."

"Do you have feelings for our Hugo Grant?"

Cecilia froze. Just as she was about to speak, Mrs. Grant added, "You don’t have to answer me right away. I don’t need an answer now. To be perfectly honest, I’m very fond of you, and I hope... you can give our Hugo a chance."

"He’s been single for so many years, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen him this taken with a girl. As his mother, it makes me very happy."

Mrs. Grant didn’t mention that she had almost resigned herself to the idea that her son wasn’t interested in women.

Cecilia pursed her lips and said hesitantly, "Mrs. Grant, I already have..."

"I know. Is it that Miles Sinclair?" Mrs. Grant sighed deeply. "My dear, I don’t know that young man, but I respect your decision. Every mother wants her children to be happy, and I’m no different. I may not be able to promise you anything else, but I can promise that if you join our family, you won’t be mistreated in any way."

"I’m not like Frances Bennett. I don’t care what others think, and I don’t care about family status. All I want is for my son to be happy."

Hearing this, Cecilia’s heart stirred, and she was filled with a profound sense of gratitude.

She had never known her mother and had no idea what a mother’s love felt like.

Mrs. Grant’s words filled her heart with warmth.

’She knew Hugo Grant would be a very suitable husband.’

’But Hugo was back, and she first had to figure out what was really going on with all of this.’

’Before that, she couldn’t agree to anything.’

"Thank you, Mrs. Grant. It’s been a pleasure getting to know you and Hugo Grant."

’Although her pursuit of Damian Hawthorne had led to nothing, at least she’d met many people she’d grown fond of.’

"I have some personal matters I need to handle, so I’m not really thinking about a relationship right now..."

Mrs. Grant nodded in understanding. "I know. Go do what you feel you must. No matter what you decide, Hugo and I will support you."

"Me too!" Aria Miller put an arm around Cecilia’s shoulder. "If you need my help, just say the word. We’ll definitely help you."

Cecilia nodded and said, "Thank you all."

「Korsyth First Hospital.」

Frances Bennett stormed up to Sharon Quincy’s hospital room.

Having finally seen Damian Hawthorne out, Sharon Quincy was still shaken.

Just moments before, Damian Hawthorne had tried to force her to reveal Selina Nathan’s true identity.

If she revealed that Selina Nathan was actually Cecilia, Linden Nathan would abandon her completely.

But if she didn’t, Damian Hawthorne would present the evidence to Linden Nathan himself.

「One hour earlier.」

Inside the VIP ward at Korsyth First Hospital.

"Is Cecilia Nathan actually Selina Nathan?"

Damian Hawthorne’s tone was cold, and it startled Sharon Quincy.

’He knows?’

’Or has he suspected it all along?!’

Sharon Quincy opened her mouth, stammering, "You... Why would you think that?"

Damian Hawthorne’s brown eyes darkened as he asked impatiently, "You just need to tell me, is she or isn’t she."

Sharon Quincy’s lips trembled uncontrollably. After a long moment, she squeezed out two words: "She’s not."

Once the words were out, Sharon Quincy gritted her teeth and added, "She’s not. I’ve only met Selina Nathan once, and she isn’t Cecilia."

"Is that so?" A smirk played on Damian Hawthorne’s lips. "Then why did you target her? And hire a driver to hit her?"

Hearing this, Sharon Quincy panicked. "What do you mean, I hired a driver to hit her? I admit I was jealous of her because of her relationship with you. I might have even wished something would happen to her, but in the end? I was the one who saved her!"

"Whatever the case, I’m the one lying in this hospital bed now." Sharon Quincy clutched her chest, her voice accusatory. "Don’t look at the process, look at the result."

Damian saw she would remain stubborn to the end and knew he wouldn’t be able to get the truth out of her.

In truth, he was only guessing about Cecilia’s identity.

’Deep down, he didn’t believe that Cecilia truly didn’t like him anymore.’

’Cecilia had pursued him for so long, even risking her life for him. How could she give up just like that?’

’If it was because of the baby, he had already checked the hospital’s records and files. The child in Cecilia’s womb was never going to make it to term.’

At that thought, Damian Hawthorne’s heart clenched.

Cecilia had once asked him if he could marry her.

It had been at a bar, the same day Serena Hughes had shown up to confront them.

’If he had said yes back then, would things have turned out differently?’

’At least then, after that... ’Mo’ person showed up, she wouldn’t be so cold to him.’

Seeing Damian Hawthorne’s dark and shifting expression, Sharon Quincy didn’t dare to meet his gaze. She weakly pulled the blanket up over her face.

It was as if by doing so, she could sever all connection with him.

’Damian Hawthorne was handsome and rich, a perfect candidate for marriage. But she would never again dare to covet a man like him. He was simply too terrifying.’

Sharon Quincy was jolted awake by an furious voice.

"You bitch, you have the nerve to sleep!"

Frances Bennett furiously ripped the blanket off her and slapped Sharon Quincy across the face.

SLAP! The sound was crisp and clear. Sharon Quincy clutched her cheek, too stunned to react for a long moment.

When she saw it was Frances Bennett, Sharon Quincy’s pupils dilated, and she shrank back in fear.

Frances Bennett grabbed her by the collar, roaring, "You bitch, who gave you the nerve to lie to me? Do you have any idea how much money and how many connections I used to push you into the socialite circle here in Korsyth? And you dared to lie to me!"

"M-Mrs. Bennett, please, calm down." Sharon Quincy’s face was flushed with indignation. "I didn’t lie to you! I really am Linden Nathan’s daughter! If you don’t believe me, you can ask my father when he gets here. Even though I’m not his biological daughter, I’m still his daughter in name. How is that lying?"

"You said you were Selina Nathan! Selina Nathan! Not some adopted daughter named Sharon Quincy!" Frances Bennett glared at her viciously. "Someone of your status, how could you possibly be worthy of Damian? And you even wanted him to marry into your family? You’re delusional!"
