Arc 2, Chapter 122 — Enter: Yaeger

.

.

There was an unnatural grin on Yaeger’s face, one that stretched from ear to ear.

Can cats even smile?

Such a sight might cause many to wet their pants in presence of such a smiling feline.

"Your human, is it?..."

Fufufufufu~

"I’ll make it simple for your little brain to understand. You have had my powers all this while."

"My powers are all supreme. I guarantee you that no shard is as strong as I am."

Yaeger spoke with prideful arrogance that was hard to mistake. Obvious disdain clouded his face when thinking of something.

Hmph!

"Those humans.. The ones in charge of you, are all FOOLS for putting my fragment in such a weak pile..."

His fragment?

Levon’s eyes glowed while listening to Yaeger. Was the fragment he spoke of, the shard itself?

Yaeger scowled in disgust. "That fragment piece alone is a hundred times more advanced than their so-called highest Pile."

How INSULTING!

To compare him with so many low crafted shard entities was an insult that made his stomach ball in a tight knot.

If Yaeger stood face to face with those from the Order, he must slash their faces with how furious he was.

How dare they mistake his brilliance for trash?

"Interesting..." Levon chuckled darkly. "Are you truly that powerful?... Or is it the power of ego that compels you to be a bragaband?"

"I, a Bragaband? I, a braggard?"

BHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA~

Yaeger’s image hidden behind the darkness, seemed to grow several times larger despite having the same size.

"Puny Human, don’t dare mistake my patience for cowardice... Whatever I say, I mean."

"So, if you had an iota of a brain cell, you would know that almost all my powers are sealed and chained off in this prison."

A cold light flickered through Yaeger’s crescent eyes. "Yes... I’m in chains. Yet despite this, you—puny Human—were still able to develop such a peculiar and keen sense of hearing. I guarantee you that no human will ever develop their sense of hearing and detection, as you do."

"And all that... IS BECAUSE OF ME!"

"So tell me, doesn’t that prove my strength alone?"

(Silence)

Yaeger’s words remained heavy in the air.

At the same time, Yaeger inwardly cursed at his predicaments too. ’Blast these damn chains!’

The chains glowed with a pure aura, one that kept true restraint on his powers. frёeωebɳovel.com

Oh?

With one glimpse, Levon understood the situation clearly.

’It all makes sense. These chains are the reasons why I cant excel in shard training. However, they must be here for a reason.’

Levon’s eyes gleamed with light, his deep thoughts hidden behind his expressionless face.

On the other hand, seeing Levon’s face lowered, Yaeger’s eyes flashed menacingly, a strange flicker of greed and mystery swarming around his pupils.

’What an insult. To be trapped in the body of a human, a weakling for that matter... Do you all truly believe your existence will hold any meaning in the grand design of my life?’

Yaeger did his best to control his suffocating aura that was threatening to leak out.

’I can’t scare away this prey... Only when he undoes all chains, will I become free.’

Heh-heh-heh-heh~

Yaeger’s inner chortle was spine-twisting.

’Human, you were doomed the moment you stood before me. But for now, we do need each other, so let’s see how long our game of cat and mouse will go.’

Almost at the same time, both parties did away with their vicious smirks, raising their heads to lock eyes.

"Puny Human, knowing you have my powers, what are you waiting for? Unleash all chains now if you want us to break free!"

Yaeger’s voice was like the whispers of a devil, seducing its prey to take the fall.

’Yes... Yes... that’s it, human... Unleash me now, so I can tear out of your human body, ripping you into shreds.... If you want to survive, you will do as I say...’

Yaeger’s heart was drumming in merriment, when seeing Levon approach the 12 locks lined at his center, connecting to 12 chains.

Levon obediently placed a hand on the first giant lock. And just when Yaeger thought he would start, Levon paused, slowly raising his head high.

"Now, now..." He ran a finger across the giant padlock. "Why the hell would I do that, for free?"

BOOM!

Yaeger exploded in fury like a wild cat, its aura so deadly that added to the already crumbling surface around them.

"Human, do you not know that if we can’t get out, we will both die here? Look around you, your body is crumbling DOWN."

Fufufufu~

Levon laughed bemused. "I comprehend what’s going on all too well. But unlike you, I revel in chaos... So what if we die? At least we die on my terms, no?"

Levon was unfazed by the imposing pressure Yaeger was throwing his way.

From what it observed, this guy had a reason to want survival, most likely a vengeful one. Perhaps it has something to do with it being trapped in his body.

Whatever the case, it meant in this first game of chess, he, Levon, had the upper hand.

"HUMAN!"

Staring at Levon’s innocent smile, Yaeger wished he could grab this guy and strangle him to death.

This human was so annoying and BOLD.

"You say you would be doing it for free if you unseal me, but wouldn’t keeping your little life intact be the best reward?"

"Not really." Levon only titled his head nonchalantly, the backdrop of rumbling adding to his unfazed state.

Yes, the chains do seal up a majority of Yaeger’s powers. But there were still tiny fragments of power that escaped its grasp, which is why he still developed heightened senses and over supernatural abilities.

Still, he needed to tame this big angry feline, no?

Other shards become obedient to their owners instantly after assimilation. But Yaeger was different.

Levon’s grin stretched out even more, making Yaeger uncomfortable.

"Then Human, what exactly do you want in return?"

Levon slowly caressed a finger on the lock, listening to Yaeger’s anxious words.

Yes, what exactly did he want at this point?

"A true partnership."

"Bhahahahaha~, with you? A human? You must be joking. Why would I do such an idiotic thing?"

Levon was not offended. Rather, he kept his smile radiant, amused by Yaeger’s sentiments.

"It’s funny you should see it that way, since you will be entering one now."

A few seconds later, an explosive cry ripped through the air, as the toad’s pupils dilated at an alarming rate.

What’s going on in its body?

~Shrimp!

A tearing sound bellowed from its sides, and out came a strange human, it could hardly recognize.

The human’s clothes were all torn and scorched from the acid, barely holding up together by the thin pieces of fabric left behind.

The human stood barefoot, the edges of his toes and soles charred and blackened. His shoulders, arms and thoughts showed burnt marks.

Pouff~

A wave of acid shot out of the opening, emptying all contents of the giant toad’s insides to the outside world.

The toad had gone to rest on the shores of a giant lake. Half of its body had been submerged, with the other half floating above the surface.

It, that had prepared to slumber for several days, now had a look of terror plastered on its face.

~CROAK!

It gave out a fierce cry when a wide ripe appeared on its body. And for a moment, sprinkles of acid water began to rain around the area.

"Checkmate." Sultan made a final move on the strange chessboard.

Gaara and Sultan slowly took to their feet, their smiles growing broader by the second in a twisted manner.

"Didn’t I say it? If you want to force a wolf out of a dog, you have to throw it into the wild."

Gaara nodded with relaxed brows. "In the end, it all paid out. So I guess your method worked after all... But–"

Gaara didn’t need to finish his words for Sultan to understand.

"He’s different... Too different."

Fufufufufu~

"Isn’t that what makes him most interesting?"

With fiery gazes, Gaara and Sultan watching Levon approach.

What an eye-candy.

The mysterious surrounding this boy made him the perfect eye-candy for people like them.

When you think you know enough, something about him springs up—Something so devilishly inviting.

Gaara’s eyes flashed, as Levon came to a halt before them.

Gawk-kakakakakakakakak~

He let off his signature laughter.

"Levon Belmont, you’re a riddle wrapped up in an enigma. It seems you found a way to break free of your shackles."

"Yes, seniors." Levon replied in a lazy but courteous manner.

Well, breaking out of his shackles was putting it lightly.

"You may go." Sultan interjected, his face facing Levon as he walked away.

Then he paused, slowly tilting his head sideways. "This will be enough training for now. You will only return after completing Phase 2 of your examinations... And should you even fail to complete this simple Phase 1 stage, then do me a favor, and NEVER RETURN."
