Chapter 96: Chapter 96: War Meeting

I walk to the war room, where I can see seven people waiting for me, including Lord Verqur and my father.

"Sorry, I’m late. Clearing the monster ahead of us is more difficult than we thought."

Lord Verqur raises one of his eyebrows and says.

"Is it that many? Or is the monster even more powerful than the one we fought not too long ago?"

"The second one. A few powerful monsters take us a long time to beat."

That bastard is a monster with a humanoid body that has high resistance to magic. That leaves me quite a bit of a pickle because I bring more mage than a physical fighter. Lucky for me, Jullian and Sonia are strong enough without any magical enchantment because even an enchantment will trigger the enemy’s resistance.

It was an annoying monster to beat. However, I’m lucky I did not need to use my summoning creature. If that happens, that means something is going on with the monster around us.

"What kind of monster is that?"

"It was a humanoid creature with the head of a goat and a wing of a bat. It is two and a half meters tall with the body of a human, but it has the legs of a goat and its tail sprouting fire from the end of it."

A satan. We basically fight Satan from my previous world. Combine it with the fire it released; it was a troublesome monster to fight in the middle of a forest. Not only do I need to support my people, but I also need to make sure the fire does not spread.

"Litor? There is a Litor in this area?"

Or that. Satan in this world is called Litor, a demonic monster that appears because of the monster cannibalizing its kind to grow stronger instead of killing the living being around them or growing older.

The older monsters will naturally get stronger because they absorb the mana in the air and get more mana from the victim they killed in the past.

"Yes. It has high resistance to any magic attack or enchantment. Lucky for us, healing did not trigger his resistance against magic."

"That is true. Lucky for you guys, you are a healer, not a pure mage."

My father nods and says.

"Good job on killing them. How many of them did you manage to kill?"

"We encountered seven of them since we were scouting the area ahead of us for tomorrow’s march."

"How long is your scouting range?"

"Around ten kilometers. We can do that again while we march tomorrow."

I can see my father nod in agreement.

Because of how hard it is to fight against monsters with this many people, Lord Verqur and my father decided to ask my unit and another one from the North to make sure not too many monsters attack us while we march.

"Good. Keep up the good work. However, make sure not to work too hard because we need you in the next battle in case the monster ambushes us."

"Yes, Father!"

I nod in understanding.

"Good. Take a seat. We will start the meeting for the next attack."

I nod and take a seat next to my father.

"With all of us here, Let’s start. Look at this."

My father opens up a large map on the table where we can all see it.

"Bakuran City is a massive city where there are two walls protecting it from enemy invasion. My Great-Grandfather once managed to pierce through the first wall but stopped because of the second wall. The reason? The second wall is self-sufficient for a long time. It has massive farmland owned by the Lord and worked to provide food for the soldiers and the rest of the people hiding behind the second wall. We can still starve them to death, but this is their city, and they know the secret passage that leads them outside the second wall to disturb us by burning our supply at night or poisoning the water."

"Then do you have a suggestion of how we beat this city? We have a supply that can feed us for almost a year, but we cannot stay here to continue to siege the city for years even when there will not be much reinforcement because of their situation in the South."

Right. The Gokuya Kingdom decided to go to war with us even when they were still going to war with the Southern Kingdom. I don’t know why they want to have a war on two fronts, but here we are. I think the king of the Gokuya Kingdom is a little bit drunk with power from his status, and he thinks that he can win this war easily even though they are struggling to fight against the Southern Kingdoms that they are currently at war with.

"We hit hard and fast. That is the reason why I tell you to ask the king to send a reinforcement of mages and healers. We need to destroy their wall with magic."

"That will be hard. They will have some kind of magic that protects their wall against magical attacks. Any frontier city will have that kind of magic inside or outside its wall."

"That is why we need many mages for this battle, and we have a trump card in this war."

My father looks at me, and I understand what he wants.

"Gwyndolin? As much as I want him to destroy the wall, we need his mana to heal the soldiers. This is different from the previous fight. We are attacking, not defending."

"I know, Lord Verqur. That is why I ask you to rent a healer. They will be the ones healing our soldiers while Gwyndolin can focus on the offensive. We need an overwhelming offensive to take over this city. They will win the war of attrition as they have the home ground. We also need to think about the monsters. We need to win this fight fast and end it in a single day if we can."

That is a hard task to do. I think I can do it with the help of my summon, but we also need to watch out for their mages and other talent users. The last one made me lose my left arm, and I don’t want to lose another one, thank you very much.

"I don’t think I can do that, Father. As much as I want to end this war, we cannot go around recklessly and get defeated because of a rushed decision. I think you should take a deep breath and think clearly, Father."

I can see my father widen his eyes and nod. He takes a deep breath and says.

"I’m sorry. It looks like my need to end this war as fast as possible clouds my judgment. You are right. We cannot rush this. However, my point still stands. We cannot stay here longer than necessary because as much as I hope they cannot send reinforcement, I’m afraid they will split their force in the South or sacrifice one of two cities to defeat us while we are besieging Bakuran City. A desperate enemy is the most dangerous, after all."

That I can agree with, and by the look of it, the people in this room also agree with my father’s assessment.

"You are right. We cannot fight a long siege, but a month or two should not be a problem. We can build a small fortress to protect our supply and armory while we are besieging Bakuran City."

My father nodded and let Lord Verqur continue.

"While we cannot blast that wall in one go, we can do it slowly. Weaken them in one day and try to destroy them the next. We will destroy their wall one by one. We need speed, but we did not need to sacrifice our safety for it."

Lord Verqur looks at me and says.

"Heir Gwyndolin, I need you to focus on healing. There will be even more casualties in this battle because, once again, we are the ones attacking. Let the rest of the mage be the ones trying to damage the wall."

I nod and say.

"I can do that."

He nods and looks back at my father.

"Lord Cunningham, I have a plan that can work when we get near the wall or the gate. However, to ensure this plan is working, I need to borrow Jullian, the Lightning Warrior."

Ah, right. Jullian gets himself a new title. Like me, who has three or more titles like Life Mage, Healer of Life, Defender of Luzia Kingdom, etc., Jullian gets himself a title from the soldiers in this campaign. He is called Lightning Warrior, and Sonia also gets a title called Princess of Healing because of her healing capabilities.

"Ask my son. He is his right-hand man and personal guard."

Lord Verqur looked at me, waiting for an answer.

"Can you tell us the plan first?"

"Of course"

The meeting lasts for three hours before we are done and go to sleep. We will march again tomorrow and arrive at Barukan City in a couple of weeks.
