I look at the morning sky and release a sigh. I couldn’t sleep last night and decided to train with my sword. Because of this, I feel like a paranoid person, but my instinct has never been wrong before, and I will still stand with it.

I already summon Okami and Fenrir as moral support for my men and as a distractor if something is going on in this fortress while I cast a spell. I really hope nothing happened, and it was only a false alarm.

"Gwyn"

I turn around and see Freyja walk toward me with her training outfit. My father and Lord Verqur decided to rest in this place a day or two before continuing our march South, and that is why she and the other people did not wear their armor or carry any weapons.

"Freyja. Good morning."

"Heh. Good morning to you too. I will ask if you slept well, but your right-hand man tells me you did not sleep."

"Did Jullian send you here?"

"He did not ask me directly, but he implied it heavily. You should listen to your subordinate more, you know? They are worried about you; when you worry about something, they will also worry about what is inside your mind. That is the burden of a leader. You need to make an example for your people. I think about it for a few seconds and nod my head.

"Yeah. You are right. I should apologize to Sonia, Jullian, and Jonathan."

"Good. However, you should do that later this afternoon because they are asleep now. I already ask them to sleep while I talk to you."

"Thank you, Freyja."

"Bah. Think nothing of it. I’m glad you are listening to my advice more than anything because I have experience with people who did not listen to me and thought that they knew better than me about this thing."

"Then they are stupid for not listening. You are a veteran in this kind of thing."

"Bwahahaha! Thank you, Gwyn. However, please don’t call me a veteran. It makes me feel old."

Right. Veterans in this world are different from the ones in my previous world. Veteran, especially in the military, is usually a title of someone who has experience in military activity and retires from it regardless of age. However, in this world, it was the title of someone who retired from the military because of old age.

That means veterans are equally old.

"I’m sorry, Freyja."

"Hah! Don’t worry about it. I’m almost forty and know I will be a veteran sooner or later."

I look at her in shock. I look at her from top to bottom and say.

"You are almost in your forties?!"

"Bwahahahaha! How old do you think I am?"

"I thought you were in your early thirties at the oldest and mid-twenties at the youngest."

"Oh my. I’m flattered by your compliment. Sadly, I’m already in my late thirties, you know? I’m thirty-eight this year."

"That is really surprising. You look young for your age, Freyja."

She slaps my back and says.

"Thank you."

She then sits next to me and says.

"Anyway, do you want to have a spar with me? Or do you want to go and have some sleep?"

I don’t really need sleep. I have been experimenting on my body to test how long I can go without sleeping. I can still function even when I stay awake for four days, but when I get into the fifth day, my body starts to get tired easily, and when I reach the seventh day, the tiredness doubles.

I decided to sleep after the seventh day and stop the experiment.

So, I can do hard work even if I’m not asleep for a day or two.

However, before we can work, I stop and look up because I feel a magic spike from the west of the fortress.

I look down and see Freyja already jump down.

"Do you feel that?!"

I shout at Freyja, who frowns at my question.

"Feel what?!"

"Magic spike!"

Before she can say something, I can see a massive Void Crack appear a few hundred meters away from the fortress. I can see Freyja already getting inside the fortress to alarm the others when she sees the massive Void Crack.

How? How can a Void Crack this big quickly appear?! Usually, Void Cracks take time to appear and slowly grow in size.

I widen my eyes when I see monsters start to get out of the portal. I know it. Something is not right. I quickly ran to the bell on the tower and started to ring it. After ringing the emergency bell, I take out my weapons, Staff and Star Globe, and then start to cast my spell.

"[Guardians of Nature]!"

Four magic circles appear above me, and a few seconds later, the four guardians of the Cardinal Directions appear. I smile a little when I see the Azure Dragon also appear and as healthy as usual.

My smile gets bigger when the Azure Dragon gets close to me, and I rub its head with my hand. I can hear rumbling coming from its mouth.

"It is good to see you as healthy as this, my friend. Thank you for your help. If not for you, I would be dead by now."

I smile a little when I see it nodding. I look at the rest of my summons and tell them to get close to me. I pat their head one by one and say.

"I’m sorry to call you this soon, my friend. However, we have a problem. Look at that."

The four of them look at the flying monster coming out of the Void Crack.

"Can you guys take care of them for a moment? Go all out and make sure to hold them back for a few minutes for us to get ready."

Seeing them nod, my smile gets bigger, and I say.

"Then go. I will support you from here."

After saying that, I quickly cast two spells.

"[Four Elemental Boost]! [Four Season Blessing]!"

I can see the Four Auspicious Beasts get bigger and stronger after the buff spell takes effect. I can see the Vermillion Beast screech and release a wave of intense fire to burn the monster coming at it.

I shake my head and quickly get down the tower to try and hold the monster coming from the land. I fly out of the fortress and land a couple of dozen away from the fortress. I touch the ground and use a good amount of mana to cast my next spell.

"[Infinite Swamp]"

After saying that, the ground in front of me changed into a swamp. The swamp is three hundred meters in length and width.

[Infinite Swamp] is the largest AOE spell in my spell list. This debuff spell reduces the enemies’ movement and attack speed by half. Not only that, a low-level monster and player will quickly sink into the mud and die from the lack of oxygen. It changes the environment into a [Swamp] and gives a buff to any summon who lives in the Swamp.

I cannot summon swamp creatures because my [Druid] and [Astrologian] had no spell that could summon them. However, lucky for me, my guild member and I are hoarders, and we have quite a lot of scrolls to summon swamp creatures.

I rip two scrolls and summon fifty creatures. These fish-looking creatures are called [Mud Piranha], and they are low-level creatures that deal quite a bit of damage to the enemy. However, I’m not done.

I rip another scroll, and this time, two massive dinosaurs looking creatures appear in front of me. They are called Yarroth, a creature that looks like a T-Rex but with a body full of armor that is as tough as a boulder and covered in mud that adds more armor to them. However, what makes them valuable is that they can eat any mud and spit them out as sticky mud that reduces the enemy’s movement even more.

With all the preparation done, I get back to the wall, where I see Jullian, Sonia, and Jonathan waiting for me.
