Chapter 81: Chapter 81: War Meeting (3)

|Catharina von Xenotra - Heiress of Baron Xenotra|

Hmmm, I already know about this, but hearing it directly from Gwyndolin is another matter altogether.

In the game, you need to destroy a certain unit in the war to make the monster unit in the enemy’s hand rebel. However, that doesn’t mean the monster unit will join the player’s army. Rather, the monster will create a third faction that will attack anyone on the battlefield.

However, in the game, the unit controlling the monster will be on the very back of the enemy formation, and the player needs to lure quite a large amount of units before they can go and try to defeat that unit.

That is why the cavalry unit is very important in the game. They can lure the enemy out by running around the map and ensuring they cannot hit you in close combat. If the unit chasing after the player is the archer unit, the player needs to ensure their cavalry unit has enough armor to tank all the damage.

However, when the one controlling the monster is a mage unit, the cavalry must reach them before they can quickly prepare a spell. The mage unit is the snack for the cavalry unit. They are easy to kill because of their low armor and HP, but players must watch out if the mage unit already prepared a spell because one attack can obliterate a unit.

I shake my head and snap from my thoughts. I look at Gwyndolin and say.

"I see. That is rather worrying. How can we take care of that problem?"

Gwyndolin looks at me and says.

"We kill whoever has that device and destroy the said device. With it destroyed, the control will be gone, and the monster will attack them."

One of the lords behind me walks forward and says,

"But what about the people who do the job? They will be in the middle of enemy territory and combine it with a monster near them; it will be a dangerous job."

Gwyndolin smiles, and I shudder a little. It was not his usual smile. His usual smile is dangerous and scary, but now... it is ten times scarier. I think it is the aura he releases into the air. It makes him look like a massive dragon looking at a snack in front of him.

"You don’t need to worry, my lord. My team and I will be the ones taking care of them. Once we know who is the one controlling them, we will take care of it."

"What about it was the enemy commander who is the one holding the device?"

"Then we will fight our way through their formation and reach their commander."

The way he says that it makes him sound confident in his team and his power. If I don’t play the game, I will look at him as if he is an arrogant young master who tries to take all the glory for himself.

I look to the side and see the younger people have that kind of thinking by the sneer they release. Oh, you sweet summer child. Did you guys not read the newspaper? It was full of bullshit propaganda, but I feel the fight is mostly, if not a hundred percent, true.

It is because of Gwyndolin and his unit that the previous have that result. I think the Cunningham family would lose their lord if not for Gwyndolin and his unit.

"Anyway, My unit and I will be the ones dealing with the one controlling all the monsters. What I want to ask is for a group of scouts to search for the monster-summoning device. I prefer not letting them summon the monster, but if we come to that, my unit and I will make sure to take care of it."

The older lords nod, and the younger lords decide to stay silent as they still remember Lord Verqur’s threat if they disrespect the people in this room. I nod and say.

"Very well. I will make sure to talk more about the scout later. For now, we want to know the area and if there is a road we can take other than the one we know."

~Three hours~

I release a content sigh while I soak my entire body inside the hot spring. I don’t know how Shadowfall City has a hot spring, but I’m glad it does. For the past three hours, I’ve been nothing but a doll who can only sit and listen to the Old Generals talking to each other about the strategy they want to use.

Ultimately, we decide to use a straightforward tactic by using the main road because clearing the forest out of the monster will take longer than using the main road. Longer time because of the need to fight the monster and also because they need to use a long road to the first fortress of the Gokuya Kingdom.

In the game, we also need to capture this fortress as well in the main quest. In the lore, the army uses this fortress as a supply point and also a defense point against the Gokuya Kingdom while the player and their armies go and attack the Luzia Kingdom, where the last boss is waiting for them.

Also, I’m glad that Gwyndolin is not rebelling because I already see what kind of firepower he has in his pocket. The Northern Lords and I see what kind of unit Gwyndolin commands. Jullian is the captain of the flying unit. Sonia is the captain of the Mage and Healer unit. Lastly, Jonathan is the captain of the Long Range and support unit.

Jullian and his lightning talent make him a lethal ambush character. Combining it with the equipment they are wearing, he and his unit become a nightmare for any backline armies.

Sonia is a homunculus that can learn any type of magic. She did not need any talent to be a powerful person. By the look of her training, she is a mistress of magic and a certified healer. She is a solid and even powerful backline unit.

Jonathan is powerful with all the resources he gets from Gwyndolin. When we arrive at their training ground, I can see him training with his talent. Jonathan’s talent is called [Puppet Master], the more powerful version of my [Puppetry].

It let him control an inanimate object, up to a thousand of them. This talent is even more powerful than [Necromancer], which lets the player raise the dead. Why? Because this talent let him control corpses. It will not be as powerful, but if it was a fresh dead, the one he controlled could still use their talent for a moment.

This is the reason why many Speedrunners need Jonathan on their team. He is their crowd-control NPC. His ability to control a large number of corpses or objects to distract one enemy is important in any Speedrunners playthrough.

I snap from my thoughts when the door to the private hot spring opens up. I prepare to cast a spell in case it is a creep, but I release a sigh of relief when I see Lady Cunningham and her daughter are the ones getting inside.

"Lady Cunningham. Young mistress Rachel."

The lady in front of me gives me a kind smile.

"Please call me Cecilia, dear."

"Me too! Call me Rachel!"

I smile at them and say.

"Then call me Catharina, or Cathy, Cecilia. Rachel."

"Of course!"

"En! It is nice to meet you again, Rachel!"

I see them clean their body first before getting inside the hot spring. I can hear Cecilia release a sigh, and Rachel puts her foot slowly, testing the water. Seeing it is fine, she gets inside the hot spring.

"How is our city, Cathy?"

"Hmmm? Shadowfall is a great city, Cecilia. The streets are clean, the people are happy, and people do not judge other races and live together without a problem."

She looks at me curiously and says,

"Does the other city hate the other race?"

"Hate is a strong word. Some of them openly hate the other race, but mostly the people in the other city think the other race has a lower rank than them. You must know that some nobles look down on the commoner, right?"

She nods and says.

"Yes. Even here, some nobles think that they do not need commoners. Sadly, that is wrong thinking. There will be no nobility without the commoner."

I smile a little at her words. Now I understand why the Gwyndolin in this world is more kind than the one in the game. In the game, he lost his parents just before the civil war, and I guess that was the trigger of his fall into madness.

It must be his talent that let him prevent the death of his parents and make him stay the way he is.

"Hmmm? What is it, Cathy? Why are you smiling?"

I look at her and say.

"I guess I now know where Gwyn’s kindness comes from."

I can see her smile kindly, but it becomes mischievous a second later. I have a bad feeling about this.

"Speaking of Gwyn. What do you think of my son?"

I knew it!
