Chapter 224: Chapter 224: You Shall Know Fear

The first light of dawn barely crested the horizon when the war horns blared across the battlefield. The siege of Namok City had begun.

Marquis Gerrald Mathias stood upon a makeshift wooden tower, his piercing gaze locked onto the distant walls of the city. The banners of Cunningham County fluttered in the cold wind, their archers standing in tight formations upon the walls, bows at the ready.

"Begin the bombardment!" Gerrald ordered, his voice cutting through the morning air like a blade.

A moment later, the first barrage of trebuchet stones and flaming projectiles soared through the sky, crashing into the city’s defenses with thunderous impact. The unenchanted towers shook under the assault, dust, and debris cascading down the stonework. Soldiers within the walls braced themselves, some thrown off balance by the sheer force of the attacks.

From on top of the walls, Gwyndolyn watched with steely resolve. "They wasted no time," he murmured, his eyes locked on the siege engines rolling forward, their operators working furiously to reload.

"Jullian!" Gwyn called, his trusted commander standing beside him.

"Yes, my lord?"

"Have your men fire at will. Aim for the siege engine first, slow their advance. We must hold until they summon their main weapon."

Jullian nodded and relayed the orders. A moment later, a volley of arrows darkened the sky, striking down enemy siege engines and soldiers alike. Screams of pain and chaos erupted from Gerrald’s ranks as their front lines wavered under the sudden counterattack.

Gwyn turned to Hildegard and Silvanna, who stood ready near the spellcasters. "Prepare the runic defenses. We cannot let them breach the gate and the wall that easily."

Silvanna raised her staff, runes glowing faintly as she and the other mages began weaving defensive enchantments over the weakened towers and gate. The others also follow her example and make sure their wall, towers, and gates do not fall.

Gwyn wants to join the fight, but he knows he needs to save his mana for the upcoming fight against the monsters that will soon appear.

Gerrald, unshaken by the initial setback, raised his hand. "Release the mercenaries!"

His first path of the plan will start now.

Hundreds of mercenaries march forward to help the first wave of soldiers who hold the siege engine. They are marching behind the Siege Towers. When the towers manage to reach the wall, it opens up, and the mercenaries rush toward the tower to enter the enemy’s wall.

Jullian roars and stands in front of one of the towers alone, fighting all the mercenaries at once. He holds his ground with the armor and weapon Gwyn gave to him. His men attack the other towers to ensure they cannot take over the wall or disturb the archer attacking the marching infantry.

Gerrald smiles at the battlefield and orders the secret unit to prepare their summoning ritual. They have been sacrificing hundreds of humans to power up the crystal to create a portal straight to the Monster World.

When he thought that Gwyn and his army were busy with the mercenaries he sent, he gave a signal toward his secret unit and watched as a massive portal appeared in the middle of the battlefield.

Monsters of all kinds of sizes, powers, and shapes claw their way out of the portal, hungry for blood and destruction.

Gwyn looks at the distance and flies above the portal. He tears apart the magic scroll in his hand, and a second later, a barrier appears around the portal. The barrier traps him and all the monsters inside the barrier.

"No monsters shall escape! You are now fighting against me! The Strongest Astrologian and Druid!"

Hovering in the air, Gwyn points his staff at the monsters underneath him, and magic circles appear around him.

"Destroy!"

A hail of twinkling stars came out of the magic circles and bombarded the horde of monsters coming out of the portal. However, his eyes glint when he catches a wyvern coming out of the portal, flying toward him, and snapping his finger to teleport away to the ground.

He raises his magic staff into the air and says.

"Let’s get this started! [Gaia’s Blessing: Triple Summoning]! [Star Guidance: Strengthen Summons]! [Northern Star Protection]! [Forest’s Might]! [Seven Colored Star]!"

He looks at the charging monsters and slams the butt of his magic staff into the ground.

"Come to me! [Guardian of the World]!"

Three massive magic circles appear on the ground, and a second later, three massive golems appear from the magic circles. They are twenty meters tall and made entirely of stones. However, it is magically enchanted to the point it is even more durable than diamond.

"Attack!"

Gerrald looks at the giant golems in shock. At first, he is in shock when he sees the barrier that traps his trump cards, but his shock turns into happiness when he sees Gwyndolin trap himself inside the barrier.

He thought Gwyn was sacrificing himself for his people, but his happiness was cut short when he saw the golems appear. He frowns and roars.

"Attack the city! We will kill all the people he holds dear! We shall–"

Before he can continue his speech, a war horn is blown not too far away from their camp. Looking around in panic, his eyes widening when he sees hundreds of combatants charging toward their camp.

They are caught off guard and cannot defend the wall and prevent Jonathan and his group from entering the camp. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Jonathan uses his dual daggers to butcher his way through the ranks of Gerrald’s army. He moves like a dancer of death that reaps souls each time he moves. He might not be as strong and durable as Jullian, but he is faster. Not only that, but his dagger technique is very high. There is a reason why Jonathan and Jullian are rivals.

The two of them can go toe-to-toe without a problem, and Jullian is the strongest fighter, other than Gwyndolin, in Cunningham County.

"Kill him! Kill him!"

Gerrald shouts in panic as he watches Jonathan running toward him with a murderous expression. His guards charge at Jonathan, intending to kill him. However, before they can even reach him, Jonathan rips a scroll and says.

"Get out of the way."

Shadow underneath him flies toward the incoming enemies, pierces through their armor, and stabs their brains, killing them instantly.

Jonathan prepares for another wave of enemies coming his way. He stabs the first one in the neck and jumps to the left when the second soldier thrusts his spear at him. He throws his dagger and watches it hit the head of the soldier through the eye hole of the helmet.

I dash forward, pull the dagger from the corpse, and parry another attack from the soldier in front of him before stabbing the gap in the joint of the armor. He ignored the scream of pain and stabbed the head of the soldier from the eye hole with his other daggers.

He looks around, searching for Gerrald, and snarls when he sees him already on his horse, ready to run away. Jonathan pushes man through his body and dashes forward with a new strength. In seconds, he appears next to Gerrald and tackles the marquis to the ground.

The Marquis looks at him with a manic expression and says.

"Let me live, and I shall close the portal! Your lord will die in there! He cannot beat the monsters! Release me, and I shall close it!"

Instead of saying anything, he stabs the Marquis in the neck and watches him die. Jonathan sneers and says.

"Our lord is stronger than any of those monsters."
