Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Journey to Oasis

I look at the people fighting in front of me with a thoughtful expression.

I can see the captain release a grappling hook wrapped around the monster’s neck and stab it in the sand. However, instead of easily coming off, the device that stabbed on the ground did not move and managed to hold the three-meter tall monster from getting away.

I can see them using the grappling hook to ensure the monster did not escape. I can see three more people fire their grappling hooks and plant the device in their hands to the ground, locking the monster’s movement.

While in the dungeon, I did not see any of this because Quentyn and Jul-Tan did not need to use them, for I’m enough to make the enemy’s movement slow down or even stop completely.

"Ohhh~ Their teamwork is fantastic."

I can hear Jullian praising their teamwork, and I agree with him. They are moving as one, and they also know when to attack without the captain needing to give an order. It looks like they have been fighting together for years to get this kind of teamwork.

"Take this!"

Oh!

I can see the captain jump high and thrust his spear at the eye of the monster. He keeps pushing his spear deeper into the monster’s skull.

After releasing one last cry, the monster falls to the ground, dead. After they kill the last monster, I leave the Howdah and store the corpse inside my pocket dimension.

"Thank you for storing the monster’s corpse for us, my lord."

"Don’t worry about it, captain. It is not something big that you need to thank me for."

This is the third time a group of monsters has ambushed us, and by now, the captain and his group already know that I can store the corpse inside my pocket dimension.

"I wonder how you guys carry the corpse when you escort the other."

"Ah, the king did not use this route, and we did not escort the merchant. However, the adventurer usually butchers the monster on the spot and only takes the most valuable one. They did not bring the cheaper monster. After taking the most expensive parts, they will burn the rest of the corpses."

I nod in understanding. That makes sense. You did not need to harvest all of the corpses, after all. Not only will they be slowed down, but also they need space for their new goods. I have a feeling the camels have a weight limit of how much they can carry.

"Anyway, should we spend the night here? You and your group look exhausted, Captain."

"If you want, my lord. The sun is not yet set. If you want, we can walk for a couple more hours."

"Nah. Go and build the tent. I think it is time for you to rest."

"Thank you, my lord."

I nod and see the captain start to give orders to the servant who comes with us to put the tent up. I blink a little when I see the magician we bring start to harden the sand first before the servant builds the tent.

"Why do they need to harden the sand?"

"Because it is sand, my lord. We are in the middle of a dune, so we cannot find a hard enough place to camp. Because of that, the magician needs to harden the sand to make a stable foundation for the camp."

"How long will the magic last?"

"It usually takes the magician two casts per night. They will do it before they go to sleep."

So, around four to five hours, huh? Interesting magic. It looks like the magicians turn the sand into stone for a solid foundation. I snap from my thoughts when I feel a spike of mana in the air and see the magician stabbing a pillar into the sand.

"Is that the barrier the king mentioned?"

The captain looks at the pillar and says.

"Yes. That is the barrier that will protect us from the sandstorms that may appear when we sleep."

"Hmmm, does it have a barrier that can protect us from the monsters?"

"Sadly, no. We still need to watch for the monster in the night."

I nod and say.

"Then let me cast another set of barriers that ensure the monster cannot get inside the barrier and not notice us."

"Are you sure? It can disturb the barrier that blocks the sandstorm."

"I don’t think so. I will create a dome on top of the sandstorm barrier, not inside it."

"That will take a lot of mana, right? Are you sure you can do it? That pillar alone takes two days’ worth of mana from the magician in the palace."

"Trust me. If the barrier the pillar creates gets destroyed, our group will be the ones watching in the night."

The captain looks at me for a few seconds before nodding his head.

"Very well. I will inform the magician."

"Thank you."

While waiting for the servant and the magician to be done with the camp, I decided to fly high and see if there was something interesting. I frown a little when I see nothing but sand. I fly a little bit higher, and it is still the same. There is nothing but sand.

As expected of the biggest desert in the entire continent, there is nothing but sand in this place.

I decide to fly a little bit higher and take out a scroll. This scroll contains a spell called [Eagle’s Eye] that lets me see a very long distance away in great detail. This spell is usually used by any rogue classes where they can use their concealment skill alongside this spell and fly spell.

I rip the scroll, and my eyes shine a little. I blink for a second and look around. I look at the direction of our caravan going and notice a small patch of forest in the middle of the desert. Oh? Is that the Oasis the king talking about? Interesting.

I stay in the air for a minute, so the spell disappears and slowly lands on the ground.

"Do you find anything interesting, dear?"

I look at Silva and say.

"Just sand. I can see our first stop in the distance from here."

"Really? How much longer? As much as it is impressive the first few hours, this place is not for me."

I chuckle a little at her complaining and say.

"I think we will arrive tomorrow. Five to six more hours of walking. Depending on the situation on our journey. If there are a lot of ambushes, it will take a little longer."

"Thank god!"

I chuckle a little and say.

"Just hold it right there. We will arrive at our first destination tomorrow."

"Fine. Can I visit your pocket dimension? I want to train, and I don’t think I can train while the sun is this hot." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

"Sure. However, I will open the portal when we are alone in the tent. We don’t want them to know our little secret."

"Of course. Thank you."

Silva kisses me on the cheek and joins Hilda and Sonia in reading some books about animals and plants of this continent.

I smile a little and walk toward the magicians, who are done with the preparation by the look of it. As I walk to them, I can feel mana spread around us, creating a dome made of invisible mana. Oh, they are casting the barrier, huh? Interesting.

When I arrive in front of them, the magician looks at me and says,

"Ah, my lord. The captain said you want to create more barriers to protect us from monsters. Is this true?"

"Yes. I will make the barrier now because you are done casting the barrier for the sandstorm."

"Can I see the process?"

"I don’t mind. However, it is nothing fancy, you know?"

"I don’t care. Magic is magic, and I love magic."

"Fair enough."

I take out a scroll from my inventory and put it on the ground.

"What is that? What kind of scroll is that? I can feel mana from it. The mana inside the scroll creates a complex shape that is stable enough not to explode. What is it?"

"Well, this is a magic scroll. It contains a spell, the magic circle kind, and can be activated by ripping it apart."

The magician nods and lets me do my business. I touch the sand and rip the scroll. This scroll is a basic Guild Barrier Spell that players can make or buy from the NPC. It will prevent any enemy under level 65 from entering completely and block a few attacks from level 66 and above.

It sounds great, right? I can use this in battle. Wrong. I can only use it when I’m not in battle, and I need my guild as an anchor for this barrier, just like the teleportation spell.

When the barrier is done, I get up and nod. I turn around and see the magician look at me as if I’m a piece of meat before he grabs my shoulder.

Ah, here we go again.
