Chapter 69: Chapter 69: I Won’t Let You Go

"Xiao Yao, are you sure you didn’t make a mistake? I don’t smell Jin Ling’s scent."

"I’m not mistaken, Host. The safe-tracking system shows his location is in this area. You should keep looking."

Qiao Xixi slid down from Sunxiao, worrying, "Do you think they ran into some kind of danger?"

"Host, I’m not detecting any danger to the male, Jin Ling."

Since the location was correct and Jin Ling was safe for now, they had no choice but to keep searching.

Sunxiao’s massive snake head rose high into the air.

When a mountain breeze blew past, his slitted pupils suddenly narrowed.

He immediately rushed back to Qiao Xixi’s side, coiling his tail around her protectively.

Qiao Xixi hugged him to steady herself.

"What’s wrong?"

"A cold snap is coming."

Cold snap.

After all the chaos in Demon Beast City, Qiao Xixi had almost forgotten about it.

Her whole reason for coming to the Black Stone Tribe in the first place was to safely get through the cold snap.

In the silence, a white mist carrying a biting chill swept toward them.

Qiao Xixi instantly felt the surrounding temperature drop significantly.

She shivered and hugged her shoulders.

Sunxiao felt her tremble and wrapped her even more tightly.

"Cold?"

"Yeah, a little. I still have some beast-hide clothes in my space. Put me down for a second so I can get them out and put them on."

’Space?’

A flicker of confusion crossed Sunxiao’s eyes. After gently setting Qiao Xixi down, he watched as she pulled two sets of beast-hide clothes out of thin air.

After putting hers on, Qiao Xixi had Sunxiao shift back into his human form to wear the other set.

"Let’s search the area. Qiao Lie and the others shouldn’t be far."

"Mm."

Sunxiao and Qiao Xixi circled the forest but still couldn’t find any trace of Jin Ling and the others’ scents.

’Strange. They’re clearly around here, so why can’t I find them?’

Just as she was wondering, she felt a slight stirring beneath her feet.

She backed away in surprise and looked down to see a mound of dirt swelling up from the ground where she had been standing.

Suddenly, a small, round head broke through the soil.

When Qiao Xixi got a clear look at the little face, her eyes widened in astonishment.

"Qiao Ang?"

Qiao Ang’s big, light-brown eyes darted around. When he saw Qiao Xixi, the corners of his mouth lifted into a happy grin.

"Mother! It’s Mother!"

He whimpered and tried to struggle out of the dirt, but in his eagerness, all his squirming only managed to make his little round head bob with effort.

When Sunxiao saw Qiao Ang, his expression didn’t change much. He simply walked over and plucked him out of the ground.

"Hey, thanks... huh? Who are you?"

Qiao Ang stared with wide eyes, curiously sizing up Sunxiao before looking back at Qiao Xixi.

Qiao Xixi stepped forward and picked him up. "This is Qiao Lie’s father, Sunxiao."

Qiao Ang’s eyes flew open as he stared at Sunxiao in disbelief.

"Qiao Lie’s... father... I thought... he was lying to me."

"What?"

Before Qiao Xixi could ask, another mound swelled up from the ground.

Qiao Qiao’s little head broke through the soil.

"Brother, come help me!"

The moment the words left Qiao Qiao’s mouth, Sunxiao plucked her from the dirt.

Qiao Qiao looked curiously at Sunxiao, her big, sky-blue eyes blinking in confusion.

"You must be Qiao Lie’s father."

Sunxiao raised an eyebrow and set her on the ground.

"Yes."

Qiao Qiao nodded to herself. "You two look exactly alike."

"Qiaoqiao."

Qiao Qiao turned, saw Qiao Xixi, and froze for a moment. Her big eyes instantly filled with tears, her little mouth trembled, and she threw herself into Qiao Xixi’s arms.

"Mother, WAAAH, Qiaoqiao missed you so much."

Qiao Xixi hugged her two cubs and planted firm kisses on both their cheeks.

"Mother missed you too. Why were you underground? Have you seen Jin Ling and Qiao Lie?"

Qiao Qiao hugged Qiao Xixi’s neck and said in a childish voice, "We saw them! They’re right..."

Before Qiao Qiao could finish, a large mound bulged from the ground, and Jin Ling burst out, holding Qiao Lie.

The moment Qiao Xixi saw Jin Ling, she rushed into his arms, still holding the cubs.

"Jin Ling, I’ve finally found you."

Sunxiao stood to the side, his expression darkening as he watched Qiao Xixi’s unconcealed affection and reliance on Jin Ling.

Jin Ling hadn’t expected to see Qiao Xixi here. He pulled her into his embrace and kissed her cheek.

"Xixi, it’s so good to see you’re all right."

Qiao Xixi nodded. "I’m fine. Are you guys okay?"

Qiao Lie peeked out from behind Jin Ling.

"Mother, I’m okay."

After speaking, he saw Sunxiao standing nearby, quickly scrambled down from Jin Ling, and threw himself into Sunxiao’s arms.

Sunxiao froze. Feeling the soft bundle in his arms, the darkness in his eyes gradually melted away.

He awkwardly copied the way Qiao Xixi did it and patted his son’s little head.

"Father is fine."

Qiao Lie clutched tightly to Sunxiao’s beast-hide clothes, fighting back tears as he looked up.

"I... I won’t let you leave."

"Xixi."

Qiao Xixi snapped back to reality and looked at Jin Ling.

Jin Ling took her hand and brought it to his lips for a kiss.

"Qiao Lie told me everything."

Qiao Xixi was confused.

Jin Ling looked at her, his eyes filled with an unshakeable love.

"Qiao Lie said that if I didn’t agree, you wouldn’t let Sunxiao become your beastman mate."

Qiao Xixi nodded. She had indeed said that to Qiao Lie.

Jin Ling hugged her tighter, an indescribable joy filling his heart.

"Xixi, I’m so happy, and so fortunate to have met you."

This showed her respect and consideration for him, and he was more than content.

"As long as you’re willing, you can have whoever you want as your mate."

Qiao Xixi stared straight into his eyes.

"Jin Ling..."

Jin Ling kissed her lips and smoothed her furrowed brow.

"Xixi, I never thought I could have you all to myself, and my strength isn’t great enough to allow for it anyway. Having Sunxiao become part of the family will only put my mind at ease."

The thought of Qiao Xixi having another male in her heart did make him feel stifled.

But the incident in Demon Beast City had made him realize that he alone wasn’t strong enough to protect Qiao Xixi and the cubs and ensure they could live peacefully.

Sunxiao was powerful. With him joining them, their safety would have another layer of protection.

Besides, Sunxiao was Qiao Lie’s father. As long as he was good to Qiao Lie and Qiao Xixi, Jin Ling wouldn’t refuse him.

After he finished speaking, Jin Ling carried Qiao Xixi over to Sunxiao.

"Back on the cliff, thank you for saving me."

If it hadn’t been for Sunxiao then, he would have been the one to fall.

Sunxiao was equally repulsed by any male near Qiao Xixi. But Qiao Lie had told him that before he appeared, it was Jin Ling who had protected them through the many dangers they had faced.

This lessened his aversion to Jin Ling somewhat.

"Don’t mention it."

"From now on, let’s protect Xixi and the cubs together."

Qiao Xixi hadn’t expected there to be not a single trace of tension between them. The harmony felt almost dreamlike.

She had to admit, a large part of the credit went to Qiao Lie.

He had spent a lot of time "brainwashing" his biological father, telling him not to bully the "big male," or else both he and Qiao Xixi would be unhappy.

Sunxiao looked at Qiao Xixi’s clear, bright eyes, then at his own cub’s eager yet extremely restrained gaze, and the corners of his lips curled up faintly.

"Alright."

"However..."
