I Shall Cuck Everyone-Chapter 455: Vera’s Family
As we entered one of the bedrooms, the atmosphere shifted almost immediately. The room was quiet, warm, and dimly lit, the kind of place that made you instinctively lower your voice even when there was no reason to. I had barely taken two steps inside when I felt arms snake around my waist from behind, soft yet firm, as if she was afraid I might disappear if she loosened her grip even a little.
Vera pressed her body against my back, her cheek resting between my shoulder blades. Her hands locked together over my stomach, her fingers trembling faintly. Then, in a voice so low it almost blended into the silence, she muttered, "I love you."
The words hit me harder than I expected. I reached down, placing my hands over hers, squeezing gently. "I love you too," I said without hesitation. "And you really shouldn't be stressing yourself this much. You just gave birth. You need to rest."
She slowly unfolded her arms, almost reluctantly, and I turned around to face her. Before she could step away, I pulled her back into a warm hug, one hand settling on her back while the other cradled her waist. She tilted her head upward, her silver eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that made my breath hitch. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"You always say that," she murmured, her lips curving slightly. "But you're the one who never rests."
I chuckled softly. "Someone has to worry about you."
For a brief moment, neither of us said anything. The way she looked at me then was… unsettling. Her gaze was sharp, almost obsessive, like the stare of a yandere who had decided her entire world revolved around the person in front of her. It sent a shiver down my spine, though not entirely an unpleasant one. Maybe it was the hormones, maybe it was the aftermath of childbirth, or maybe it was simply the bond between us growing stronger in a way I hadn't anticipated. Whatever it was, I could feel something spark between us again.
Vera suddenly blinked, her expression faltering. "Um… I—I was wondering," she stuttered, her fingers tightening slightly around my shirt. "What are we going to name our child?"
The question caught me off guard, but I smiled. "Do you have any suggestions?" I asked gently.
She shook her head. "No. I always thought we'd talk about it together when the time was right. I kept waiting for the perfect moment, but then… everything happened so fast."
My smile faded, guilt settling heavily in my chest. "I'm sorry," I said quietly. "For not being there."
She reached up, placing a finger against my lips. "It's fine," she said firmly. "I understand. Being with you in the first place was kind of selfish of me. It strained my relationship with Misty. She was my best friend long before she was anything else. But… I'm glad we settled things in the end."
I let out a slow sigh, pulling her closer again. "Everything will be fine," I said. "We'll give our baby a beautiful name. One that means something." I paused, then added, "But there's something I want to ask you first."
Her eyebrows lifted as she studied my face. "What is it?"
"Why aren't your parents here?" I asked carefully. "Or any of your family."
The moment the words left my mouth, I regretted them. Vera's expression changed instantly. The light in her eyes dimmed, and she gently slipped out of my arms, walking over to the bed before sitting down on its edge. I followed her, sitting beside her, close enough that our shoulders touched.
She stared at her hands for a moment, her fingers fidgeting. I swallowed hard. "It's okay if you don't want to talk about it," I said softly. "It's my fault for not knowing these things. I should've asked sooner."
She shook her head quickly. "No, it's not like that," she replied. "I just… didn't expect the question. It caught me off-guard."
Her voice sounded sad, but when she glanced at me, I noticed something else in her expression. Delight. A small, fragile happiness that I cared enough to ask. That realization only made the guilt in my chest heavier.
She took a deep breath. "My parents wanted me to marry a pure human," she began slowly. "Someone normal, they said. Someone acceptable. But I disappointed them."
I stayed silent, listening.
"I got pregnant by another race," she continued, her voice trembling. "A vampire. And to make things worse, most humans are… highly racist toward vampires. They hate them. Because of their feeding habits. Because of the atrocities in the past. They don't care if those things happened generations ago."
Her hands clenched into fists. "When you didn't come to ask for my hand in marriage, they cut ties with me completely. They said I disgraced the family. That they didn't even know what the man who impregnated their daughter looked like."
As she spoke those words, tears finally spilled from her eyes, trailing down her cheeks and dripping onto the bedsheets. My chest tightened painfully. I reached out, pulling her into my arms, letting her cry against me as her shoulders shook.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, over and over again. "I should have been there. I should have done better."
She shook her head weakly against my chest. "I don't regret choosing you," she said between sobs. "Not even for a second. I just… wish things didn't have to hurt this much."
I held her tighter, pressing my forehead against hers. "You're not alone anymore," I said firmly. "Not you. Not our child. I promise you that."
She looked up at me through tear-filled eyes, searching my face for something.
