Chapter 94: Chapter 94: What a Lot of Nerve

"What? Did you have your son with my dad? Is that why you think you’re entitled to our house?" Grace shot back, not holding back at all.

Patricia Payne trembled with rage. She shot up from her seat to slap Grace.

But Grace had no intention of just standing there and taking it, and she easily dodged the slap.

Patricia Payne lost her balance and stumbled forward, falling flat on her face.

Grace stood a short distance away, looking down at the woman sprawled before her. She couldn’t help but chuckle. "Aunt Patricia, why are you giving a junior like me such a formal bow? I’m not worthy."

"You... you... you! This is outrageous! You’ve gone too far! Stephen Lynch, are you going to rein in your niece or not?" Patricia Payne, still on the floor, shrieked as she slammed her hand against the ground, her face contorted with rage at Grace’s words.

Stephen Lynch’s face hardened. "Grace," he said coldly, "apologize to your aunt!"

Grace stood with her arms crossed. "Seriously? Are you people out of your minds? This is my house. You barge in here, try to bully me, and now you want *me* to apologize to *you*?"

"And on top of that, you want to take our house?"

"Are you bandits? Even bandits wouldn’t be this brazen."

"My parents have sons, you know. Two of them. And you still have the gall to act like our family line is dead so you can pick us clean? Keep dreaming."

Stephen Lynch shot to his feet.

Grace instinctively took two steps back.

Just then, Gregory Winslow’s face grew stern. "That’s enough!" he boomed.

"If you’re here for a family visit, you are welcome. We’d be happy to host you. It would be no problem to have you stay for dinner."

"But if you came to my home with ulterior motives, and to bully my daughter, then I must ask you to leave. Right now!"

As a doting father, there was no way Gregory Winslow would tolerate someone bullying his daughter right in front of him.

Stephen Lynch was a little afraid of Gregory Winslow.

Gregory, after all, had been a soldier. He’d seen the battlefield and even killed men. When his face grew stern with anger, he was truly intimidating.

Stephen Lynch swallowed hard before speaking in a low voice, "Brother-in-law, we came all this way. Aren’t you going to let us stay for a few days?"

"My dad always says that in our whole family, you and my third sister are the most successful. And your two sons are so capable, too, buying their own houses and moving out so early on."

"This house of yours is really nice. My son, Joseph, is getting ready to get married. Could you... lend us this house to use for a while?"

"It’d be much easier for him to find a wife if he had a house in the city."

"He’s your nephew too, after all. I’m sure he’d be good to you both in the future. What do you think?"

"I think you should get the hell out of my house right now! This house is for my daughter. The deed is in her name, so don’t even think about it."

"Joseph? What nephew? He’s no nephew of ours."

"Your mother nearly killed my wife back in the day. The fact that we’ve still been willing to send you money for living expenses every year is us being more than generous."

"If you people don’t learn to appreciate what you’re given, you won’t get another cent from us ever again!" Gregory Winslow shouted, pointing right in Stephen Lynch’s face.

Patricia Payne scrambled up from the floor, incensed. "What kind of talk is that? You’re his brother-in-law! What’s wrong with helping out your wife’s brother? And isn’t my son your nephew, too? You’re his uncle! You clearly have the means, so why can’t you help your own flesh and blood?"

"Besides, Grace is just a girl—and a divorced one at that! A daughter is a money pit. And you’re leaving the house to *her*? Have you lost your mind?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"I’m making the decision right now. This house is going to be put in my son’s name. Who leaves a house to a daughter? Daughters just get married off anyway."

"Patricia Payne, you get the hell out of my house!" Irene Lynch, who had originally intended to stay quiet, finally exploded after hearing them become more and more outrageous.

Her furious roar made Patricia Payne jump and tremble in fear.
