I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home-Chapter 73: Use Me as Bait
"Something’s not right." The initial wave of worry passed, and a thought flashed through Grace Winslow’s mind.
Gordon Lynch had managed to operate all over the country. How could a man who’d dropped out before even finishing middle school have the means to do that?
Forget the fact that he’d need letters of introduction just to travel. The people he trafficked were sold off to various remote mountain regions. The sheer scale of the operation required was too terrifying for her to even contemplate.
Yet he’d been at this for ten years before finally getting caught.
"What is it?" Archer Rhys sensed something was wrong with Grace and asked in a hushed voice.
Grace grabbed his hand and pulled him aside. "Something’s wrong. I think someone leaked the details of the raid."
"If no one tipped him off, how could he have possibly known someone was coming to get him?"
"And he sent all those men here to try and grab me. He must know I’m the one who reported him to the police. That’s why he’s trying to get revenge."
Grace’s mind was crystal clear. "I think there’s a real mastermind behind these traffickers."
Archer Rhys’s expression turned grim.
He gave Grace a deep look. ’He hadn’t expected her to be so sharp, figuring it out this quickly.’
"Okay. I want you to go back to the factory and stay there. Don’t come out unless you have to. Leave the rest to me." Archer patted Grace’s shoulder.
But Grace held his arm tightly. "I have an idea. I want to act as bait to lure Gordon Lynch out."
"Once we catch him, we might be able to smoke out the people behind him."
Archer considered it for a moment. "It’s too dangerous."
"He’s trafficked so many children and ruined who knows how many families. If taking this risk means I can stop them from hurting anyone else, I think it’s worth it. Besides," Grace’s gaze was resolute, "I trust you to protect me. I know you won’t let me get hurt."
Archer froze. He hadn’t expected Grace to trust him that much.
It was as if a fire had ignited deep inside him. His heart pounded in his chest, and all other sounds faded away, leaving only the echo of Grace’s voice.
He slowly exhaled. "Go back for now. I’ll think about it. I’m busy for the next few days, so don’t you dare try anything reckless on your own." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Of course Grace wasn’t going to take matters into her own hands.
’She wasn’t an idiot.’
’She couldn’t take on Gordon Lynch, and he definitely had lackeys. Why would she risk her own skin without any backup?’
’She’d gone through too much to get this second chance at life.’
’She wasn’t done living this life yet.’
"I promise."
The two of them spoke for a little longer.
Several of the people who had come along to confront the traffickers had lost their own children. They were now crying and wailing, demanding the criminals give their children back.
"Alright, everyone, please calm down. We’ve rescued the children. They’re all at the police station right now. The plan was to notify everyone who filed a missing child report to come identify them tomorrow."
"But since you’re all here now, you might as well come and see if you can identify them."
At these words, tears streamed down everyone’s faces.
"This is wonderful! It’s truly wonderful! My Erbao... I can get my Erbao back!"
"My Goudan’s been missing for half a month. My wife has cried herself blind, and my mother has fallen ill from grief. If I can get my son back, I..."
Silently wiping away their tears, they all followed, filled with a desperate hope, on the way to the police station.
