Chapter 46: Chapter 46: If You Can’t Make It, Come Home and I’ll Support You

"Your dad’s inside. Go have a good talk with him. He might not be good with words, but he’s very worried about you. He’s asked me several times if you’ll be okay living alone after the divorce, and he even told me to find time to go over and take care of you for a few days."

Irene Lynch pulled Grace aside and whispered a few words in her ear.

Grace’s eyes welled up, and she nodded.

Gregory Winslow was smoking in the room. When he saw Grace come in, he instinctively stubbed out his cigarette.

"Dad," Grace said, going over to sit down.

Gregory Winslow grunted softly in acknowledgment.

"Dad... I was the one who insisted on marrying Caleb Forrest, and now, just a few months later, I’m the one demanding a divorce. Do you blame me?" Grace sat beside her father, pausing for a moment before she spoke.

At her words, Gregory Winslow turned to look at her. "I only blame myself."

Grace’s eyes turned red. "Dad, I was being childish and headstrong. I won’t be like that again, I promise."

"From now on, I just want to work hard, make money, and spend time with you and Mom."

"I’m not getting married again. I’ll just stay home and live off you guys forever. You can’t get sick of me, okay?"

"If you get tired, just come home. Your dad can still provide for you." Gregory Winslow hesitated for a moment before raising his hand to pat Grace’s shoulder.

Grace leaned her head on his shoulder. "My dad’s the best to me. If I can’t hack it out there, I’ll just come home and be a freeloader."

"Mom, Dad said if I can’t make it out there, I can just come home, and he’ll provide for me."

"You just love to spoil her," Irene Lynch called out, laughing from the kitchen.

It wasn’t until six o’clock that Nolan and Brandon Winslow got home from work.

The house instantly grew more lively.

The three children were a whirlwind of noise and excitement, absolutely thrilled to see that Grace had brought back so much candy.

Irene Lynch chided them, gave each child two pieces, and then put the rest away.

"If you eat too much candy at night, you’ll get cavities. You can have more during the day."

"Grace, why did you buy so much stuff? Don’t waste your money like that. You should save it for yourself. It’s not like we’re short on food here." Nolan glanced at the things Grace had brought back, unable to resist muttering.

"I have money, you know," Grace said with a cheerful grin.

’She felt so much more relaxed with her family.’

’Here, she wasn’t Caleb Forrest’s wife, nor was she Cindy Lowell’s daughter-in-law. She didn’t have to wait on anyone or walk on eggshells around them.’

’In her parents’ and brothers’ eyes, she was just their youngest sister, who could be as willful as she pleased.’

They had a very pleasant dinner.

With full bellies, the three children had all fallen asleep.

Nolan and Brandon each carried their sleeping child home.

Irene Lynch tidied up Grace’s room. "From now on, come home and stay for a few days whenever you have time. We always keep your room ready for you."

"You’ve gotten so thin lately. You haven’t been eating properly, have you?"

Grace sat on the edge of the bed, taking her mother’s hand. "No, it’s not that. Work has just been a little tiring. I’m new to the position and still have a lot to learn, so things are hectic. But it should get better after this initial rush."

"Mom, I might even get an outstanding employee award by the end of the year, you never know."

"Why are you working yourself so hard? I don’t care if you get some award or not. I just want you to be healthy and happy."

"My precious daughter, you’ve suffered so much."

"That Caleb Forrest is a real piece of work. He promised me and your father at the wedding that he would treat you well for the rest of your life. I hate myself for it. Your father said he didn’t seem reliable, and I should have listened to him. I should have stopped you from marrying him."

As Irene spoke, her eyes turned red.

Grace hugged her. "Mom, everyone has to go through some things to grow up. The lucky thing is, I got out of that hellhole early. We were only married for three months. What if I’d been married to him for three years, or even thirty, before finding out what he was really like? Wouldn’t that be so much worse?"

"Don’t be upset; it’s not your fault. When I was dating him, I had no idea he was like this either."

"It was his fault, plain and simple. Why should we be the ones to suffer the consequences of his mistakes?"

"Mom, I’m going to be just fine, I promise. You have to believe me."

"Of course I believe you. It just breaks my heart. You’re my baby, the child I raised coddling you in the palm of my hand. How could I stand to see you bullied like this?" Irene Lynch reached out to pat Grace’s back, tears streaming down her face.
