I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home-Chapter 43: You Flaunt What You Lack, Right?
"Grace Winslow, you—how could you hit me?" Ivy White asked in disbelief, clutching her face as she stared at Grace.
’How dare Grace hit me?’
At her words, Grace raised her hand again and slapped Ivy hard across the other side of her face.
"You’re exactly who I meant to hit. I didn’t settle the score with you before, and you really thought I was a pushover, didn’t you?"
"You moved into my and Caleb Forrest’s marital home, slept in our marital bed, wore my clothes, and got involved with Caleb. If you’re going to be the other woman, you should have the decency to act like it. Keep a low profile instead of constantly showing off."
"People usually show off what they don’t have. You’re so desperate to flaunt how happy you and Caleb are to me... could it be that after getting with him, life isn’t quite what you imagined?"
Grace reached out and grabbed Ivy’s chin.
Ivy tried to break free but found she couldn’t.
These days, both Grace and Ivy were well-known figures at the factory. The sight of them together immediately drew a crowd of onlookers.
Hearing Grace’s taunts directed at Ivy, many people couldn’t help but snicker. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Ivy’s face flushed with anger. "Grace, you’re just jealous of me! What ’other woman’? In love, the one who isn’t loved is the third wheel. Caleb Forrest and I have known each other for a long time. I was even his first love! If we hadn’t been forced to separate back then for certain reasons, where would you even fit in?"
"All that’s happening now is that things are being set right. You can stop with the snide remarks."
"Caleb is very good to me, and I’m not showing off. But you, you’re the one who got thrown away. I’d like to see how you manage to get by now!"
Grace scoffed. "Ivy, you don’t actually believe I can’t live without Caleb Forrest, do you?"
"As you can see, I have a job, an income, and parents who love me. The only thing I don’t have is a fickle, two-faced, cheating man."
"So tell me, in what way is my life worse than yours?"
"And what about you?"
"You married Caleb. You moved into his family’s home, where you have endless chores and laundry. Oh, and let’s not forget his sharp-tongued, cruel mother, who’s paralyzed in bed and finds new ways to make your life miserable every day."
"I really don’t see how great your life is."
Grace’s words completely broke through Ivy’s defenses.
She had originally thought being the deputy director’s wife would be a comfortable life.
Caleb Forrest had money and a house. She thought that if she got together with him, her life would at least be better than it was with the Dunn family.
But as it turned out, her life now was even worse than when she was with the Dunns.
This huge disparity left her feeling deeply resentful.
Especially seeing Grace now in the spotlight at the factory.
She had the most respectable job, looking bright and glamorous—the complete opposite of herself.
After leaving Caleb, Grace’s entire aura had clearly changed.
Her already delicate features now seemed even more radiant and captivating.
Her skin was fair with a rosy glow, no longer sallow and dull like before.
Ivy was both jealous and envious.
"Accountant Winslow, she’s just jealous of you."
"What’s wrong with Director Forrest’s eyes? Ditching a beautiful wife like Accountant Winslow to have an affair."
The people in the crowd couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Ivy was utterly humiliated.
’It wasn’t supposed to be like this.’
’She was the director’s wife, so why did these people still dare to laugh at her?’
Her gaze swept over the onlookers, but she just couldn’t understand.
"Ivy, if I recall correctly, you don’t work at the factory, do you? Is a place like the workshop somewhere you’re allowed to be? You’re not trying to steal some kind of factory secret, are you?" Grace shot Ivy a sidelong glance, her eyes filled with scrutiny.
Everyone’s expression changed, and they began to look at Ivy with suspicion.
