Chapter 36: Chapter 36: A Father’s Love is Like a Mountain

"Grace, how about you just quit the textile factory? You can come work where I do. I’ll pull some strings and get you a position," Nolan Winslow said, his voice laced with concern.

Grace Winslow was taken aback for a moment, but then she understood his concern.

She smiled and replied, "Nolan, it’s not like we’re the ones in the wrong. Why should we be the ones to leave?"

"Even if someone has to go, it should be Ivy White and Caleb Forrest. If I actually left, it would only make them think I’m admitting guilt."

Although Nolan Winslow understood her reasoning, he couldn’t hide his worry.

"Don’t worry, Nolan," Brandon Winslow said, patting his brother’s shoulder. "You’re forgetting—Ms. Callahan, the head of the Finance Department, is a relative of your wife. We can just ask her to put in a good word and keep an eye on Grace."

Gregory Winslow, who had been silent the whole time, finally spoke up slowly. "If you really run into trouble, just go find Mr. Osborne."

"Mr. Osborne?" Grace was stunned, then looked at him in disbelief. "Dad, you don’t mean... the factory director, do you?"

"Mhm." Gregory Winslow nodded. "We were in the same company back in the army. I even took a bullet for him. He won’t stand by and let you get bullied."

Grace’s eyes began to redden.

Gregory Winslow never said sappy things, but he was always there when she needed him, quietly protecting her from the shadows.

’I don’t know what good deeds I must have done in my past life to deserve such a wonderful family.’

"Dad, I won’t get bullied, so don’t you all worry. You should be worrying about the people who try to bully me. My dad and brothers are so capable; they’ll always back me up." Grace reached out, grabbing Gregory Winslow’s arm and leaning against his shoulder.

A faint smile appeared on Gregory Winslow’s face. He patted Grace’s head. "Just don’t let yourself be wronged. If anyone gives you a hard time, you can always come back to us."

"Remember, your family will always be your strongest support."

"No matter what happens, as long as you come home, we can help you through it."

Grace nodded, barely holding back her tears.

She looked up, forcing the tears back.

They finished their meal in high spirits. Afterward, Nolan Winslow escorted Grace back to the factory dormitory. Gregory Winslow and Brandon Winslow had other matters to attend to, so they headed home first.

When Grace Winslow returned to the factory, she noticed that many people were giving her strange looks, full of scrutiny and contempt.

The looks were blatant, filled with obvious malice.

’Caleb Forrest and Ivy White must have been busy slandering my name while I was away.’

’But they’re truly too naive.’

’Lies can’t pass for the truth.’

’And not everyone is a fool.’

’Besides, they’re just irrelevant people. I don’t really care what they think.’

’In my past life, I cared far too much about what others thought, and that’s why I lived so miserably.’

’This life, I refuse to let myself be wronged in the slightest.’

Back in her dorm room, Grace Winslow still felt a sense of unreality.

Rebirth, divorce... it had all happened in less than a month.

And in that single month, she had accomplished things she hadn’t managed to do in her entire past life.

The dormitory rooms didn’t have private bathrooms; the communal restrooms were at the end of the hall to the right.

At this hour, most of the factory employees hadn’t gotten off work yet, so the restrooms were empty.

Grace quickly boiled two kettles of hot water and took a long, comfortable bath.

She even added pomelo leaves to the water, a tradition to wash away bad luck. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

By the time she finished and came out, the factory employees were trickling back from their shifts.

Many of them were stunned to see Grace Winslow.

Caleb Forrest had been very high-profile about his wedding, so nearly everyone at the factory recognized Grace. Now, seeing her moving into the employee dorms and recalling the rumors circulating around the factory, the looks in their eyes turned strange.

This was especially true for a few of the men. The slimy, blatant way they stared at her made Grace Winslow frown.
