Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Let Your Partner Take Care of You

Caleb Forrest practically fled from Grace Winslow’s hospital room.

He took the thermos he had brought with him, looking utterly devastated as he left.

Grace’s words echoed endlessly in his mind. He couldn’t understand how things had come to this.

Grace Winslow’s mood was soured by Caleb Forrest. Seeing that Irene Lynch and Lily Callahan were gone, she figured they probably had to work and couldn’t stay at the hospital to look after her all day.

She had been on an IV drip all night, so she was feeling much better now.

She threw on a piece of clothing and got up, planning to find something to eat.

But just as she stepped out the door, a wave of dizziness washed over her. Her legs gave way, and she instinctively pitched forward.

"Careful." A deep, pleasant voice sounded by her ear, and the next moment, Grace felt herself fall into a solid embrace.

Her forehead hit his chest hard, and the pain made her let out a muffled groan.

An instant later, a large, warm hand rested on her forehead.

She instinctively looked up and found herself gazing into a pair of deep, bottomless eyes.

She froze for a moment before realizing how intimate their position was and quickly tried to straighten up.

But another wave of dizziness hit, and she nearly lost her balance again.

The man reached out a hand to steady her. "Are you all right?"

"Thank you, I’m fine." Grace slowly exhaled, though the world felt like it was spinning.

"I’ll take you back to your room." Seeing her pale face, the man’s sharp brows furrowed, and he spoke without leaving room for argument.

Before Grace could even process what was happening, she was swept up into his arms.

She was flustered and annoyed. "Sir, please! This is highly improper..."

"This is a special circumstance. You don’t look well," the man said in his low voice.

Grace’s eyes fell on the uniform he was wearing, and she silently swallowed the rest of her words.

It wasn’t until he placed her back on the bed that she could finally let out a breath. "Thank you."

Her tone was a little awkward.

In all these years, she had never been in such close contact with any man other than Caleb Forrest.

"I’ll go get a doctor." The man glanced down at her, noticing a faint blush creeping across her pale cheeks. He couldn’t tell if it was from embarrassment or her fever.

He stood up, turned, and walked out of the room.

A short while later, a doctor and nurse came in.

Grace subconsciously glanced behind them but didn’t see the man from before.

She hadn’t even had the chance to ask his name.

’But for some reason,’ she thought, ’his face seemed familiar, as if I’d seen him somewhere before.’

She shook her head, but the dizzy spell lingered.

The doctor came over to take her temperature and, sure enough, she had a high fever.

"It’s 40 degrees! Where’s your family? Is there no one here to look after you?" the nurse asked, frowning as she looked at the thermometer.

Grace shook her head. "My family has to work today. I’m so dizzy..."

"Of course you’re dizzy. You’re running a 40-degree fever on top of pneumonia that hasn’t even healed yet. If you need anything, call a nurse. Don’t go wandering off by yourself, it’s dangerous. Getting caught in a draft will only make your condition worse."

Grace nodded helplessly. "I was just a little hungry, so I thought..."

"Was that your boyfriend just now?" the nurse interrupted. "Have him go get you something to eat. The cafeteria has food."

Just as Grace was about to deny it, the door to her room swung open.

The man in the green military uniform walked in, holding a steaming food container.
