I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home-Chapter 140: Shop GET
"Alright, ma’am. We’ll need you to come with us to the station to give a statement." The two officers glanced at the flustered woman and took her directly to the station.
A dozen or so civilians followed them all the way to the police station. Only after seeing them go inside did the curious crowd finally leave, relieved.
Grace Winslow recounted the entire story of the attempted robbery, down to the last detail.
The officer taking her statement couldn’t help but smile. "Comrade, you’ve got some skills. He’s robbed someone once before, but since it was his first offense and the victim didn’t want to press charges after getting their money back, we just detained him for three months. I can’t believe he was released just two days ago and he’s already at it again."
"Please investigate this thoroughly. I have other things to attend to, so I’ll be going now." After a few polite words, Grace Winslow left.
A kind officer, worried something might happen to her on the way, escorted her part of the way home.
When Grace Winslow got home, Irene Lynch was terrified.
"Why are you back so late? I just heard from the neighbors that someone was robbed by a motorcycle snatcher after withdrawing money from the post office. It scared me to death! I was afraid it was you." Irene Lynch pulled Grace close, looking her up and down for a long while. Only after confirming she was unharmed did Irene breathe a sigh of relief.
Grace Winslow rubbed her nose, not daring to admit that she was the unlucky victim.
She just offered a few words of comfort to Irene Lynch and handed her the money. "Mom, it’s not safe for me to carry so much money at school. You hold onto it for now. Later, if Comrade York comes by to take you to see a storefront, just go with him. If the price is right, go ahead and buy it."
"I might be a bit busy with my studies lately, so I might not be able to come home every week. You and Dad have to take good care of yourselves."
Gregory Winslow glanced over upon hearing this. "I’m not that old yet."
"By the way, Mom, Dad, I sent a letter to my brother and sister-in-law. You should check the post office often for a reply."
Grace Winslow had written to Nolan Winslow to ask about the family’s situation back home.
It would be best if they could all come to Coronet.
The education and everything else would be much better here.
If her young nephews and nieces came, she wouldn’t have to worry about their future.
"Look at you, worrying about this and that all day. You’re going to look older than me soon," Irene Lynch said with a huff and a laugh, poking Grace Winslow’s forehead.
Grace Winslow chuckled. "I was just worried you’d miss your grandchildren, so I sent a letter home."
"I do miss them a little. I’ve never been away from home for so long. I’m not used to it." Irene Lynch’s smile froze. After a moment of silence, she spoke in a low voice.
Grace Winslow hugged her. "Why don’t you go home for a visit? We haven’t bought the storefront yet, anyway."
"No. The trip back and forth is such a hassle, not to mention a waste of time and money." Irene Lynch refused decisively.
Grace Winslow didn’t know what else to say.
There was no news from Sean York, so Grace Winslow decided to look around the neighborhood herself.
The area was near the university and had many residents. If a storefront was for sale, buying it would be a good investment.
She spent the next morning walking around and actually found a few good locations, but unfortunately, they were all private residences whose owners had no intention of selling.
Just as she was about to head out in the afternoon, Sean York arrived.
This time, he came on a bicycle.
It was an 18-inch bicycle, and he looked quite dashing riding it.
Grace Winslow noticed he was wearing new clothes and couldn’t resist teasing him. "Comrade York, you’re dressed up like a peacock. Anyone who didn’t know better would think you were going on a blind date."
Hearing this, Sean York nearly fell off his bicycle.
He shot Grace Winslow an irritated glare. "Shut your mouth. If you don’t speak, no one will think you’re a mute."
Grace Winslow raised an eyebrow. ’Why does he look like I just exposed an embarrassing secret?’
’Could he really have been on a blind date?’
She sized up Sean York curiously.
Sean York felt completely uncomfortable under her gaze.
"I came to find you because I saw a decent storefront and wanted to take you to see it. The location is okay—not as good as the last one we saw, but it’s cheaper. Only three thousand. As for the size, it’s a bit smaller. It has two floors, with the upper floor being about fifty to sixty square meters, but it has courtyards in the front and back, each around thirty to forty square meters."
"If you like it, we can probably still negotiate the price a bit."
Grace Winslow’s interest was immediately piqued. "Let’s go, let’s take a look."
Sean York patted the back seat of his bicycle. "If you want to go, hop on. I’ll take you there."
Grace Winslow glanced at it, hesitated for a moment, but still got on.
The place Sean York mentioned wasn’t far. It was quite close to her home and also near Crestwood University—less than a half-hour walk away. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
The location was indeed quite good. It was surrounded by residential areas, and there was a restaurant next door with decent business.
The house was just as Sean York had described: a courtyard in the front and one in the back, two floors, and a terrace on the roof.
Grace Winslow liked it the moment she saw it.
’With a few renovations, this could become a very stylish restaurant.’
Sean York had gotten the key from the landlord and took Grace Winslow inside for a look.
The house was very old, a vintage Western-style house right by the road in a relatively open location.
The stairs went CREAK CREAK when she stepped on them. ’If we’re going to make real use of this place, these stairs will have to be replaced.’
Grace Winslow went upstairs to take a look. The space upstairs was simple; it seemed to have originally been a bedroom, a small living room, and a balcony.
It looked like no one had lived there for a long time. The dust was thick, and Grace Winslow choked a little as soon as she entered.
Dust motes floated in the air, and the paint on the walls was peeling badly.
’It probably hasn’t been well-maintained over the years.’
"Let’s talk to the landlord. This house is so run-down, I’ll have to spend a lot on renovations if I buy it. You have to push the price down for me."
Sean York nodded and took Grace Winslow to meet the landlord.
The landlord was an old gentleman wearing gold-rimmed glasses who lived in the residential complex behind the property.
Grace Winslow felt the place looked familiar. After looking around for a while, she asked Sean York in surprise, "This isn’t Crestwood University’s faculty housing, is it?"
"Yes. The old gentleman is a physics professor at Crestwood University. This is the housing the university assigned him. That old house was his original property, but he doesn’t want it anymore and is thinking of selling."
Sean York hadn’t expected Grace Winslow to figure it out so quickly, so he didn’t hide it.
’A physics professor at Crestwood University?’ That was no simple identity.
But upon seeing the old gentleman’s legs, Grace Winslow fell silent for a moment. Suddenly, she lost the heart to haggle over the price.
’Three thousand isn’t unacceptable.’
’Buying a property in a location like that could never be a loss.’
’She wasn’t short two or three hundred right now anyway.’
However, before she could speak, Sean York had already started talking to the old gentleman.
The old gentleman looked up at Grace Winslow, his expression indifferent. His voice was low and carried the oppressive air of someone in a position of authority. "Two thousand eight hundred. If that’s acceptable, we can go handle the paperwork immediately. If you think it’s too expensive, there’s nothing more to say. I don’t mind just letting it sit there unsold."
Sean York instinctively looked at Grace Winslow.
Grace Winslow thought for a moment, then nodded.
’She had no reason not to buy it.’
