I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home-Chapter 135: Roommate
"Pfft."
Seeing Grace Winslow’s reaction, Sean York couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
"Don’t get the wrong idea. I didn’t mean it like that," Sean York explained hurriedly when he saw Grace’s expression darken. "I just think you’re a great person, and I happen to have a pretty decent friend. I thought if you were interested in dating, I could introduce you. My career is just taking off and things aren’t stable yet, so I wouldn’t dare make any promises lightly."
"Comrade York, please don’t say things that can be so easily misunderstood in the future," Grace said, her face still grim.
"I won’t, I won’t," Sean York said, raising his hand as if swearing an oath. "So, I’ll keep an eye out for a storefront you might like. When I have news, should I let you know by finding your parents at your house, or should I find you at the university?"
Grace Winslow thought for a moment before replying, "I should be back on weekends. But since I’m just a freshman, my class schedule will probably be very tight. I might not have time to come home, at least for the first few months."
"You can just come find me at the university. I’m in the Foreign Languages Department; it should be easy to find."
"Alright, I’ll go directly to the university to find you then," Sean York nodded.
After dinner, Sean York and Andrew Aldridge helped move things for a while longer before they left.
"The beds and everything have been moved to storage. The house is completely empty now, so we’ll have to make do and put up with it for tonight," Gregory Winslow said. He had built a simple bed frame out of stones, with two wooden planks on top. It was truly just a makeshift solution for one night.
Everything about the move here had been too rushed. They had been so busy moving things all day that they hadn’t had a chance to buy anything. They would probably have to buy a lot of things tomorrow.
Grace Winslow directly stuffed three thousand yuan into Irene Lynch’s hand. "Mom, I’m going to the university tomorrow. The school has a rule that I have to live in the dorms, so I might not be able to come home for a while. Tomorrow, go see what the house needs and buy it. Don’t be too frugal." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"I know," Irene Lynch said as she took the money. Although she agreed readily, she still planned to be as frugal as possible.
After all, Grace’s education would cost money, and they had already spent a lot on the house. Ten thousand yuan seemed like a lot, but it really wasn’t. It wouldn’t last long if they weren’t careful.
Fortunately, although Grace had resigned, she still had her January salary coming. She had already arranged for May Callahan to wire it to her when the time came. With that extra income, she wouldn’t have to worry about not having enough money to buy the shop.
They had shipped a huge batch of goods before the New Year holiday, so the bonus would be quite substantial.
"Grace, I just feel so uneasy. We spent so much money and didn’t leave any savings. Is that really okay? What if our business doesn’t make any money? What will we do then?"
Lying in bed, Irene Lynch felt a sense of unreality.
Spending several thousand yuan all at once was something she would have never dared to even imagine in the past.
After all, an ordinary worker only earned two or three hundred yuan a year. They had basically spent someone’s entire salary for ten years.
"Mom, don’t overthink it. Even if we fail, we still have Dad as a safety net, don’t we? Besides, we won’t fail."
"Stop worrying so much. It’s late. Go to sleep. We have a lot to do tomorrow."
Grace Winslow hugged Irene Lynch, and after speaking, she fell asleep.
Irene Lynch, however, couldn’t quite fall asleep.
’Unlike Grace, I wasn’t reborn from decades in the future. I don’t know what the economy will become.’
’In my eyes, suddenly taking all our savings to open a store is a gamble.’
’And in gambling, you can win or lose. What if we lose?’
’All that money... it made her heart race with anxiety.’
Seeing that Grace was already asleep, Irene Lynch sighed and quietly closed her eyes.
Grace Winslow was up early the next day.
She was in a hurry to get to the university.
She didn’t have a bicycle here, so she had to walk to school.
Grace got up at six to head to the university.
Today was the first day of the semester, and she needed to go to her dorm first to drop off a change of clothes and other things.
Fortunately, the house they bought wasn’t far from the university. It was less than a twenty-minute walk.
When Grace arrived at the university, she had to ask a security guard to find the location of the dorms.
She was in an eight-person room with four bunk beds. The bottom bunks were all taken, and one of the top bunks was piled high with all sorts of things.
Grace wasn’t surprised by this at all.
She walked over and said, "Excuse me, this is my bunk. Could you please clear your things off it?"
It was six-thirty, and most of the people in the dorm were already awake.
Hearing Grace say this, they all turned to look at her.
They had thought there were only seven people in their dorm room; they hadn’t expected an eighth.
Seeing that Grace was dressed like a young lady from the city and was also very pretty, their minds immediately filled with all sorts of speculation.
A few of the girls who had put their luggage on Grace’s bed came over and took their things, but a red leather suitcase and two cardboard boxes remained.
Grace scanned the room. "Whose things are these? Can you please get them?"
"Yelling, yelling, what’s all the yelling about? So what if I put my things there? You’re the one who showed up late, and now you’re making a racket in the dorm first thing in the morning. Just had to make a scene, didn’t you?"
"You have hands and feet. Can’t you take them down yourself?"
Grace had barely finished speaking when the curtain of a nearby bunk was yanked open forcefully. The girl inside, hair a complete mess and clearly not fully awake, looked out with an expression of pure annoyance.
Her face was full of resentment. After she finished yelling, she got up and STOMP, STOMP, STOMPED over to Grace. She grabbed the suitcase from the bed, threw it on the floor, and then took down the two cardboard boxes as well.
Finally, she shot Grace a vicious glare before returning to her bunk and crawling back under the covers.
Grace raised an eyebrow. ’This roommate seems like she’s going to be difficult to get along with.’
’Well, it doesn’t really matter. It’s not like I’ll be living in the dorms forever, anyway.’
The other roommates looked at each other but didn’t say a word.
Grace made her bed, then checked the time. It was already seven o’clock.
She said a brief hello to the other roommates and then headed to her classroom.
"That new student, what was her name?" someone asked in a low voice after Grace had left.
"Who knows? She looks like some rich young lady. Maybe she’s a local."
"Let’s go. We’re going to be late for class."
Chatting amongst themselves, the group hurried off to class.
Even the girl with the bad attitude got up, washed her face, threw on a coat, and went to class.
The Foreign Languages Department had a considerable number of students.
This was a time when foreign language talent was in high demand, and the country was investing a great deal of effort in this area.
However, there weren’t many qualified teachers available to instruct them.
Crestwood University’s Foreign Languages Department was relatively well-established, with several professors.
The first class was all about getting to know the teachers and fellow students; they didn’t really have a proper lesson.
Grace also took the opportunity to plan her upcoming curriculum.
She had come to the university to learn. In addition to maxing out her schedule with courses from the Foreign Languages Department, she also selected a few others that interested her.
She filled every bit of her free time, leaving herself no room to breathe.
The student next to her couldn’t help but look shocked as she stared at Grace’s densely packed schedule.
