Chapter 128: Chapter 128: Confessing the Truth

Grace Winslow stopped in her tracks and looked up at Gregory Winslow in surprise.

She could only see his back.

His posture was straight and tall, yet there was an inexplicable air of weathered sorrow about him.

Before Grace Winslow could even wonder why, Gregory Winslow’s next words struck her like a bolt of lightning.

"You’re not my daughter. My daughter has never been to Coronet, and she’s never studied design. She got good grades in school, but she never had anything to do with design. Who are you?"

Gregory Winslow turned as he spoke, his sharp gaze landing on Grace Winslow.

Grace Winslow took a step back. "Dad..."

"I know my own daughter best. She clearly loved Caleb Forrest to the bone; she even dared to defy her family for his sake."

"You were only married for three months, yet you divorced him without a second thought."

"She’s such a sensitive, delicate girl. After being betrayed by the man she loved most and getting hurt so badly, how could she possibly have no reaction at all?"

"But I’ve never seen you shed a single tear, as if Caleb Forrest wasn’t the man you once loved so deeply, but just some stranger on the street."

"My Grace isn’t that hard-hearted."

"You’re very familiar with Coronet; you must spend a lot of time here."

"I won’t ask you where my Grace has gone. I just want to know who you are, why you’ve taken over my daughter’s body, and what is it you want?"

When Gregory Winslow wasn’t smiling, his presence was formidable.

With his aura on full display, Grace Winslow found it suffocating.

She looked at Gregory Winslow with reddened eyes as tears streamed down her pale cheeks. "Dad, it’s always been me. It’s just that... some things are very hard for me to explain. But please, believe me, will you?"

"I know you have no intention of harming us, but I want to know the truth." Gregory Winslow shook his head, unmoved by her words.

Grace Winslow wiped the tears from her face. "Come to my room, and I’ll explain everything. This isn’t the place to talk."

Gregory Winslow hesitated for only a moment before agreeing.

Upon entering Grace Winslow’s room, he left the door ajar to avoid any potential gossip.

Grace Winslow poured herself a cup of hot water, cradled it in her hands, and sat down. After a long silence, she finally spoke. "Dad... actually, I’ve died once and come back."

At her words, Gregory Winslow’s heart skipped a beat, and he jerked his head up to stare at Grace Winslow.

He was utterly thunderstruck.

Her words echoed in his mind.

’Died once and come back?’

He clenched his fists, a tempest raging in his heart.

Grace Winslow kept her head down, not looking at him. "In my past life, I didn’t listen to you and insisted on marrying Caleb Forrest. It was only after I moved into his home that I realized he had been lying to me the whole time."

"He had a paralyzed mother at home with a nasty personality, and she found new ways to torment me every single day."

"But because I loved him, I was willing to forgive her and endure it all for his sake."

"But I never expected that he would bring Ivy White home."

"Back then, I thought Ivy White was really the wife of his best friend. I knew it wasn’t easy for her with a child, so I took great care of her, and I looked after her child very well, too."

"Later, when Caleb Forrest and I had our own child, Ivy White played a trick and caused me to lose the baby in my womb."

"I hemorrhaged, which damaged my body. The doctor said it would be very difficult for me to ever have children again."

"Caleb Forrest suggested that we take Ivy White’s child as our godson, and I didn’t refuse."

"From then on, I devoted all my energy to that child."

"I learned so many things just so I could tutor him better."

"To take care of Caleb Forrest’s paralyzed mother, I even sought out a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner to learn Tui Na massage techniques."

"Timothy Dunn was in poor health, so I also learned about medicinal cuisine to help nurse him."

"I gave them my all, and in the end, I was diagnosed with cancer."

"Caleb Forrest chose to stop my treatment without a second thought. He said the family had no money, that Timothy still had to go to college, get married, and have children, and that they couldn’t waste so much money on someone who was going to die anyway."

"Even after all that, I didn’t really resent him."

"Not until Ivy White came and told me that she was actually Caleb Forrest’s one true love. They had been together behind my back for years. They even had another child, who they were secretly raising somewhere else."

"She said Timothy was actually Caleb Forrest’s son, too. The child I had poured my heart and soul into raising was my husband’s illegitimate son..."

"How ridiculous and ironic."

"When I opened my eyes again, I was back. The day Caleb Forrest first brought Ivy White home, I chose to divorce him without any hesitation and cut off the relationship."

"Dad, in my past life, our entire family was ruined by Ivy White and Caleb Forrest. My older brother was executed by firing squad, my sister-in-law died in childbirth, Mom cried herself blind, and you had an accident..."

"I also want to continue being that carefree little daughter who could just act cute in front of you. Relying on you and my two older brothers, I could live a very good life."

"But if I do that, I’ll lose the means to protect myself, and to protect you."

"So, I have to work hard and become strong. Only when I have absolute power and wealth will I avoid being as helpless as I was in my past life."

"I’ve never been anyone else. I am your daughter."

By the time Grace Winslow finished speaking, Gregory Winslow’s eyes were red.

He had never imagined that his daughter had suffered so much where he couldn’t see.

He didn’t know what had happened in her past life.

He only knew that in this life, after being married to Caleb Forrest for three months, Grace had come home just once for the traditional newlywed visit. After that, she didn’t come home again until she was getting divorced.

"My precious daughter, you’ve been wronged. How could you be so foolish? Why didn’t you tell your mother and me that you were suffering?" Gregory Winslow said with red eyes, pulling Grace Winslow into his arms.

Grace Winslow cried silently in his embrace.

She gently pushed Gregory Winslow away and wiped her tears. "Dad, don’t cry. It’s all over now. Everything is getting so much better."

"I’ve taken back everything they owed me from my past life. This time around, they haven’t been able to bully or use me in the slightest, nor have they been able to harm my family. I’m very content with that."

"You can’t just wallow in the pain of the past forever. We all have to look forward."

"What happened in my past life is over. If we keep holding on to it, we’ll be stuck in the past forever."

"We can’t live like that."

"Our family’s life is getting better and better now, while Caleb Forrest and Ivy White are living like rats in the gutter. That’s enough."

Gregory Winslow looked at Grace Winslow and sighed.

He would rather his daughter had never experienced such pain and was still that carefree little girl who only knew how to act cute with her mom and dad.

But Grace Winslow was right. One has to weather the storms of life to become a better person.
