I Married the President-Chapter 55: Very Busy
Claire Sinclair stood frozen, a ripple spreading through her heart.
He had always spoken to her in a detached, official tone. It was hard to imagine the two words "Good luck" actually coming out of his mouth.
’I can’t help but feel...’
’Have we gotten closer? Or is it just my imagination?’
’Wait, I almost forgot something!’
Claire Sinclair rushed after him, but he was already out of sight.
Left with no other option, she pulled out her phone to call him.
The call connected after a few moments. Claire Sinclair spoke immediately, "Mr. Quincy, there’s something I’d like to ask you."
"What is it?"
"Um..." Claire Sinclair began hesitantly. "I was thinking of moving my mother’s memorial tablet to... the new house. I was wondering if you would be okay with that?"
She had almost said ’our home,’ but thankfully, she corrected herself just in time.
’After all, it was just my mother; she had nothing to do with him. I was afraid he would mind.’
Adrian Quincy barely gave it a second thought before replying calmly, "When I’m finished with work tonight, I’ll go with you to get my mother-in-law."
"Huh?" Claire Sinclair thought she must have misheard.
Before she could confirm, he just said, "I’m busy now," and hung up.
’I couldn’t have misheard, could I?’
’Adrian Quincy said... he’d go with me tonight to get my mother-in-law... Did he really say *mother-in-law*?’
Fortunately, Claire Sinclair had a habit of recording her calls. After leaving Quincy Manor, she eagerly played back the recording to confirm she hadn’t misheard.
’Hahaha... Adrian Quincy is actually going to go with me to get Mom’s memorial tablet! I’m not dreaming—this is really happening!’
’This must be a blessing my sister earned for me. Thank you, Sis!’
...
After leaving Quincy Manor that day, Claire Sinclair returned home in a state of excitement. She tore through her closet, looking for a nice outfit to wear to her interview the next day.
She searched and searched, but she couldn’t find a single decent outfit.
Aside from the two casual outfits Adrian Quincy had given her, all that was left were old clothes from her college days. Some had holes, and others were yellowed from countless washes.
She had such high hopes for the interview tomorrow; she couldn’t show up in shabby, old clothes. But she couldn’t wear a casual outfit, either. It would leave a bad impression.
’Do I have to go buy new clothes?’
’Ugh, she dreaded shopping by herself. She really didn’t want to go.’
’Maybe I should wait until tonight, when Adrian Quincy and I go to my old home to get Mom’s tablet, and buy an outfit on the way?’
Good idea! 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
’That’s the plan.’
...
「That night.」
Claire Sinclair waited until eight in the evening, but the man still hadn’t come.
’She started to wonder if he was just stringing her along...’
Not wanting to let her mind run wild, she decided to send him a text: Mr. Quincy, are you almost finished?
A few minutes later, Adrian Quincy replied: You head over first. I’ll be there shortly.
’That was fine, too,’ she thought. ’It was a long way from Quincy Manor to the new house, and then to my old home. It would waste his time to come here first. Better to meet at my family’s house directly.’
Claire Sinclair slung her backpack over her shoulders, and as she walked out the door, she noticed a black sedan parked by the yard gate. She didn’t know when it had arrived.
As she approached the sedan, the window suddenly rolled down.
Aiden Howkins leaned out. "Young Madam," he said, "Young Master Quincy sent me to pick you up."
Claire Sinclair opened the door and slid into the back seat, asking casually, "Aiden, have you been waiting long?"
"Just got here."
"Oh..."
And with that, they lapsed into silence.
The car drove at a steady pace, and it took nearly half an hour to arrive at the Sinclair family home.
Claire Sinclair didn’t get out of the car immediately. She looked around, but there was no sign of Adrian Quincy, and she couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment.
