Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Leaving Someone to Die

Heh... The more anxious the little vixen became, the more delighted Claire felt.

’This moron... If she knew Adrian Quincy was the one who personally had that damned scumbag thrown in jail, she’d probably be furious enough to want me dead, wouldn’t she?’

’And she expects me to save that damned scumbag? Dream on!’

Claire refused flatly, "Don’t be so naive. My sister has been dead for two years. Quincy Manor cut all ties with her long ago. And you think you can just waltz in and meet the people in charge there whenever you want?"

Hearing what Claire said, Melanie finally realized she had no intention of helping and flew into a humiliated rage.

"Sister, Brother Linden is your boyfriend! He’s done so much for you. Are you really just going to watch him suffer and do nothing?"

’That’s right, I’m going to let him rot. So what?’

Claire’s voice turned to ice. "Melanie Sinclair, don’t use that tone with an elder. Also, Logan Linden is *my* boyfriend. Even if he were facing a firing squad tomorrow, it’s not your place to be concerned. Understand?"

With that, she unceremoniously hung up the phone.

She let out a long breath, and a wicked smirk spread across her lips.

’Now, let’s just see what this little vixen is going to do.’

...

「The Sinclair Residence.」

Suddenly hung up on, Melanie was so furious she nearly smashed her phone. She grabbed a pair of scissors and viciously started shredding a piece of clothing, cursing as she vented, "Damned bitch! To just stand by and do nothing... Bitch! Fucking bitch!"

’No, I can’t just let this go.’

’It was so hard to finally get Brother Linden for myself. We were just two million in compensation money away from finally making it official, and now things are different...’

Melanie caressed her flat stomach. She had originally planned to give Brother Linden a surprise on his birthday, but she never expected him to get into trouble so suddenly.

’For the sake of our child, I have to get Brother Linden out of there!’

’But what could she do?’

’Uncle Linden said Brother Linden offended some big shot in the government. But if Quinn Sinclair’s old boss is willing to step in, things could still be turned around.’

’That’s right, maybe that drunkard Peter Sinclair has a way...’

’Time to go for broke!’

Melanie gritted her teeth and finally dialed her mother’s number. "Mom, Brother Linden’s been arrested by the police! You have to find a way to save him, please?"

The moment Mrs. Lowell heard her mention that hussy’s boyfriend, she flew into a rage. "What does that hussy’s boyfriend getting into trouble have to do with you? Stop getting involved in all her damn messes."

Melanie whined, "Mom, just hear me out."

"Say what!"

"I’m pregnant."

"What?!" Mrs. Lowell, who was in the middle of getting her hair done at a salon, cried out in shock and instinctively shot upright in her chair, nearly causing the stylist to botch her haircut.

Melanie said meekly, "I’m pregnant. It’s Brother Linden’s child."

"Y-you... You let that good-for-nothing knock you up?"

Melanie cradled her stomach as if protecting the man himself. "Mom, Brother Linden isn’t a good-for-nothing. We’ve been dating for two years now. I’m the one Brother Linden loves, not Claire."

Mrs. Lowell took a deep breath and softened her tone. "Well, that Logan Linden isn’t a bad sort, and he can make good money. How many months along are you? Why didn’t you tell your mother sooner, so I could have helped you sort this out?"

"Almost a month. Mom, this isn’t the time for that. Please, you have to help me find a way to save Brother Linden!"

"The pregnancy is still in its early stages, so don’t tell anyone else about this yet. I’ll talk to your father later. He should know someone at Quincy Manor. We’ll have your dad bring over a little something, and that should do the trick."

"Okay, okay! Mom, I’m counting on you!"

Hearing a glimmer of hope, Melanie was ecstatic.

’Claire, did you really think I couldn’t save Brother Linden without you? Hmph!’
