Chapter 103: Too Little, Too Late

Brooke was stunned. She looked up from the ground where she had fallen, surprised that Brandon was there and he had pushed her away just to protect Lyse.

"Why are you trying to hit her?" He demanded, his face contorted with rage.

"How could you?" Brooke cried, her voice barely a whisper. "She is a liar, a manipulator. She has been playing you all along and you are going to defend her?"

Brandon rolled his eyes. "Spare me your theatrics, Brooke. Lyse is a good person. She’s been through a lot at your hand and i might have believed you before but I know better now."

With that, he turned his attention back to Lyse, who was watching the exchange with a mixture of surprise at Brandon standing up for her. He had always been inclined to believe other people over her, and she wondered about this shocking change in him.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice gentle and when he reached out for her, Lyse took a cautious step back.

She nodded, her voice calm. "I am fine, Thank you Brandon."

Brandon frowned at Lyse’s rejection but then, he smiled and said. "Good."

Brooke glared at Lyse angrily. She wanted to attack her for humiliating her but with Brandon standing guard over her, she knew there was nothing that she could do. She scrambled to her feet and stormed away from them, bitterness and the thirst for revenge filling her heart.

After Lyse watched Brooke leave, she also turned to leave and Brandon grabbed her hand, stopping her. She stopped and stared coldly at Brandon’s hand on her arm and he released her.

"I am so sorry about Brooke’s behavior," Brandon said, breaking the silence. "I can’t believe that she would do something like that."

Lyse stared at him, then said. "It’s okay Brandon, you don’t have to apologize on her behalf."

Brandon took her hand. "You know, I’ve been thinking. About us."

Lyse stared calmly at Brandon, her face expressionless as she waited for him to speak.

"I am still in love you, Lyse," Brandon confessed. "I know I messed up, but I want another chance. I want to make things right."

Lyse was floored by Brandon’s speech. She wondered briefly if he had hit is head or if he was delirious. Maybe he was ill, that would explain his presence in the hospital. She pulled her hand out of his hold.

"It is too bad that you are just realizing that, Brandon." she began, her voice firm and a little sarcastic. "I think you might have forgotten, but I am a married woman."

Brandon’s face heated up in anger and his voice rose. "Married to who? A man who is old enough to be your father?" he said, "But I can’t help how I feel. I still love you and I am the better choice for you."

"Too little too late." Lyse scoffed. "And I assure you, Levi is the better man. Brandon."

She turned away and walked briskly to the nurses station, leaving Brandon staring forlornly at her back.

Meanwhile, Brooke rushed to her mother, Lottie, who was waiting in the lobby and trying to get the officers to let her see Jeff.

Brooke pulled her to the side, "Lottie, you are not going to believe who I just saw," she exclaimed, her voice filled with venom. "Lyse was there, and with Brandon! They were acting like they were a couple."

Lottie’s ears perked up as she heard that Lyse was in the hospital, she must have heard about Jeff being ill and she had come to see him.

’I knew that stupid girl was not cold enough to really abandon her father.’

"That is a good thing, Brooke." Lottie said excitedly. "At least, with Lyse’s husband’s influence we will be able to see your father."

Brooke frowned, the annoyance all over her face. "Are you even listening to yourself?" She scoffed. "Brooke is here with Brandon and you are talking about seeing Dad."

Lottie’s expression turned stern as she glared at Brooke. "This is not the time to throw another tantrum, Brooke. What is important right now is your father’s health and well-being."

Brooke stared at Lottie with her mouth open. It felt like Lottie had turned away from her and was dedicating all her attention to Jeff. It left her feeling betrayed.

"Quick, tell me where you saw her." Lottie demanded.

"She was in front of emergency care." Brooke mumbled grumpily. In the next minute, Lottie had already rushed past her. Eager to find Lyse.

Brooke stared bitterly at Lottie’s back, it felt like Lyse was now enjoying everything that she had taken for granted and it made her to feel very bitter. She was not willing to let Lyse get away with enjoying her life so she thought up a new plan.

She picked up her phone and sent a text. First she would destroy Lyse’s happy home and then next, she would make her face the same humiliation and pain she felt when Brandon had roughly pushed her to the ground.

And for that, she would make use wsocial media. Brooke took to her phone and opened one of the many burner accounts she had been using to insult Lyse online.

Then, she began to craft a post.

"It is simply unbelievable that there are people who use the corruption perpetrated by their family members to rise to the top of society. Someone needs to ask @LyseTheDesigner why she has no pity for the families whose members were killed thanks to the gross negligence of her father who is now resting in Queen’s Cross Hospital. Maybe if we went to the hospital and demanded for justice, she and her family would take action and compensate everyone who has suffered thanks to them."

As she pressed send on the post, she felt a sense of satisfaction. She had finally found a way to get revenge on Lyse and this time, no one would know that it was her.

Knowing what was sure to come, Brooke scurried out of the hospital.
