The next day, Jiming Temple.

Lu Zheng and Shen Ying arrived hand in hand and were met at the door by Guang Yi.

"Master Guang Yi!"

Guang Yi clasped his hands in greeting, then turned sideways and gestured invitingly, respectfully saying, "Greetings to Young Master Lu and Madam Shen. Please, come inside!"

"Is my master and Master Hai Cheng here yet?"

"Master Hai Cheng has already arrived, as for your master..."

"I am here."

A cloud descended from the sky, landing directly at the gate of Jiming Temple. As the cloud dissipated, it revealed Daoist Mingzhang and Yuan Jing.

Guang Yi greeted them, "Greetings to Master Mingzhang and Daoist Yuan Jing!"

"Master Guang Yi!"

"Please, come inside!"

"Please!"

Lu Zheng held Shen Ying's hand, and together with Daoist Mingzhang, they walked through the gate and soon arrived at the Great Hero Hall.

They saw Master Guangyue seated cross-legged on the mat in the main hall, calm and with eyes closed, resting his spirit.

Mats were arranged on both sides of the hall, with the right side completely empty. On the second seat on the left side sat an elderly monk.

"This is Master Hai Cheng from Lanshan Temple," Guang Yi introduced and then arranged for Daoist Mingzhang to sit in the first seat on the left, and Lu Zheng in the third seat on the left.

"So formal?" Lu Zheng whispered to Yuan Jing, "Isn't debating just discussing Buddhist Dharma? Are we actually going to engage in magical combat?"

Yuan Jing was speechless, "During the debate, although magical power isn't used, Buddha Heart and Buddha Intent will clash in the Sea of Consciousness. The dangers are not less than in magical combat."

"I see!" Lu Zheng suddenly understood.

"Master Mingzhang!"

"Master Hai Cheng!"

Daoist Mingzhang and Master Hai Cheng knew each other, but Lu Zheng hadn't met him before. They were introduced to each other by Daoist Mingzhang.

However, this wasn't the time for a deep conversation; after brief pleasantries, everyone fell silent. Soon, clear, or sonorous, or profound voices filled their ears.

"Weitu from Great Glazed Temple, Shang Kun from Great Dragon Temple, and Hong Jue from Rashamon Temple, visit Jiming Temple. Request to see Host Guangyue!"

They're here! So soon!

Guangyue opened his eyes, a burst of radiant Buddha Light emanating from them, "Please!"

"Dong—Dong—Dong—"

The doors swung open and the bell tolled nine times.

As the ninth chime faded, three seemingly young monks arrived at the main entrance of the Great Hero Hall.

Guangyue rose and stepped forward to greet them.

"Greetings to Master Guangyue!"

Weitu from Great Glazed Temple stood in front, wearing white monk robes, with a handsome appearance and deep, pure eyes.

Shang Kun from Great Dragon Temple stood on the left, tall and upright, holding a Dragon-Slaying Staff, his eyes glinting with a hidden brilliance.

Hong Jue from Rashamon Temple stood on the right, clad in brown monk robes and draped in a red half-robe, holding a string of White Bone Buddhist Beads, looking slightly sinister.

"Greetings to the three of you!"

Guangyue clasped his hands and bowed, then turned, gesturing invitingly, "Please!"

"Please!"

The three entered the Great Hero Hall, as Lu Zheng and others naturally rose to greet them, as was customary.

After introductions, Weitu, Shang Kun, and Hong Jue sat to the right of Guangyue.

Guangyue first said, "You've traveled thousands of miles, brothers. It must have been tiring."

"The Great Jing is a land of outstanding people and fortunate geography; though tiring, it has been joyful," Weitu smiled and said.

"Amitabha Buddha!" Guangyue chanted, "Form is emptiness, emptiness is form."

Shang Kun chuckled, "Form does not differ from emptiness, emptiness does not differ from form."

Hong Jue continued, "All phenomena have form, all heavens have Buddhas, there is no need to see the Tathagata."

"You three have great cultivation!" Guangyue's eyes flashed with sharpness as he spoke.

Weitu smiled, "Amitabha Buddha, you misunderstand, brother."

Guangyue's eyes flashed with understanding, and he nodded, "Amitabha Buddha! Great illumination comes from the source of the great sun, revealing the emptiness of all five aggregates."

Weitu shook his head, "Only the body like glass is clear inside and out, so one can see the light."

Then the two began reciting passages of Buddhist scripture that were completely incomprehensible to Lu Zheng.

Lu Zheng: o((⊙﹏⊙))o.

He had intended to perhaps use well-known modern phrases like "It's not the flag moving, not the wind moving, it's the heart that moves," or "Originally there is not a single thing, so where can dust alight?" but now he decided to play dead instead.

Damn, he recognized every single character, but together they were incomprehensible. How could he pretend to understand? With his head?

He might as well play dead...

Lu Zheng shrunk back a bit, and Shen Ying whispered beside him, "What are they saying?"

Lu Zheng was speechless and could only whisper back, "I don't understand either!"

Shen Ying looked at Lu Zheng and smiled softly. It was his first time admitting he didn't understand, and he looked so perplexed, how adorable!

"There is Divine Soul fluctuation!"

Lu Zheng turned his head to see that as Guangyue and Weitu's conversation slowed, their spiritual fluctuations grew stronger.

"Guangyue's cultivation is not as high as Weitu's," Shen Ying whispered.

"But what they're comparing is Buddha Heart and Buddha Intent. Cultivation provides support but is not the deciding factor," Lu Zheng whispered back.

The debate involves exchanges through Buddha Heart, Buddha Intent, and understanding of scriptures, using words and spirit.

If it's benevolent, it's mutual progress.

If it's neutral, it's mutual exploration.

If it's malevolent, it's an attempt to destroy the other's beliefs and mindset.

Although Guangyue was not weak, his talent and understanding did not rank in the top three of his generation at Rizhao Temple, so he wasn't the face of the temple. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been allowed to host at Jiming Temple, and thus naturally was not on par with Weitu from Great Glazed Temple, who was sent to the Central Plains for scholarly exchange.

However, his Buddha Heart and Buddha Intent, his beliefs and mindset were not weaker; having been tempered by Lu Zheng's challenges for years, his foundation was solid, and his mindset stable. Now debating with Weitu, he surprisingly did not fall behind.

As Weitu and Guangyue debated, the expressions of Shang Kun and Hong Jue shifted from relaxed to serious; Guangyue's Buddhist Dharma indeed exceeded their expectations.

They knew that during their journey, they faced many new talents of the Central Plains Buddhism. While they had wins and losses, they generally prevailed over opponents of Guangyue's caliber.

Unexpectedly, even their strongest, Weitu, did not triumph over Guangyue.

"Amitabha Buddha!"

"Amitabha Buddha!"

Both Weitu and Guangyue chanted simultaneously, clasped their hands, and fell silent.

Shen Ying blinked and asked softly, "Who won?"

Lu Zheng blinked as well, "If I'm not mistaken... it was a draw."

"A draw?" Shen Ying's eyes twinkled, "That makes sense, their spirits are still steady."

"Brother Guangyue's Buddhist Dharma is profound. Weitu is most impressed," said Weitu.

"Brother Weitu's Pure Glaze Buddhism is flawless and immaculate, Guangyue is in awe," Guangyue replied with a clasped-hands greeting.

"Weitu bids farewell!"

"Please!"

Weitu stood up, followed by Shang Kun, Hong Jue, and Lu Zheng, who also rose.

After seeing the three monks out of the mountain gate and watching them leave, everyone returned to the Great Hero Hall.

Once back, Guangyue's eyes widened, and he stomped his foot, "Amitaga-to-Buddha! Debating is so exhausting, it'd be better just to fight it out!"
