I Have A Dual World Seal-Chapter 599: The Origin of the Brewer
Perhaps knowing he doesn't look good, the man bent his body slightly to appear less threatening. However, the smile on his face was quite forced, indicating that he seldom smiles normally.
"Are the two of you here to buy wine?" the man asked blandly, without any enthusiasm.
"How do you sell your wine?" Lu Zheng took the initiative to ask.
"I have three types of wine: One Mile Fragrance at ten cents per jin, Shili Fragrance at thirty cents per jin, and Hundred Miles Fragrance at eighty cents per jin."
The names were quite simple. One Mile Fragrance was priced like ordinary wine, a bit more expensive than the lowest grade village brew, and even though Hundred Miles Fragrance had an impressive name, it was cheaper than the fine wine in the large restaurants.
"May this old man have a taste?" Qi Fengyun asked with a cheerful smile.
"Sure," the man nodded, picking up a small three-jin jar from the table and a bowl.
Lu Zheng looked at the table and saw two similar wine jars; perhaps they were meant for customers to taste?
The man poured half a bowl of wine and handed it to Qi Fengyun, "This is One Mile Fragrance."
Lu Zheng glanced at it, noticing the wine was cloudy, the aroma weak, and it had a slightly sour smell; it was typical low-end wine of the Great Jing Dynasty.
Nevertheless, Qi Fengyun didn't mind and drank it in one gulp, smacking his lips, "Not bad, less sour than village brew, quite thirst-quenching."
"This is Shili Fragrance."
"Hmm, it's quite good already. The fine wines in regular restaurants are usually at this level."
"This is Hundred Miles Fragrance."
"Oh my, don't say this old man is inexperienced. Your wine is only eighty cents per jin, such good wine would sell for two hundred cents in big restaurants."
Lu Zheng looked at the man, then at Qi Fengyun, and finally at the wine, shaking his head secretly.
The man shook his head, speaking blandly, "Brewed at home, not sold that expensively. If the old gentleman finds it good, you can buy more."
"You're an honest man. Indeed, I should buy more of it. Just give me one hundred jin of this Hundred Miles Fragrance, do you have that much?"
The man nodded, "I do, twenty-jin jars, a total of five jars. Where are you staying, I'll deliver it to you."
"I'm not a local, just visiting old friends here. Deliver it to Tongfu Inn and say it's for the guest in Room 3 on the fifth floor," Qi Fengyun smiled, "We want to take a stroll."
"Alright!"
The man nodded in agreement and pushed a wheelbarrow out from behind the door, stopping it at the entrance.
Then, he placed five jars, each weighing twenty jin, on the cart.
"Eighty coins, please."
Lu Zheng took out a bunch of treasure notes from his chest, counted a five-thousand-coin note and three one-thousand-coin notes, and handed them to the man.
The man accepted the money and was about to push the cart out when two people approached from not far away, one walking in front and the other pushing an empty cart.
"Shopkeeper Meng, I'm here to buy wine again. Please give me ten jars of your Hundred Miles Fragrance."
The person in the lead shouted, then caught sight of Lu Zheng, his expression changed dramatically with surprise, and he hurriedly took a few steps forward, respectfully saluting, "Young Master Lu!"
Seeing the newcomer, Lu Zheng felt a bit flustered. He quickly cupped his hand, shifting the topic, "Young Master Lin, are you also here to buy wine? It seems the wine from this shop is quite remarkable."
The visitor was Lin Zhijing of the Wanfu County's prominent Lin family.
The Lin Family, where Liu Qingyan's childhood friend Xiao Yuzhen married the second young master Lin Zhidong; the patriarch is Lin Kongzhu, and Lin Zhijing is the eldest young master.
Their second young master Lin Zhidong once mocked Lu Zheng, but that very night, he had his Yang Qi absorbed by the Big-headed Ghost Infant, causing trouble for the Lin Family.
Liu Qingyan and Lu Zheng intervened to resolve the situation, sparing dozens of lives within the Lin Family due to Lin Kongzhu's sensible actions and Xiao Yuzhen's ties with Liu Qingyan.
Since then, the Lin Family has strictly disciplined Lin Zhidong and treated Xiao Yuzhen like family, avoiding further troubles, and Lu Zheng and Liu Qingyan weren't involved with them during subsequent visits to Wanfu County.
So Lu Zheng almost forgot about them, never expecting such an encounter under these circumstances.
Damn! They know my identity and abilities, better not let anything slip, the person beside might be a Thousand-Year-old Great Demon!
Lu Zheng panicked but forced himself to calm down and changed the subject.
"Indeed!" Lin Zhijing nodded repeatedly, "Shopkeeper Meng's wine-making skills are unmatched; even the good wine in Wanfu Restaurant is not as good as the Hundred Miles Fragrance."
Lin Zhidong is a wastrel, but Lin Zhijing is steady in character; he naturally wouldn't spread Lu Zheng's identity all over, only showing great respect without saying anything improper.
"Shopkeeper Meng?"
"Alright." Meng Shopkeeper nodded, first parked the wheelbarrow to one side, then started loading the wine on the cart brought by Lin Zhijing.
Beside them, Lin Zhijing looked at Lu Zheng, then at Qi Fengyun, asking, "Who is this gentleman?"
Lu Zheng introduced, "This is an elder from my family, visiting friends happened to pass by Wanfu County and took a stroll into here."
"I see." Lin Zhijing quickly saluted and invited, "As the saying goes, such pleasant encounters are even better than arranged invitations. If you two have no engagements, why not visit the Lin Family for some wine? The siblings at home also care about my wife."
Lu Zheng was about to shake his head when Shopkeeper Meng and Lin Zhijing's driver finished loading ten jars of Hundred Miles Fragrance onto the cart.
"Thank you, Shopkeeper Meng. You truly live up to the legacy of the Wine Immortal Tower!" Lin Zhijing thanked earnestly.
Shopkeeper Meng simply waved his hand, glancing casually at Lu Zheng and Qi Fengyun, speaking indifferently, "Just an unworthy disciple, as long as I don't disgrace my master, Young Master Lin, please don't spread this around."
"Of course, of course," Lin Zhijing agreed, then looked at Lu Zheng and Qi Fengyun again.
Qi Fengyun nodded, "Are we not inconveniencing the Lin family?"
"Not at all, Young Master Lu is a benefactor to my family. It would be an honor for the Lin Family to host a meal."
"How is the second young master doing lately?" Lu Zheng interrupted Lin Zhijing.
"Thanks to Young Master's blessing, my younger brother has become more sensible over the past two years. He even passed the Scholar exam last year, having learned some principles, and no longer acts recklessly." Lin Zhijing smiled.
Lu Zheng nodded, as the group left the alley. Watching Shopkeeper Meng push the cart towards Tongfu Inn, Lu Zheng and another headed northeast towards the Lin Family Mansion with Lin Zhijing.
"By the way, you mentioned the Wine Immortal Tower?" Lu Zheng quickly asked.
"In Yinan Dao Yangzhou, there is a famous Wine Immortal Tower, renowned for wine brewing as Imperial tribute; it's famed due to the Wine Immortal inscription followed by a cloud soaring."
Lin Zhijing explained, "This Shopkeeper Meng probably worked at Wine Immortal Tower; this Hundred Miles Fragrance is actually Wine Immortal Tower's Jade Flowing Juice.
I once traveled to Yangzhou Prefecture with my family's caravan, hence recognized the wine."
"Ah..."
Lu Zheng was taken aback, exchanging a glance with Qi Fengyun. Could this brewer not be the Wolf Demon Leng Li after all?
