I hacked through the chaotic world with my blade-Chapter 1346 - 321: The Way to Overcome Fear Is to Become Fear Myself
As he spoke these words.
He was prepared for the other party not to respond.
Just as he anticipated, the survivor sitting in the barber chair remained expressionless, with a vacant stare and a hint of panic.
"It’s okay, if you don’t want to talk, you don’t have to for now. Just take your time, I understand your situation."
Despite him being human, living like an animal, it was evident how harsh the environment he experienced was, and how his spirit’s collapse under such circumstances was entirely normal.
He opened several bottles of mineral water, poured them into a basin, soaked a towel in it, and came in front of him.
"Don’t worry, I’ll clean the dirt off your face."
Lin Fan wiped gently, without using any force, afraid of hurting him. The clean towel quickly became dirty, having to be changed and washed three or four times, finally with the survivor’s face all cleaned.
A very young male face, aside from a few scratches, everything was fine.
Lin Fan didn’t say much, trimming the survivor’s hair. With the power out, the hairdryer was useless, so he waved his hand, forming a wind much stronger than any hairdryer.
"Follow me."
The now calmer survivor acted like a puppet on strings, letting Lin Fan lead him, going wherever Lin Fan thought.
Lin Fan took him to an abandoned clothing store and picked a casual outfit.
The clothes were not yet given for him to wear, instead took him to the riverside, asking him to remove his dirty clothes. The survivor stood there like a log.
Faced with this situation, Lin could only do it himself, removing the clothes and using the river water to clean his body which smelled after months of no bathing.
Until now, he’d only bathed Officer Huang and Mengmeng; this survivor was the third.
Soon, after tidying him up and putting on fresh clothes, the survivor looked completely renewed except for his still blank expression.
"He’s not suitable to be taken back to Sunshine Shelter now."
Lin Fan pondered on solutions, given the survivor’s state, a psychologist would struggle to help him, and it was best to let him gradually recover first.
Then suddenly.
He thought of a way.
That was to take him around familiar parts of the city, relaxing, which might ease his fearful heart.
In the desolate streets of Mingshan City.
Lin Fan casually walked around with him, visiting landmark buildings, knowing the survivor was a local.
Whenever they saw a grand building, Lin Fan would ask about its history.
Though the survivor didn’t answer, Lin Fan patiently led him along, knowing recovering someone in a state of fear isn’t easy.
It takes a lot of patience.
And patience was what Lin Fan has in abundance, believing that helping someone in despair find hope again is worthwhile.
Time passed quickly.
It was noon.
The survivor still hadn’t spoken, acted like a puppet, Lin Fan led him to a store, opened a bag of bread for him, the survivor began devouring it ravenously.
"Slow down, don’t worry, there’s plenty of food."
Seeing him eat was a good sign, as refusal to eat or drink would complicate matters greatly.
After casually eating.
Lin Fan carried on strolling through the city with him, buildings now rusty and dilapidated but still hinted at their former days.
Time passed quickly.
Even if there wasn’t much change in the survivor.
Lin Fan never showed signs of impatience.
The evening sunset was beautiful.
Passing by a building, Lin Fan noticed the survivor stationary, head raised, staring blankly; he followed his gaze to the unassuming building.
Before Lin Fan spoke.
The dazed survivor slowly said, "This was where I worked before, my first job was here."
Lin Fan said, "It looks like a nice place."
"Yes, I really liked it here."
"Who doesn’t like their workplace? Like my old design job, even though my boss often promised the moon, we still loved the perks."
Seeing the survivor willing to speak, Lin Fan knew it was a good start; he wasn’t broken mentally but had shut down from fear.
Thud!
Suddenly, the survivor kneeled, hands covering his face, emotions bursting out with a sob.
"I’m so scared, truly terrified, I don’t know how I escaped, hiding in the mountains, every day in fear of being found by zombies, I’m really scared."
Keeping fear inside easily leads to problems, only through expressing it can one return to normal, so seeing him release those emotions was truly great.
"Don’t be afraid, I’m here with you."
Lin Fan knelt in front of him, gently gripping his shoulders and spoke warmly.
"I’m really scared."
The survivor didn’t improve despite Lin Fan’s comfort, the zombies left deep-seated terror, unimaginable pressure on his mind.
