I Got Reincarnated as a Zombie Girl-Chapter 395 - 391 – Wings That Threaten the Sky
The next morning, the faint golden light that still lingered from Sofia’s evolution the day before continued to blanket all of Nocture like sacred dew that refused to fade. The thin black mist outside the castle now felt lighter, almost transparent, as if the city itself was breathing a sigh of relief after a night filled with miracles. The fusion sun, usually dim behind gray clouds, now slipped through a little brighter, illuminating the gently swaying treant leaves and the black roses blooming thicker than ever. The air felt fresh, overflowing with abundant life energy. Every gust of wind carried the scent of spring flowers blended with the rich aroma of black roses, an odd yet beautiful combination, like a new symbol of the queen and her companion.
Sylvia woke first. Her red eyes opened slowly on the black silk bed now bathed in soft golden light. Sofia was still asleep in her arms, her naked body glowing white-gold, covered by Sylvia’s wide black mantle. Her extremely long golden hair spilled across the pillow like a river of molten gold. The ten angel wings on her back were neatly folded, their golden feathers gently rising and falling with her calm breathing. Noir curled at the foot of the bed, his jet-black scales faintly shimmering, as if he too was guarding this peaceful moment.
Sylvia gazed at Sofia’s face for a long time. Her cold fingers gently brushed the now-warm cheek.
"You truly came back... even more perfect," she whispered, her voice filled with deep admiration.
Sofia stirred softly. Her golden eyes opened slowly. The same spoiled smile from before appeared on her lips, but now it held a new light stronger, holier.
"Morning, my queen," she murmured hoarsely, then immediately hugged Sylvia tighter. Her ten wings spread slightly, as if wanting to wrap them both once more.
They were in no hurry to rise. They simply lay in each other’s warm embrace, whispering about the previous night the pulse of the cocoon she had felt, how Sylvia had gone an entire month without sleep just to watch over her. But when Noir growled softly, demanding food, they both chuckled and decided to leave the room that had been locked for a full month.
The queen’s chamber door opened slowly with a heavy, dramatic creak. Sylvia stepped out first, her black mantle sweeping across the obsidian floor, the Chain of Abyss on her wrist silent and still. Behind her, Sofia walked gracefully, now wearing the simple cream-gold dress Celes had quietly prepared in front of the door. Her ten golden wings remained neatly folded, yet they still radiated an unmistakable holy light. Her extremely long golden hair cascaded all the way to the floor, shimmering like liquid gold beneath the corridor’s candlelight.
The moment they appeared in the main corridor, footsteps and the sound of small bells rang out. Stacia, Alicia, Celes, and Aurellia were already waiting at the far end, their faces filled with undisguised relief and joy.
Stacia ran forward first, her ash-gray hair messy, the novel in her hand dropping to the floor.
"Sofia!! You’re finally out!" She threw her arms around Sofia tightly, the blood-red flames at her fingertips flickering from emotion. "Ten wings?! I got goosebumps just looking at them! Congratulations! You’re more beautiful than any goddess now!"
Alicia approached with calm steps, though her sharp eyes glistened with tears.
"Miss Sofia... congratulations on your evolution. All of Nocture felt your energy yesterday. The entire perimeter trembled with joy." She bowed respectfully, then offered a rare, faint smile. "You made our queen go a whole month without sleep. Thank you... for returning safely."
Celes strolled over casually.
"Sofia~! Your wings are gorgeous! Your life energy made the plants grow like crazy! I’ve already prepared a special tea to celebrate! Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations!!"
Aurellia stood at the back with a gentle smile, traces of ink still on her fingers.
"All the documents are finished thanks to your energy. Congratulations, Miss Sofia. You are a new blessing for Nocture."
Sofia laughed softly, her cheeks blushing slightly even though she was now a ten-winged angel.
"Thank you... all of you. I felt you protecting Nocture while I... slept for so long. And thank you for protecting Sylvia too."
They all laughed lightly. The cold castle corridor suddenly felt warm and full of happiness. Noir growled contentedly on Sylvia’s shoulder, as if joining the celebration. Sylvia stood quietly, holding Sofia’s hand tightly, a small, rare smile on her lips, one full of pride.
But the beautiful calm did not last long.
Suddenly, the sky above Nocture shook violently.
The air grew heavy. The light black mist rolled wildly. A blinding holy white light exploded in the sky, tearing the gray clouds apart like a ripped curtain. Dozens nearly a hundred angels burst dramatically from a dimensional rift of light. Their wings flapped powerfully, ranging from two to eight wings, all pure white and radiating strong holy auras. They hovered above the city in perfect battle formation, their faces filled with confusion and barely contained rage.
"Angel evolution energy detected here!" roared an eight-winged angel at the front, his voice booming like holy thunder. "These must be our comrades held captive by the Queen of Death! This city of darkness dares to touch our holy light!"
The other angels shouted as well, their wings beating harder.
"Attack! Free our brothers and sisters! The Queen of Death must be torturing them!"
The city tensed instantly. Nocture’s residents panicked and ran into their homes. Giant treants swayed uneasily. Alicia’s perimeter spirits rose from the shadows. Stacia raised her hand, blood-red flames blazing fiercely. Alicia lifted her sword, eyes glowing sharply.
But before anyone could move, Sofia had already stepped forward.
With a single flap of her wings, she soared into the sky of Nocture in an instant. Her ten golden wings spread fully, radiating holy golden light like a small sun descending to earth. Her long golden hair flew in the wind, her golden eyes shining brightly. The aura of the highest-ranked angel pressed down on the entire sky with overwhelming force.
The angels froze in mid-air. Their wings trembled violently. Their faces turned pale.
Sofia stopped right in front of their formation. Her voice was soft yet cold and commanding, like a cracked crystal bell.
"Go. If you wish to live."
The simple words carried the pressure of her ten wings, making the air itself vibrate. The angels from two to eight wings felt their knees weaken. Their holy light dimmed instantly. They exchanged confused glances, eyes wide.
"Who... who are you?!" shouted the eight-winged angel, his voice shaking. "This evolution energy... you evolved here?! But this is the Queen of Death’s city! You must be a prisoner forced..."
Sofia stared at them with cold golden eyes.
"I am Sofia. Companion of the Queen of Death. And I am not a prisoner. I chose to be here." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Confusion turned to shock. Then one six-winged angel whispered fearfully,
"That... that’s not a pure angel like us. Look at her aura... she was born human. She’s a human girl who received angel blood! She’s... an enemy! Not our sister!"
The realization spread like wildfire. Their faces twisted from confusion to fury. Some raised swords of light, wings ready to strike.
"Traitor! You betrayed the holy light! We will..."
But they could not move.
The pressure from Sofia’s ten wings was too overwhelming. The superior angel aura crushed them like a falling mountain. Their bodies shook violently, wings nearly paralyzed, holy light flickering out one by one. Even taking a single step forward felt impossible.
The eight-winged angel at the front finally gritted his teeth, face deathly pale.
"We... we retreat! Report this to the highest Archangel! This is far bigger than we thought!"
With one weak flap, the entire angel army fled back into the light dimensional rift, faces filled with fear and suppressed rage. The sky grew calm once more. Their pillars of holy light vanished, leaving only a cold wind carrying the scent of black roses.
Sofia descended slowly, her ten wings folding again. She landed on the castle balcony beside Sylvia and let out a long, heavy sigh. Her beautiful face now looked slightly somber.
"It seems... this won’t end here," she murmured. "They’ll come back with stronger forces. Archangels... maybe even Seraphim."
Sylvia gazed at the sky, now once again veiled in black mist, and squeezed Sofia’s hand tightly. Her red eyes were cold, but a faint smile curved her lips.
"No problem," she said calmly, her voice filled with unshakable confidence. "Nocture is strong enough now. We have Stacia, Alicia, Celes, Aurellia... and you. Let them come as many as they want. We will welcome them... as always."
Sofia turned. Her golden eyes met Sylvia’s red ones. Her smile returned, brighter this time.
"You’re right... we’re ready."
Down below, Stacia laughed loudly while igniting flames in her hands. Alicia gave a firm nod. The giant treants swayed gently, as if in agreement. The small detached branches once again plopped down cheerfully.
