I Got A Title: Lord Of The Time!-Chapter 46: Reflection
Chapter 46: Reflection
In an almost completely dark space, a small human figure lay motionless, occasionally twitching, until suddenly, violet eyes snapped open and stared at the dark ceiling.
"Where am I?" The obvious question appeared in Lin’s mind. He tried to sit up slightly, but his body refused to obey him, not allowing even the slightest movement.
"What the..."
He managed to lift his head slightly — fortunately, he could still do that — and looked down at his body, seeing it covered in countless insects that had turned his clothes into a new home.
Lin saw every possible type of insect, ones he’d only ever seen on his phone, now completely surrounding his body and treating it as their new habitat. Among the insect family were large black-and-red spiders, long centipedes with crimson armor, strange beetles with massive legs, and countless ants forming highways across his body.
Lin quickly frowned and activated his status screen to check whether he was okay or not:
[Status:
— Physical health: 68%
— Mental health: 80%
— Distortion: 67%]
"67%!" Lin reacted instantly upon seeing the Distortion. He used all his strength and slowly managed to lift his right arm, shaking off as many insects as he could.
"Damn... Looks like some of them bit me and almost managed to paralyze my body..." He slowly raised his left arm and pushed himself up a bit. "It would’ve been terrible to die without even realizing it."
He brushed off the remaining insects and looked around.
He was in an almost completely dark space, filled with dampness. Moisture was everywhere, as if the place was regularly washed by water — yet there was no water in sight.
"Is this some kind of cave?"
"After entering the portal, I ended up in a dark cave... Just my luck," Lin slowly stood up and picked up the sheath and katana lying beside him. "At least the katana’s still here."
He stretched out. Every part of his body felt like it was in terrible shape. There were holes everywhere from insect bites, and his health was in a "special" condition. He didn’t know for sure, but it was possible that countless insect larvae were crawling inside him, slowly eating him alive...
He hoped not...
"Since I’m in a cave, it’ll be hard to tell what day it is... I could’ve been lying here for a day... days... weeks... or even months..." he sighed.
"Either way, I need to find a way out of this cave. Once I’m out, I can at least estimate how long I’ve been in the Magic World."
Lin made up his mind and began walking in a random direction. His field of vision was extremely limited, forcing him to move practically blind. Unfortunately, he didn’t have any skill to produce even a small amount of light to see properly.
Surrounded by total darkness and silence, any other person in this situation might have gone insane, but Lin kept walking forward, ignoring both the silence and the darkness.
His slow footsteps were the only sound echoing through the place.
Tap... Tap... Tap... Tap...
"What a suffocating atmosphere... If I were someone else, I would’ve probably frozen in place, too afraid to take a single step. But luckily, I’m not like that..."
"As long as I’m alive and capable of rational thought, I can endure places like this. Especially when I have a life goal I haven’t fulfilled yet." Lin calmly looked at the abyss-like darkness and continued, "While I gaze into the abyss, it gazes back into me. Revenge — that’s what I desire most, and I will pursue it with everything I’ve got."
Lin chuckled slightly and went on:
"Ha-ha. When you think about it, the Matrix family had so many chances to kill me, but they didn’t... Of course, this could be explained by the fact that I’ve gained significant value to them, and they don’t want to eliminate me because they believe I might grow into something useful — something they need. And they’ve been waiting for that for sixteen years."
"Seems like that could be one of the truths. They need me. They see a promising teen in me who could grow into something powerful, because everything I have now — I earned through my own effort. But..." Lin’s gaze sharpened like a blade. "Do they understand the hatred I feel for them? Maybe they see it as teenage angst and think I’ll forget everything once I’m older. But all their actions led to my suffering!"
Lowering his gaze, Lin continued walking and muttered aloud:
"I suffered... The first ten years of my life were wonderful. I lived with my parents. I made friends at school. I was a happy little kid... But then, one day, everything changed. I suffered on the streets. I wanted to see another sunrise, but I was under so much pressure I couldn’t even lift my head to look at it. And then Ilan with his brutal fights..."
"I suffered for most of my life, and still I managed to get back up and keep moving, just so I could," Lin lifted his tired eyes and said, "feel the happiness I once had."
"And family — that was the happiness I had... I thought once I escaped the hell of those fights, I’d be able to return to my parents and live the normal life of a regular teenager. But they turned out to be dead."
As he continued through the utterly dark space, Lin suddenly stopped and slowly closed his eyes, visualizing the faces of Sin — his beautiful black-haired, violet-eyed mother — and Glan — his kind father who always answered his questions with great gentleness...
"What is dead cannot return... Though I am the Lord of the Time. But I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to manipulate time on such a scale to travel to the past... And if I change the past, wouldn’t that also change the future? Either way, everything depends on power."
Lin sighed and kept walking.
"Power, power, power — it’s all that matters. To carry out revenge and have a chance at resurrection, I need power. And right now, I have very little of it."
"I need more power."
...
Lin kept walking through the dark cave. He didn’t know how much time had passed, what had happened to Egro and the others, and he didn’t really care. He simply continued quietly through the abyss, until suddenly he heard the sound of water — like thunder in a silent sky.
A smile immediately appeared on Lin’s face, and he eagerly moved toward the sound of water, as it indicated the presence of fresh water — and possibly an exit, if the waters led to the surface.
He saw a blue glow ahead and shielded his eyes slightly from the first light since arriving in the Magic World. He moved faster, and when he reached the glowing area, he found a large lake surrounded by glowing blue flowers or mushrooms, gently lighting up the space.
Lin smiled and walked toward it. freёwebnoѵel.com
