Chapter 77: Shopping Frenzy with Savings

The motorcycle felt like a toy for some reason.

Maybe it was the difference of changing his race partially or his experience in high speed sprints or hunting with monsters.

But speed lost all it’s meaning to him.

He was still being careful for suddenly showing things but it was protect the motorcycle not himself. Also from time to time, he would feel like using a machine for speed was wrong. He felt the need of using his body to go-anywhere.

It was an absurd thinking but his new instincts were screaming him to never trust a machine and run by himself with much faster speed.

Maybe he was too used to being inside a forest.

At least, it is manageable now.

After his fight with Rosa half an hour ago, he somehow learned how to turn off all the passive skill effects or stat effects. Or this trip to show would be a nightmare. People would be under his charm or charisma and he wasn’t in a erotic fantasy mood to charm his poor neighbors.

Rosa’s voice killed all the tiny experimentation mood he had while coming this side. Charming strangers had to wait for another day.

His eyes focused on the inner voices of his cheap bike and heard horrifying noises from inside.

I’m glad I couldn’t hear the engine before.

Eren used to ride this thing for a lot of everything. And he looked weird on the top of this feminine bike. It was the cheapest option for obvious reasons.

He looked hunched forward with both hands tight on the handles because he was always scared about getting clipped by a taxi in the past.

Now....

Hahaha

He was like a juggernaut on this poor thing. He could probably crush it without hurting his fingers!

Eren sat on it like a grown man on a children’s bicycle. His knees were too high and his weight made the suspension sag and every bump on the road felt like nothing.

He had to go three stores in ninety or so minutes.

The hardware store came first. Rope, nails, thick metal brackets and two survival knives that the clerk tried to upsell by demonstrating the edge on a piece of cardboard.

Eren didn’t tell him that his wife’s katana could cut through troll bone and these knives were basically butter knives in comparison.

"You do a lot of outdoor work?" The clerkish man was staring at Eren’s arms poking out of the jacket sleeves. His father’s jacket was big enough for his torso but the sleeves stopped before his wrists and showed too much already.

"Something like that." He didn’t want to make a mistake by saying something weird.

Eren also grabbed ten meters of climbing rope, two camping flashlights and a lantern that ran on batteries. The lantern was expensive but Emily would probably react to it the same way she reacted to the lighter. It would shock her. Last but the most expensive thing was a sun panel implemented battery station.

It sounded cool and it was expensive but the damn thing looked like an old camp radio. It even had two giant ass flashlights on different sides. It could work as a charging station for the phones or electronic-usb lighters and all other things. It has a few different cable and charging options.

But again, it was too expensive for his minuscule budget. He had 20K in his account and this was 3k by itself.

He hoped this would worth it made their life in the village a lot easier.

The pharmacy was next. Painkillers, antiseptic spray, wound dressings, a basic first aid kit and two pregnancy test kits because he wanted to see what an Earth test would say about an elven pregnancy.

The pharmacist was a man but he looked like a easygoing good man and gave him that soft encouraging look with the pregnancy tests. "Congratulations."

"Thanks." Eren smiled softly but didn’t explain that the mother was an elf in another universe. Duh..

He grabbed extra antibiotics, hydrogen peroxide and a bottle of prenatal vitamins. Emily’s "warriors don’t die from the blade, they die from what comes after" monologue that she probably stolen from her mother, had been running through his head since they made that list.

Last stop was the bulk market. It was similar to the Hardware store but less fancy and a lot chaotic. He used to go to work with a bus from a bus stop aroun this block. So Eren always looked this place’s insides in the early chilling mornings.

He never got inside because it was never open at 6:30 am.

This was gonna be exciting for his personal expectations. He walked through the aisles pushing a cart that looked ridiculous next to his giant body and loaded it with batteries, twenty lighters for the mana stone experiment, camp matches (he didn’t know how different these from regular ones) as backup, a box of candles, small explosive kid firecrackers. Lastly he went to the farm section.

"Fifty kilos of that salt please."

He couldn’t find anything bigger here. He knew restaurants bought their supplies with even bigger amounts but he didn’t know how or had time for that. This would hopefully help the immediate need in the village then he would look for a more permanent solution.

"Ah, do you have that small water purifiers." He became happy too quickly.

One small 10 liters worth of Water Purifier was 7k! 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Are you bunch of thiefs? I thought this place was suppose to be the cheapest place possible!!

The woman behind the counter got his salt in a thick outside urgan layer but left it on the small transport vehicle.

"Where is your vehicle?"

"Its that black motorcycle. You can leave on the ground."

She looked at him like he was crazy because that motorcycle didn’t have any open wide place to carry things.

Eren didn’t give a damn about the woman anymore and grabbed toiletries, a few large t-shirts for himself that actually high quality. If he knew they sold this type of t-shirts, he would come here years ago.

He got some colorful scarves and small accessories that he thought the elf women in the village might like as gifts, and then realized he was spending money he technically didn’t have anymore since he hadn’t worked in a month.

His savings account was going to take a serious hit today.

He once again wished this would be all worth the trouble.

He carried all fifty kilos of salt in one hand to the motorbike and strapped the bags down with a bungee cord his father gave him last year.

Two giant backpacks on the back seat, plastic bags hanging from both handles. The motorbike groaned under everything. Eren carried the salt in his bossom and it was a lot easier that he imagined.

Some guy waiting at the bus stop watched Eren load up and his jaw was hanging open a little. A two-meter guy on a tiny motorbike with what looked like a survival kit for an entire village strapped to every available surface.

If Emily could see this... She’d probably want one. A motorbike in Evon.

He rode home, unloaded everything into the bedroom and took a quick inventory. The floor looked like a disaster relief supply dump. But it was everything on Emily’s list plus his own additions.

He could carry all of it in one trip.

His body didn’t care about weight anymore. Seventy kilos of supplies was warm-up weight for system stats around 50s.

..

The bus to his grandmother’s village took about forty minutes with a few stops in between. It was the last ride on the night but was too crowded. This was the last chance of people going far away villages but Eren didn’t expect this many people would be on the small van.

He took a window seat in the back and spent most of the ride staring outside.

The city gave way to suburbs which gave way to fields and then the smaller roads leading into village territory.

He noticed some random things his old eyes wouldn’t have caught.

A bird sitting on a power line three hundred meters away in the night view, its feathers ruffled by wind.

Two field workers coming back from who know how long shift from a distant field. Their faces was clear enough to read their expressions.

A cat on a rooftop almost quarter of a kilometer ahead, grooming itself.

His half-elf perception was ridiculous on Earth. In Evon there were creatures faster than him, stronger than him, with better senses. Here he was basically cheating at being human with his passive wolf eye skill.

His parents were staying at his grandmother’s house to help with her cancer treatment. According to the doctors, it was a lost cause and she needed the comfort of her own home.

Grandma Sofie was ninety-one and the doctors gave her a timeline that nobody in the family liked to talk about. His mother-Jane and father-Can had moved in months ago to help her.

The house was old, stone-walled, with chickens in the yard and a garden full of tomatoes and peppers that his grandmother refused to let anyone else tend.

Eren really missed this place..
