Chapter 90: Chapter 88: Slice Off His Flesh and Feed It to the Dogs

’Better not waste any more time.’

Once in the car, Mia Grant breathed a sigh of relief.

That sentence was undoubtedly a message for Yael Donovan. In Portia, let alone the current project bid, Yael would have no more opportunities in the future.

As long as he, Silas Grant, was alive, the winning company would never be the Donovan Family.

It was a brutal show of force.

Especially at the end. Yael Donovan had probably instructed his assistant beforehand to gloss things over if the situation escalated.

He likely planned to claim that he, Yael Donovan, had been her rescuer tonight.

But thankfully, he was cut off.

"Was that really my brother’s intention?" Mia Grant couldn’t help but ask.

In the passenger seat, the man who had just backed her up nodded, his face cold. "Yes, Miss."

"Mr. Grant will investigate the details and the truth of the matter himself."

"Even if the investigation turns up nothing, he still has you. Whatever you say, goes. It’s not their place to spout nonsense."

As he spoke, he glanced back at Mia Grant and said, "Mr. Grant is waiting for news from you. You should probably give him a call back."

Mia Grant snapped out of her daze and agreed.

Yael Donovan’s assistant had returned her phone right as she was leaving.

Her phone was already dead, so Mia Grant borrowed one of their phones to call Silas Grant.

The call connected, but for a moment, neither person spoke.

Silas Grant was waiting for a report from his subordinate. After a brief silence, he heard a faint breath from the other end, then a soft voice calling his name. "Brother?"

On his end of the line, the man’s eyes lifted slightly. The hand tapping an erratic rhythm on his knee stopped.

He held his breath for a second, his chest rising and falling heavily once.

"Are you okay?"

The man’s usual easygoing tone was gone, replaced by a soft whisper, his voice almost breathy as if afraid of startling her. "Did they scare our Mia?"

For no reason at all, Mia Grant’s eyes stung.

Her voice trembled, on the verge of tears as she asked him, "Brother, when are you coming back?"

’It’s not convenient to talk over the phone. When he gets back, I have to explain everything clearly.’

’The Hughes Family... Mr. Hughes wants to kill me.’

She could go to Yates Donovan or Kian Keller for protection, but that wouldn’t solve the fundamental problem.

If she wanted to eradicate the threat completely, her only hope was Silas Grant.

He was the only one who could stand up to Mr. Hughes.

Silas Grant was indeed tied up. A pile of corporate matters awaited him, and he also had to accompany Mr. Hughes for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

He wouldn’t be back until after the festival.

Hearing her voice, he could tell she must have been through a terrible ordeal.

"Mia, how about I have someone bring you to Portia?" ’It would be better to have her by my side.’ 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"..." Mia Grant suddenly felt like she had shot herself in the foot.

"N-No, that’s okay. I don’t really want to travel far right now. I’ll just wait for you to come back home."

She was very resistant to the idea of Portia. Silas noticed.

He remembered clearly that when he first suggested bringing her to live in Portia, her expression and tone had been full of excitement.

But now...

’I wonder if it’s because of those few eyesores who are always around her.’

"You don’t want to spend the Mid-Autumn Festival with your brother?"

"I do. But you should stay with Grandpa first, he’s getting old, after all. It’s not good for him to be there alone. I won’t go and be a bother."

"Besides, it’s just one Mid-Autumn Festival. We can celebrate other holidays together in the future."

Her words struck a chord with Silas Grant.

The man didn’t insist.

"Why was Yael Donovan looking for you?"

"The main reason he sought me out was because of my previous engagement to Yates Donovan."

"As for the rest... it’s a bit complicated. It’s better to wait until you’re back, brother."

Silas Grant heard the deeper meaning in her words. There was more to the story, something she couldn’t conveniently discuss, or perhaps she hadn’t sorted out her thoughts yet.

Mia Grant returned to her school, and their call ended.

Not long after, Silas Grant received a call from Yates Donovan.

"Sorry about that, just got my phone back." Though his words were apologetic, his tone was as flippant as ever.

"Got put in solitary?"

"Yup. Thanks to you, otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten out tonight."

"You and..."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa." Yates Donovan cut him off. "Don’t even start. There’s no way in hell I’m apologizing. He deserved it."

"Besides, even though your relationship with Hayes Hughes is... tsk, whatever. He’s your biological brother, so you could say I was getting a little revenge for you."

"Even if you don’t take my side, you can’t be biased."

"Why would I be?" Silas Grant had no intention of getting involved in their affairs. After all, his current relationship with Kian Keller was just... so-so.

"I wanted to ask about you and your second uncle."

"Our relationship? It’s the same as always."

"I don’t care about your relationship," he said with a laugh. "I only care about why you dragged Mia Grant into this."

As he finished, the man’s voice grew heavy.

Yates Donovan naturally heard it too. ’He’s here to settle the score with me.’

Silas Grant didn’t plan on letting Yael Donovan off the hook, and likewise, he had no intention of letting him off either.

Mia Grant and Yael Donovan were completely unrelated. The fact that she was targeted by Yael was undoubtedly linked to this troublemaker, Yates Donovan.

Yates Donovan was the only link between them.

"About that..."

Yates Donovan stroked his chin. "What did Mia Grant say?"

After all this time, he guessed the siblings must have spoken on the phone.

"Why are you asking?"

"I just want to crib her lines, you know?"

He was certainly candid.

Silas Grant couldn’t be bothered to waste his breath on him.

"Yates, you’d better tell me the whole story, everything you know. My patience is thin today."

Yates Donovan raised an eyebrow.

A thought occurred to him, and he offered an explanation:

"My second uncle thought there was something going on between me and Mia Grant. It was just a misunderstanding."

"You know, I’m still engaged to your *other* sister."

He heavily stressed the word "other," but Silas Grant was unfazed.

Yates Donovan also took the initiative to admit his fault. "I’ll admit, this was partly my fault. But don’t worry, she’s fine."

"Whether she’s ’fine’ or not isn’t for you and your uncle to define. Physical injuries are one thing; psychological trauma is another."

"Wow, you actually care about her mental state?"

Yates Donovan sounded like he’d just heard a hilarious joke.

"You’ve dealt with my second uncle before. He’s got a sharp tongue, just like you. Who knows what he might have said?"

There was no response from the other end. Yates Donovan said, "Hello?" Still nothing. He pulled the phone away from his ear and saw the call had been disconnected for a while.

His goal achieved, he curled his lip into a smile and hummed a little tune as he dialed another number.

"My second uncle is going to Portia next week. Silas Grant will most likely make a move."

Hearing this, the subordinate asked tentatively, "So, should we secretly protect the Second Master?"

Yates Donovan: "With a heart that pure, why don’t you go build up Afrion?"

"...So what are your orders, sir?"

"If he doesn’t die completely, finish the job for them."

"Oh, right, remember to collect his corpse for me. I want to carve the flesh off his bones and feed it to the dogs."

Early in the morning, there was a knock on the dorm room door. The dorm supervisor gestured for Mia Grant to come out.

Mia Grant yawned, her eyes heavy with sleep, and asked, "Can I help you?"

"Your mother is downstairs looking for you."

"..." In an instant, Mia Grant was wide awake.
