Chapter 53: Chapter 51: Caught Cheating in Bed

In the master bedroom, on the bed.

Mia Grant had no idea what was happening.

One second, she was marveling at how handsome Hayes Hughes looked when he cried. The next, a loud BANG came from the door. Before she could even get up to look, the figure of Hayes Hughes by her bed vanished from her sight.

A powerful force yanked him away from her.

It was immediately followed by the sound of a fist hitting flesh and a man’s muffled groan.

’Damn, even that groan from Hayes Hughes sounds kind of sexy.’

’Wait, no!’

’My priorities are all wrong!’

Mia Grant snapped out of it and quickly sat up.

A short distance away, Silas Grant—who had appeared out of nowhere—had one hand balled in Hayes Hughes’s shirt collar while the other was pummeling him.

Every punch landed squarely. Just watching was painful.

’How is Hayes Hughes taking all that without crying out?!’

Mia Grant gasped. ’This is bad, this is really bad. Hayes Hughes is no match for Silas Grant.’

He was completely defenseless.

"Brother!" Mia Grant scrambled off the bed.

"Stop fighting! Stop it!"

She tried to pull them apart but didn’t know where to even begin.

She was too weak; she couldn’t even overpower Hayes Hughes on his own. Now with Silas Grant in the mix...

She raised her hands and lowered them again, repeating the motion several times.

Mia Grant hovered nearby, wanting to jump in but not daring to get too close, afraid she’d get hurt in the crossfire.

All she could do was pace around anxiously.

’This suddenly feels like I’ve been caught in bed with another man.’

Though you could call it a fight, it was really just a one-sided beatdown from Silas Grant. Hayes Hughes never fought back.

"Brother! You really have to stop! My second brother can’t take any more!"

The two of them really did look like they’d been interrupted in the middle of something intimate. The girl stood before him barefoot, her clothes in disarray, her eyes red as she frantically tried to stop him.

Behind his glasses, Silas Grant’s dark gaze shifted away from her disheveled collar.

He couldn’t bear to look.

The images kept hammering and tearing at his nerves.

’They were right here, in this bedroom, on this bed...’

From an angle Mia Grant couldn’t see, a muscle in his face twitched violently.

Silas Grant didn’t let go of Hayes Hughes because of her words. Instead, his blows became even heavier.

With every word she spoke, with every plea she made for Hayes Hughes, he struck harder.

The fire in his heart burned hotter and hotter, the flames leaping so high they threatened to scorch his eyes.

’She really does like Hayes Hughes that much.’

A mocking smile touched Silas Grant’s lips.

Hayes Hughes had been attacked abroad not long ago, and his old wounds hadn’t fully healed.

Not many people knew about the incident, but Silas Grant was definitely one of them.

Because nearly every one of Silas Grant’s punches landed on his injuries.

The wounds, not yet fully healed, had begun to seep blood. The pain made him instinctively hunch over. Cold sweat beaded on his skin, drenching his shirt until it clung uncomfortably to his back.

Hayes Hughes had no idea why Silas Grant was going berserk.

Influenced by his family’s values, he wasn’t the type of person who liked to solve problems with violence, especially not with his own family. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

So, when Silas Grant’s fists started flying, he never thought to fight back.

Although he didn’t know what the problem was, he believed that an older brother is like a father, and it was only natural for an older brother to discipline a younger one. This was especially true when that brother was Silas Grant.

This older brother of his had lived in Portia since they were young, and they had grown up together.

For all these years, their relationship had been one of mutual respect and friendship; they had never caused trouble for one another.

Silas Grant was a good, responsible older brother who always respected his wishes.

And he, in turn, did his best to be a good younger brother.

One of them had inherited the family business as arranged by the elders, while the other had followed his own life plan and entered a profession he loved.

If it weren’t for Silas Grant, he would have been the one forced to inherit the family business.

For that, he had always been grateful to Silas Grant.

But now, as a doctor, his professional training and his body’s reactions were constantly reminding him—

This wasn’t a simple lesson; this was attempted murder.

Silas Grant wanted to kill him.

He had no doubt about it, because Silas Grant truly had the ability to beat him to death right here.

Soon, Hayes Hughes found an opening and began to fight back.

The fight turned into a brawl.

In the scuffle, one of them bumped into Mia Grant, who was standing nearby.

"Oof..." Fortunately, the bed was behind her, so she just fell back onto it. Her shoulder throbbed from the impact.

Silas Grant glanced down at her, then grabbed Hayes Hughes by the collar and dragged him out of the bedroom.

Mia Grant stopped rubbing her shoulder and hurried after them. "Brother, you guys..."

SLAM! The door was slammed shut in her face.

Mia Grant twisted the handle. Silas Grant had locked the door from the outside.

"..."

She pounded on the door, but no one paid her any attention.

Knocking was useless. It couldn’t rouse the rampaging lion on the other side.

She could only quiet down and press her ear to the door, listening intently for any sound from outside.

She didn’t know if the door was too thick or if they had moved to the living room or the hallway, but at that moment, all sound vanished completely.

"Damn it!"

’Why can’t I hear anything?!’

Furious, Mia Grant kicked the door, forgetting she was barefoot. The pain sent her hopping around, clutching her foot.

It was terrifyingly quiet outside. She sat on the floor, her thoughts spiraling. ’There’s no sound at all. Could Hayes Hughes already be...?’

This wasn’t going to work.

Mia Grant scrambled up from the floor and looked around. Her gaze finally landed on Hayes Hughes’s phone, which he had left on the bed.

The screen lit up. She was incredibly relieved that Hayes Hughes didn’t have a habit of setting a passcode.

She quickly opened the contacts and scrolled through a pile of saved names.

Dr. Li, Mr. Wallace, Vice-Director Liu...

None of these would work.

As the saying goes, you don’t air your dirty laundry in public.

The next few numbers belonged to members of the Grant family.

If they came, they would definitely point all the blame at her.

’But what does this have to do with me?’

’I’m one of the good guys here! I even tried to be a hero today, unsuccessfully.’

The contact list also had numbers for people she didn’t recognize, probably friends of Hayes Hughes.

Suddenly, her scrolling finger stopped on a familiar name.

[Yates Donovan]

Mia Grant’s first reaction was that it was just someone with the same name. But when she clicked on it and saw the number, she realized it really was her ’little sister’ Yates Donovan!

’In a situation like this, he’s the only one to call!’

Yates Donovan was friends with Silas Grant, and apparently, he was also in touch with Hayes Hughes privately. Plus, he posed no threat to her.

He was the one!

Yates Donovan picked up quickly.

"Dr. Hughes? Why are you calling me? Didn’t you say you don’t believe a word I say?"

"Or what, did you finally see the light? Ready to get revenge on Kian Keller?"

"I told you, that stab from him was no joke. If you’re going for revenge, I’d be more than happy to show up and cheer you on."

"But if it’s about anything else, forget it. I’m busy."

"..."

"Hello? Anyone there?"

Yates Donovan muttered to himself for a bit but still heard no response from the other end.

"If you don’t say anything, I’m hanging up." He frowned. Just as he was about to pull the phone from his ear to check the signal, someone on the line suddenly called out to him.

"Ya-Yates Donovan."

It was a girl’s trembling voice, as faint as a whisper.

"..."

After a brief silence, the girl took a deep breath and said:

"It’s me. I’m Mia Grant."
