I Dragged My Fiance's Uncle off the Altar-Chapter 5
About-face After Leaving the Bed
Cheng Lang rarely took charge of the Cheng Corporation Group in the past. He had been controlling it remotely from overseas. But even so, ever since he took over the Cheng Corporation Group, the company’s performance had been risen steadily; its share price had risen several times. Now that Cheng Lang had returned, those parasites leeching off the Cheng Corporation Group would naturally panic.
“Xing Shu, you’d better consider it carefully. If you can’t take care of Xingyang, then I don’t think there’s a need to continue this marriage.” Chen Ru said coldly—objectifying Xing Shu with her callous words.
Xing Shu knew that Chen Ru’s next call would be to the Xing family if she did not act quickly. Her parents would then call to reprimand her for being so imprudent and failing to please them. Unfortunately, she was tired of being a marionette then.
After hanging up the phone, Xing Shu sent the address of Cheng Xingyang’s villa in the suburbs— where he kept his mistress—to Chen Ru. Chen Ru could easily find out about Cheng Xingyang’s mistress, if she wished. She was not sure if Chen Ru already knew about the relationship between Cheng Xingyang and Xing Linlin—which would explain her increasingly bossy attitude towards Xing Shu. On the one hand, Chen Ru told her to be an obedient daughter-in-law of the Cheng family; and on the other hand, she instructed Xing Shu to help solve all of Cheng Xingyang’s work problems. What wishful thinking—treating and making the most out of her as a tool.
When Xing Shu got to the office, she realized that the entire floor was abnormally quiet. Everyone was sitting upright and looking at the elevator from time to time.
Her colleagues whispered, “I heard that all the senior management has been summoned for a meeting. President Cheng doesn’t seem to be leaving this time.”
“A few days ago, The Wall Street Journal featured an exclusive interview with President Cheng—a genius with two degrees from Harvard! Cheng Corporation Group is in for major changes.”
Xing Shu walked to her desk. At the thought of the man in bed last night—who was currently on the top floor of Cheng Corporation Group—the corners of her lips curled up. It was undeniable that Cheng Lang was very sexy—and tensile—in bed. Of course, he was also very sexy out of the bed—dressed impeccably—and making abstinence sexy.
As soon as Xing Shu sat down, someone patted her on the shoulder. “Why isn’t the Director here yet? If he doesn’t attend the senior management meeting, will our department be the first to be targeted?” Xing Shu’s colleague—the only person who knew about the relationship between Xing Shu and Cheng Xingyang—Hu Jie asked.
Xing Shu put on her staff pass. “I don’t know.”
A hint of surprise glinted in Hu Jie’s eyes, before she hid her disdain. “Isn’t the Director your fiancé? No way, Xing Shu. Even a looker like you can’t hold on to a man?”
As they say, a beautiful appearance coupled with any ability was always a trump card. Xing Shu graduated from Beijing University—the top college in the country. But in a large corporation like Cheng Corporation Group, Ivy League college graduates were a dime a dozen. Hence, Xing Shu’s educational qualification was nothing in comparison, but her beauty was as rare as hen’s teeth.
“Xing Shu, I think I saw the Director shopping with a woman—his arms were around her waist—the other time. Did you get cheated on?” As Hu Jie spoke, she began to sympathize with Xing Shu—it was really not easy to marry into a wealthy family.
Xing Shu sighed and tidied up the documents. “Maybe.” Just then, the elevator door opened and Cheng Xingyang walked in in a gray suit, looking very unhappy. As he walked, he straightened his tie and smoothed the creases on his suit. He looked like he had a long night last night.
Xing Shu took the neatly-arranged documents and handed them to Cheng Xingyang. A look of disdain flashed across Cheng Xingyang’s face as he walked impatiently towards the private elevator. “Follow me to the top floor for a meeting.” If he got stumped by any question, Xing Shu would be there to save him since all the documents were compiled by her.
The atmosphere on the top floor was very tense; all the senior management was on high alert. Cheng Xingyang was frustrated. When he stepped into the conference room and saw the man standing in front of the window wall, he suddenly shivered and lowered his head respectfully. “Young Uncle… President Cheng.”
Behind the master seat of the conference table was a huge window wall. Cheng Lang walked to the master seat and sat down. His face was expressionless, like an impending winter. The conference room was blanketed in silence. All the directors suffered from neck tension anxiety, and their palms were covered in sweat.
Xing Shu scanned the conference room and saw many familiar faces—all from the Cheng family—and many of them were even Cheng Lang’s elders. Xing Shu pursed her lips and smiled at the thought of a group of elders being so intimidated by a junior. She raised her head and met Cheng Lang’s eyes—they were calm.
Tsk, men and their about-face after leaving the bed.
