I can upgrade the shelter-Chapter 691 - 589: New Model Titan
After receiving equipment from the Flame Country and becoming familiar with the situation of the alien creatures, the reinforcements sent by Lucia were finally brought to the battlefield.
Since the situation at this point wasn’t too critical, and the Lucians were allies coming to reinforce, the command headquarters sent them to the battlefield but didn’t put them in the front lines for combat directly.
Instead, they were placed behind the defensive line to assist as a reinforcement unit, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the battlefield first.
Although the Lucians didn’t mind being thrown onto the battlefield directly, since they had the chance to get used to the environment first, they naturally had no objections.
Upon arriving at the defensive line, the Lucians were shocked by the relentless fierce gunfire on the frontline, with many feeling somewhat startled.
They were not new recruits, nor were they inexperienced in war; some had even participated in suppressing opposition forces in the Lucia Capital before, but they had never experienced such an intense battlefield.
The continuous sound of machine guns was deafening, as intense as a torrential downpour, and the occasional artillery strikes and air raids from the rear made them feel like they were in World War II trenches.
However, this was just the norm at the defensive line and didn’t count as truly intense combat.
"What? This is just normal gunfire?" Chekov widened his eyes as he listened to a Flame Country soldier explain the situation.
Vasily was also quite surprised and asked the Russian-speaking Flame Country soldier, "But from the density of this gunfire, this is already full-scale combat, right? We never saw anything this intense even in the Middle East."
"It’s different. In the Middle East, even in the fiercest battles, it was merely between a few units. But here, the entire defensive line is firing," said the Flame Country soldier with a smile, not thinking the Lucians were overreacting.
In fact, if he hadn’t already adapted to the intense conditions on the defensive line, he, too, might have been as surprised as the Lucians.
After all, the combat at the front was truly fierce. Everyone on the entire defensive line kept firing their weapons without pause. Without this continuous barrage, the constantly approaching alien creatures, in overwhelming numbers, would flood the defensive line.
"Then what is an intense engagement like?" Chekov asked out of curiosity, with Vasily also interested in the answer.
The Flame Country soldier continued smiling and casually remarked, "Earlier, we dropped thirty tactical nuclear bombs."
The two Lucians instantly widened their eyes, their mouths left agape in shock.
When it came to the use of nuclear bombs, the Suyians were the ones who were truly reckless, using them for dam construction, railways, firefighting—any conceivable use was tried by the Suyians back in the day.
As the successors of the Suyians, the Lucians were naturally familiar with nuclear bombs, but that didn’t mean the two Lucian soldiers had ever seen one used.
In fact, true wartime use of nuclear bombs in human history remains limited to those two bombs from back then.
Although the Flame Country soldier mentioned tactical nuclear bombs, even tactical nuclear bombs are still nuclear bombs, and the number, thirty, is already extremely terrifying.
This made the two Lucian soldiers clearly realize what kind of battlefield was involved in combating alien creatures, and just how intense the war really was.

While the Lucians were adjusting to the battlefield, Chen Xin was busy tuning the new model of the Titan.
"Professor Chen, is this the new model of the Titan? Why does it look so different from before?"
Hearing that Chen Xin was going to test the new Titan model, the military quickly dispatched personnel to observe and understand the situation on-site.
What appeared before them was a machine with significant differences in appearance compared to the previous Titan, which left the military observers quite surprised.
"It’s indeed different. I’ve modified many designs. This one is prepared for mass production, so we’ve saved on parts that used to consume a lot of resources and production time on the original Titan," Chen Xin explained to the military personnel. On the new model Titan, he indeed omitted and altered many components.
Upon hearing this explanation, the military personnel nodded in understanding, realizing that while the earlier Titan was effective, its cost was also high. Despite expanding production lines, the output remained limited.
Since it was a test, there was also a standard Titan parked next to the new model for direct comparison, allowing the differences to be clearly seen.
The standard Titan had a more humanoid appearance, equipped with dual arms for operating weapons, appearing taller and with more robust armor.
The new model Titan, however, looked slim and fragile at a glance, and didn’t resemble a humanoid form at all.
In the new model, Chen Xin used a reverse-joint movement structure to enhance mobility, but removed the dual arms, directly integrating weapons into the Titan’s body.
Additionally, Chen Xin transformed the Titan’s torso into a weapon platform, shaped somewhat like an inverted bowl, with its body structure considerably shortened, and its head repositioned to the front of the body rather than on top.
This design made the new model Titan resemble a hunchback carrying a turtle shell, with weapons on its arms and reverse-jointed legs, giving it a rather peculiar appearance.
Although this design seemed odd, abandoning the humanoid structure resulted in a simpler form for the new model Titan, making both production and operation significantly easier.
The military was unfazed by the appearance; their primary concern was performance.
However, there was no need to worry about this aspect. Compared to the standard Titan, the new model’s armaments were vastly superior.
First, Chen Xin mounted a Close-In Weapon System on the bowl-like top of the new Titan, and one arm was equipped with a 75mm short-barreled hand cannon, previously tested on the standard Titan.
But this time, the cannon was directly mounted onto the Titan instead of being handheld.
The other arm was fitted with a large-caliber six-barreled aircraft gun, fed by a belt linking it to an ammunition box mounted on the Titan’s back.
Watching the new model Titan test its weaponry, the military was very satisfied with the firepower, but still posed a question to Chen Xin: "Professor Chen, alien creatures are so fast and vast in number, what if they break through the firepower barrier and approach the Titan? How do we handle close combat then?"
