I can upgrade the shelter-Chapter 660 - 558: The General’s Request
The resource recovery work at the hospital did not encounter any surprises.
Although this area belongs to the war zone and is close to the frontline, until Chen Xin and his team completed the collection and transportation of resources, the expected encounter with alien creatures did not happen.
This made Chen Xin breathe a sigh of relief. While they were prepared for an encounter with alien creatures and ensuing battles, no one actually wanted to fight if it could be avoided.
After all, war results in casualties.
Even though technology is advanced now, the frontline is fighting against alien creatures with mere flesh and blood. The military has deployed a large number of modern weapons to reduce casualties, but that doesn't mean there are none.
In fact, even if Chen Xin and his team didn't come to the hospital to collect resources, the military intended to make use of this place.
Of course, the military's use doesn't mean converting it into a field hospital.
While that's not impossible, it's still too close to the frontline, and the underground highway's security is not foolproof.
If alien creatures break through here, there wouldn't be much time to transfer the wounded.
Therefore, the military plans to move the medical equipment to a safer location and use these medical resources to set up a field hospital to treat the wounded.
However, after Chen Xin sent the message that the Dome City required the collection of leftover urban resources, the military generously yielded the resources here for Chen Xin and his team to use first, to meet the needs of tens of thousands of relocated civilians.
Because of this, Chen Xin did not take all the resources from the hospital; he only took some of the urgently needed medical resources and medical equipment for the Dome City and left quite a bit for the military.
At least, of the hospital's few operating rooms, Chen Xin and his team cleared out only four, leaving two for the military.
For the military, their main need is for the treatment of external injuries. After all, the most common injuries on the battlefield are flesh wounds, with other diseases being rarer.
Other medical resources were treated similarly. Chen Xin left the vast majority of medical resources used to treat common battlefield injuries, taking only a small portion, with the rest mainly used for treating other diseases that the military does not particularly need.
With these medical resources, Chen Xin and his team returned to the Research Center.
Chen Xin originally planned for everyone to rest for a while and transport these resources to the high-speed rail station to load onto the train, while he himself would take the opportunity to go home and bring any usable resources.
But after Chen Xin led his team back to the Research Center, the general in charge of commanding the city's operations found Chen Xin.
"Academician Chen, if we want to restore the Titan production capacity at the Research Center, can it be done now?" The general didn't bother with pleasantries and directly asked the purpose of finding Chen Xin.
Hearing the general say this, Chen Xin was a bit stunned but nodded directly, replying, "That's simple. We didn't remove the Titan production and manufacturing equipment during the evacuation. As long as there are enough technical personnel and raw materials, production can be resumed here anytime. I just don't really recommend doing so."
The general listened to Chen Xin's response and saw that he didn't recommend resuming Titan production here. Instead of getting angry or showing any other reaction, he nodded in understanding.
After contemplating for a moment, he continued to ask Chen Xin, "Then if we move Titan production to the Dome City, how long would it take you to restore production?"
"Is the battle situation very critical? Does the military need Titans on the battlefield?" Chen Xin was a bit puzzled. Logically, the general shouldn't have such a high demand for Titans.
The Titan naturally has a significant advantage in battles against alien creatures. These large combat robots have an adequate size, strong power, and formidable firepower, making them highly suitable for addressing alien creatures encountered in urban street fighting.
Even tanks and armored vehicles are not as effective as a single Titan in such urban environments because tanks and armored vehicles lack the flexibility needed to maneuver through many types of urban terrains that Titans can effortlessly handle.
However, given the current situation on this city's front, the military has already stabilized the situation, effectively using the city's complex environment to resist alien invasions while inflicting significant and efficient damage on them. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Since the Titans were developed by Chen Xin, and until the last batch of Autonomous Titans were sent to the frontline before the war broke out, the military had acquired at least over two hundred Titans from the Research Center.
Although some were test models or civilian-modified versions sent to the Southwest disaster area for testing, on this city's battlefield, the military possesses at least a combat force comprising over fifty military Titans and twenty Autonomous Titans, so they shouldn't lack Titan combat power.
The general's apparent eagerness to resume Titan production puzzled Chen Xin, but after giving it some thought, he replied, "If the equipment here is transported over, and there are sufficient raw materials provided, I can restore Titan production within three days."
"What about the production output?" The general appeared more excited and concerned.
Chen Xin estimated and replied after consideration, "With adequate raw materials, twenty units per week."
That production output is not the true capacity of the Titan production line at the Research Center. Although, with the advanced mastery of Titan production technology now, the production time for a single Titan has been reduced to about a week, the Research Center's production line can simultaneously work on a maximum of five units.
The production line for parts is slightly more capable, allowing the production of repair parts while manufacturing Titans.
Thus, five Titans can be produced per week, in addition to parts enough to assemble two more Titans.
Previously, the Research Center was functioning for experimental production purposes; output wasn't the priority. The focus was more on mastering Titan production technology and refining their design.
As long as Titans could be produced at the Research Center, and adjustments and repairs could occur in a timely manner, that was sufficient.
If the military now requires such production, Chen Xin certainly could upgrade the production equipment to improve output, which wouldn't be too challenging for him.
After hearing Chen Xin's assurance, the general revealed a relieved expression before saying to Chen Xin, "This city has over twenty Autonomous Titans and those from the Titan Training Base that you supported earlier. Along with other troops, solidifying our lines here is indeed not an issue, but other regions don't have such stable defenses."
