I can upgrade the shelter-Chapter 584 - 482: A New Mobile Base
The enormous new Mobile Base moves across the snowfield, and while its massive size offers various conveniences, it also impacts its ability to traverse.
The original Mobile Base was large, equivalent to two train carriages parked side by side, but in today’s world covered in thick snow, it faced no particular obstacles in its path.
However, when its size is doubled, more consideration is needed for its mobility.
At least in places where the original Mobile Base could pass, there are now areas where this Mobile Base cannot, and the requirement for ground evenness has also increased.
The large snowplow at the front of the vehicle continuously clears the snow, smoothing the ground as much as possible; this way, when the giant vehicle moves forward under the support of six sets of tracks, it won’t face uneven stress due to terrain, avoiding unnecessary damage.
Though the size was increased, Chen Xin still opted for a tracked propulsion method.
They upgraded from the original four sets of eight tracks to six sets of twelve tracks, with the tracks themselves becoming wider and longer to distribute the weight more evenly on the ground.
During operation, these massive tracks produce loud noise and continuous vibrations, but fortunately, the Mobile Base has sufficient soundproofing and anti-vibration measures, so there is little noise and shock felt even in the vehicle garage at the bottom of the vehicle.
However, if the doors leading outside from the garage are opened, large amounts of noise will penetrate.
The remodeled Mobile Base has an additional deck; aside from the space needed to house the Weather Controller, other parts are designed as crew cabins, adding on to the existing cabins to accommodate everyone from the previous base.
The public space intended to serve as a dining hall is noticeably reduced, requiring everyone to eat in shifts and line up, as not all can sit around the dining table at the same time.
Such an issue was within Chen Xin’s expectations, although it does reflect a shortcoming in the design, it is not an insurmountable flaw. It’s not unusual for dining halls to be unable to accommodate everyone at the same time.
As long as meal times are staggered, the problem is easily resolved. The only potential concern is that during an all-hands meeting, the common space might be inadequate.
In such cases, the top deck hangar could be utilized.
Though about one-third of the top deck is occupied by the Weather Controller, the hangar is still larger than before, and the side extension platforms formerly accommodating four helicopters now support six, increasing by half.
The hangar has increased quite a bit, though its complement of helicopters hasn’t been supplemented, so the hangar seems somewhat sparse. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Now, ascending from the hangar, one doesn’t encounter an empty top deck, island command room, and a lone naval cannon; instead, a huge microwave projection antenna installed on the top deck stands like a giant iron pot.
However, this pot isn’t for cooking or storing things; it’s designed for microwave projection.
In this upgrade, Chen Xin made adjustments to the original naval cannon, upgrading it from a 130mm cannon to a dual-mounted 150mm, speeding up the launch of special shells that disperse chemical agents to designated areas, thereby quickening the Weather Controller’s response time.
As the Captain of the Mobile Base, having the base upgraded brings joy, although it means familiarizing himself with a new environment, it doesn’t affect his good mood.
Who wouldn’t want to command a larger warship? No one would prefer being the Captain of a destroyer over an aircraft carrier, right?
This joyous mood urges the Captain to perform his duties better, imposing fresh, rigorous demands on all operators aboard the Mobile Base, and organizing several drills to simulate various scenarios.
It’s impressive how adept these military personnel are; despite their short acquaintance with the previous Mobile Base and the transition to a new environment, they quickly adapted to the new Mobile Base, maximizing its efficiency and functionality in the shortest time possible.
Chen Xin is naturally extremely satisfied with this situation, and during the days leaving Lucia, as the Captain and operators gain familiarity, they addressed minor issues and unreasonable aspects, resolving them through Chen Xin’s upgrades.
Chen Xin even realized his previous concept from transforming the land cruiser into a Mobile Base, which was adding a small greenhouse to the Mobile Base.
This greenhouse is placed at the rear of the vehicle, appearing as a section protruding between the top deck and the second deck.
The interior adopts a vertical planting mode inspired by ecological greenhouse technology, capable of carrying multiple crops to solve food problems for occupants aboard the Mobile Base.
However, the greenhouse’s area is small, and its yield is limited; while it can solve dietary issues, the Mobile Base cannot rely solely on the greenhouse’s output, external supplies are still needed.
The presence of the greenhouse merely strengthens the Mobile Base’s self-sufficiency, allowing fresh vegetable provisions even without external supplies, preventing malnutrition and scurvy among Mobile Base occupants, similar to sailors of the Age of Discovery.
Additionally, Chen Xin carved out a small test area in one corner of the top deck hangar for necessary testing activities like manufacturing special shells filled with chemical agents.
This test area isn’t permanent; once Chen Xin and his team return home and evacuate the Mobile Base, it can be cleared out. However, currently, it serves the purpose of manufacturing special shells and modifying existing ammunition.
Due to Chen Xin’s increase in the naval cannon’s caliber, the original shells no longer fit; all ammunition requires remodeling.
Without Chen Xin, this batch of ammunition couldn’t be used, yet his system upgrade ensures none of the ammo is wasted.
The reason for manufacturing new special shells during the journey home is Chen Xin’s plan to conduct several Weather Controller activation tests en route, evaluating its effectiveness across different environments.
