I can upgrade the shelter-Chapter 525 - 423: Attack
Lucia is a magical land, producing many things, including talented musicians like Tchaikovsky, literary giants whose names echo worldwide such as Tolstoy, Gorky, and Pushkin, and famous painters like Repin.
Not to mention that this country, often jokingly called a nation of fighters, gave birth to the renowned ballet genre, Lucia Ballet.
One cannot help but marvel at how such a seemingly rugged and even somewhat barbaric country nurtures such a brilliant culture.
But just as Lucia produces awe-inspiring culture, it also produces something else fitting the fighter nation label, namely the Lucians who are often called "Maozi."
The word "Maozi" was initially a derogatory term, a kind of pejorative.
However, as times changed, the derogatory sense of the term seemed to have faded, adding a unique descriptive flavor.
Mao-style equipment, Mao-style maintenance, Mao-style rescue... and so on, it seems to have become a unique descriptive method for Lucians; when someone mentions "Maozi," everyone understands what’s being talked about.
Though it bears a hint of stereotype, it must be said that Lucians in some ways do indeed think differently from people of other countries and ethnicities, always preferring simple and direct methods, even if these methods require more cost.
This was the case in the past Soviet era, and it is the same in present-day Lucia.
Outside the temporary camp of Flame Country, a group of Lucians, wrapped tightly in all sorts of things they could find like dumplings yet looking as filthy as refugees, are negotiating with the sentry.
"Hello comrade, we are from the Revolutionary Army and are transporting infected persons for treatment. Can you let us in?" A burly man is negotiating with a soldier from Flame Country who, though much smaller in stature, is clad in Power Armor, trying to pull something out of his pocket to bribe the soldier.
But the soldier from Flame Country is evidently different from Lucia’s police and cannot be bought with bribes.
"Sorry, I can’t take your things, and I haven’t received any notice that I can let you in, so I can’t let you in." The soldier stepped aside to avoid the items handed over and firmly rejected the request.
This seemed to make the burly Lucia man very troubled, as the big, robust man appeared very humble in front of the soldier, earnestly pleading, "Comrade, these are all innocent infected persons, and if they don’t get treatment, there’s no saving them. Can you accommodate us a little? Just a little and let us in!"
However, the soldier of Flame Country just shook his head, showing not the slightest intention of accommodating.
"I don’t have the authority to let you in, nor have I received any notice to let you in. If you wish to enter, please go through the proper channels for negotiation." The Flame Country soldier, without putting on a cold face that shuts people out, pointed out a feasible solution to the man.
If this burly Lucia man were genuinely just here to deliver infected persons for treatment, the soldier’s suggestion would be quite practical and feasible. As long as he reported to the Revolutionary Committee and used official channels to contact the Flame Country side through the committee, arrangements for admitting the infected persons would naturally follow.
But clearly, this burly Lucia man, along with those who came with him and even the so-called "infected" being carried on stretchers, was merely a group of schemers.
Under the maneuvering of some people behind the scenes, they planned to infiltrate the Flame Country camp this way and then create chaos from within. When the Flame Country soldiers are incited into disarray and self-absorbed, they intend to seize the opportunity to kidnap doctors treating the infected and steal the treatment methods.
A small core group among them even had a further plan, which was to hijack Flame Country’s planes amidst the chaos so that people behind the scenes could flee to the Equatorial Region, where the living conditions are better.
From a Lucian perspective, coming up with such a plan is quite remarkable; it is, after all, a plan with quite some feasibility.
If it were the Lucia army stationed here, this plan would likely succeed; even replaced by the pre-reformed Flame Country army, the plan still has a certain degree of feasibility.
After all, they had hidden weapons under the stretchers, and if infiltration failed, a forced attack was an alternative.
Only now, what they face isn’t the comparably armed Lucia army or the pre-reformed Flame Country army, but the elite Flame Country special forces equipped with military Exoskeletons and Electromagnetic Rifles.
In such a scenario, a forced attack would mean certain doom.
However, Lucians are Lucians. Even with a plan behind them, after several failed attempts to persuade the sentry, a few insurgents, unable to bear the cold any longer, directly pulled out their ancestral AKs from under the stretchers and launched an attack on the sentry.
"Ding ding ding ding!"
The bullets hit the military Exoskeleton on the soldier, sparking a series of flashes, which, although not penetrating the bulletproof armor on the Exoskeleton, still forced the unprepared soldier back two steps.
After recovering, the soldier quickly lifted his Electromagnetic Rifle with the Exoskeleton’s assistance and started to counterattack. With a few precise shots, he brought down several leading insurgents and also swiftly called for reinforcements via communication equipment.
"Emergency! There are Lucians shooting at me at the gate, requesting support!" Although requesting support, the soldier didn’t show any sign of tension or panic, but rather used nearby cover to pick off the Lucian insurgents holding ancestral AKs one by one.
Although the AK’s bullets were still quite lethal, for the soldier, it was merely a case of being caught off guard initially, resulting in a bite on his arm, which hardly hindered him.
Even if the arm temporarily lost strength, the soldier didn’t need much force to hold his Electromagnetic Rifle steady with the help of the Exoskeleton.
Without deliberately aiming at fatal parts, once reinforcements arrived and ended the assault that hadn’t caused much trouble, most of the Lucian insurgents were killed, with only a few choosing to surrender and survive.
After a simple treatment of the prisoners’ injuries, they were pointed with guns and began cleaning up the corpses on the ground, planning to hand them over to the Lucian authorities along with the prisoners, while the injured soldier received excellent medical care.
Just at that moment, a rocket was suddenly fired from outside the camp, accurately hitting the captives who were being forced to move the corpses at the gate, causing a violent explosion.
