Chapter 504: Chapter 502 Twin-rotor Helicopter

In the open space outside the Research Center, a large helicopter is being towed out of the hangar by a tractor.

This helicopter’s design is vastly different from a regular helicopter because a normal helicopter only has one rotor, whereas this helicopter has two large rotors.

Moreover, these two large rotors are not placed on the sides of the fuselage or at the front and rear ends like some dual-rotor aircraft; instead, they are positioned on top of the fuselage, forming a slanted cross.

This type of helicopter is called a coaxial rotor helicopter, and internationally, only a minimal number of helicopters use this design.

Its rotors have been specially adjusted and designed; although their trajectories interfere with each other while rotating, they do not collide.

This design can enhance the helicopter’s load capacity and stability, although it does reduce the flexibility of this dual-rotor helicopter.

However, considering that the purpose is to improve carrying capacity and stability, this trade-off is acceptable.

Of course, this helicopter is not a product of Flame Country but one of the finds Chen Xin and his team brought back from Lucia, a prototype of a dual-rotor helicopter developed during the former Suyia era.

According to the records found, it should have been a product from the same era as the V12 helicopter, both results of Suyia’s heavy helicopter development at that time. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

However, just as the V12 was not put into production, this dual-rotor helicopter was similarly shelved and not produced, with only the two prototypes found by Chen Xin and his team.

Both prototypes were naturally transported back by Chen Xin and his team. One prototype was handed over to the Equipment Research Lab for disassembly and study after being brought back, while the other was stored in the warehouse as a reserve after maintenance and inspection.

Previously, when Chen Xin was considering a rescue mission for Lucia, he took into account the need for rapid support and modified the reserved prototype to its current form, intending to use it as a medical transport helicopter.

Unexpectedly, what was initially just a backup plan has now become indispensably needed.

The top of the helicopter houses two high-power engines, which were originally fuel engines. However, when upgrading, Chen Xin converted them into electric engines currently used by Flame Country and prepared two sets of tri-linked Isotope Thermoelectric Batteries for each engine.

One set provides power, the other is a backup, ensuring reliability.

Thanks to such modifications, the helicopter’s maximum takeoff weight soared to sixty tons, while the fuselage weighs only fifteen tons, allowing it to carry up to forty-five tons of cargo airborne.

Since it was originally intended to be used as a medical transport helicopter, the interior cabin layout was modeled after the Mi-26 design, with the cockpit accommodating a six-person aircrew and the cargo bay lined with twenty folding seats along its walls. The internal space can accommodate two light infantry fighting vehicles or two Titans.

If no Titans are carried and only soldiers are brought, the helicopter cabin can accommodate eighty soldiers equipped with exoskeletons.

Currently, the helicopter cabin contains two specially modified lightweight Titans, four firepower-enhanced heavy mechas, and forty soldiers wearing protective military exoskeletons.

They will board this helicopter, fly directly to Lucia’s Capital, and execute the rescue mission.

Due to the inability to temporarily redeploy troops, the forty soldiers on the helicopter are all warriors originally stationed to guard the Research Center’s special unit. They are the most suitable for this mission because they, leveraging the innate advantages of the Research Center, were always the first to test new equipment once developed and are most familiar with these new tools.

"With only one helicopter, will there be any problems?" Watching the helicopter being prepared nervously for takeoff, Tang Tang asked Chen Xin.

"There should be no problem. This helicopter was specially designed by me to perform long-distance tasks rapidly. Considering the lengthy flight time for long-distance missions, I specifically designed a cockpit to accommodate a six-person crew and equipped it with two crews to rotate, preventing fatigue from prolonged flights," Chen Xin explained to Tang Tang, to reassure her and bolster his own confidence at the same time: "Moreover, the helicopter flies at a relatively low altitude, capable of avoiding high air currents; there shouldn’t be any issues."

"I hope they complete the mission successfully and bring everyone back," Tang Tang nodded slightly after listening to Chen Xin’s explanation, then asked Chen Xin: "Regarding the spread of the ancient virus in Lucia, it seemed like you were quite concerned about this matter before. Are you worried about the virus spreading to our country?"

"Indeed, I’m concerned about that possibility. Even if the virus in Lucia doesn’t spread over here, we cannot ignore the potential for similar outbreaks domestically," Chen Xin did not deny his concerns over this issue.

Upon hearing Chen Xin’s words, Tang Tang couldn’t help but take notice, feeling that although Chen Xin seemed overly worried, given the current situation, preparations are indeed necessary.

So she asked Chen Xin: "Do you have any ideas then? The current situation is entirely different from the past; pandemic prevention work is not easy!"

Chen Xin also agreed with this perspective, but he had made some preparations.

Taking a health band transformed temporarily from nano-molecules from his pocket and handing it to Tang Tang, Chen Xin explained the function of this gadget to her.

"Real-time monitoring would indeed be very effective, but how can you ensure everyone would be willing to wear it?" Tang Tang considered more aspects of the issue and did not believe a simple band could solve the problem: "Moreover, you mentioned it’s intended to detect those infected with the virus before symptoms appear. If there are no changes in their physical condition, how would the band detect it?"

"So, this gadget is just an initial proposal, and the country likely cannot spread it widely on a large scale currently either." Tang Tang’s concerns were also Chen Xin’s; given the information previously obtained, he was also considering upgrading and adjusting the band proposal.

Yet, Tang Tang was not optimistic about the band proposal. After looking at the band in her hand, she shook her head and said: "Even if such a band is very low-cost, promoting it nationwide to each person would involve massive investments, something not easily achievable even on a national level.

Additionally, considering the band has certain monitoring capabilities, whether ordinary people can accept it is also a question. If possible, I suggest, little Chen, that you consider other methods as well. It might not be suitable to rely on this band."
