I Can Upgrade My Talent Infinitely-Chapter 107: The Harvest Arrives
Upon seeing Fang Yun, Wu Junxin, who had been in a bad mood, instantly felt much better.
He knew Fang Yun valued his time greatly.
If he hadn’t been in the ranking battle, Fang Yun certainly wouldn’t have come to watch. The moment his three Magical Combat sessions ended, he would’ve already left Battle Peak and vanished without a trace.
This proved their relationship was strong—he thought so, and he believed Fang Yun did too.
And Fang Yun’s actions were all the proof he needed.
"Junior Brother Fang, it’s been a while." After stepping off the Dueling Platform, Wu Junxin went straight to Fang Yun’s side.
"Senior Brother Wu, long time no see."
"Sigh, what an embarrassing way for us to meet again," Wu Junxin said, referring to his recent loss.
Hearing this, Fang Yun consoled him, "Eighth place is still excellent. It’s more than enough to prove your strength, Senior Brother."
’It seems Junior Brother rarely pays attention to the Inner Sect Ranking.’
"I’m still seventh," Wu Junxin corrected with a smile.
He had previously won a ranking battle to reach sixth place. Shortly after, the disciple he had displaced to seventh was then defeated by the eighth-ranked Yuan Yunfan, who took his spot.
And now, over a month later, it led to today’s ranking battle.
"..." Fang Yun smiled as well, then changed the subject.
He then introduced Zhang Cailing and Lu Zefeng.
Of course, Zhang Cailing and Lu Zefeng knew of Wu Junxin. Practically any disciple who frequented Battle Peak knew of those on the Inner Sect Ranking.
Because Zhang Cailing and Lu Zefeng were prominent among the Qi Refining Eighth Layer Inner Sect Disciples and had the potential to make the Inner Sect Ranking, Wu Junxin also knew a little about them.
Wu Junxin and Fang Yun chatted for a bit, both planning to leave Battle Peak.
Aside from the ranking battle, Wu Junxin had other matters to attend to today.
Meanwhile, Zhang Cailing and Lu Zefeng had gone to recover their Spiritual Power. As Lu Zefeng didn’t have a partner, Zhang Cailing offered to spar with him to help him better adapt to using his right hand.
As Fang Yun and Wu Junxin were preparing to head down from Battle Peak, Yuan Yunfan, who had just been to the Steward alone to check out from the Dueling Platform, was also getting ready to leave.
"Junior Brother Yuan, heading down together?"
"Yeah." Yuan Yunfan glanced at Wu Junxin, then at Fang Yun, and nodded.
The three of them chatted casually as they made their way down Battle Peak.
On the way down, Yuan Yunfan suddenly thought of something and asked.
"Junior Brother Fang, has that Deng Qian come looking for you for a Magical Combat spar?"
He thought he had seen Deng Qian when he arrived at Battle Peak earlier, but he hadn’t bothered to take a closer look to confirm, since it didn’t seem necessary.
"He did," Fang Yun nodded.
"And what happened?" Yuan Yunfan pressed.
"Nothing happened. I turned him down."
"Why?"
Yuan Yunfan was a little confused. He had assumed Fang Yun, like himself, never turned down a challenge, no matter how powerful the opponent. And yet, Fang Yun had refused a Magical Combat spar with Deng Qian, a cultivator at the Qi Refining Ninth Layer.
’Could it be that he’s scared?’
Just as Yuan Yunfan was wondering this, Fang Yun gave his answer.
"Not interested."
At this moment, Wu Junxin, who was listening, asked Yuan Yunfan, "Junior Brother Yuan, did you tell Junior Brother Fang about Deng Qian?"
"I did." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Yuan Yunfan nodded. He had warned Fang Yun to watch out for him.
"No wonder Junior Brother Fang wasn’t interested. After what you said, Junior Brother Yuan, Deng Qian must have left a bad impression on him. Of course he wouldn’t agree to a Magical Combat spar."
"You have to understand, Junior Brother Yuan, our Junior Brother Fang doesn’t come to Battle Peak for Magical Combat very often, and he only ever does three spars at a time. Why would he waste one of those opportunities on someone like that?"
"I see." Yuan Yunfan nodded, finally understanding.
’Junior Brother Fang really respects me as his senior brother.’
Yuan Yunfan could accept being held in high regard by Fang Yun. After all, Fang Yun had already earned his respect.
’Wu Junxin’s explanation isn’t entirely right,’ Fang Yun thought, ’but it doesn’t matter.’
He didn’t want to discuss Deng Qian.
The other two felt similarly. Soon, their conversation shifted back to Magical Combat—how to defeat opponents, how to defend more effectively.
As a junior brother at the Qi Refining Seventh Layer, Fang Yun mostly listened while his two senior brothers did most of the talking.
Wu Junxin, in particular, was the most talkative.
When they reached the foot of Battle Peak, Fang Yun bid the other two farewell.
...
「Late September.」
It was almost two years since Fang Yun had become a disciple of the Celestial Cloud Sect.
On his six-mu Spirit Field, the Qi Nourishing Grass was finally ready to be harvested. Fang Yun performed the last round of weeding and pest control.
Fang Yun had planted a total of six hundred Qi Nourishing Grass seeds across his six-mu Spirit Field.
His final harvest was five hundred ninety-seven stalks.
Three stalks of Qi Nourishing Grass had withered and died because he had gone too long between tending to them.
His survival rate was remarkably high, a fact made even more impressive given how infrequently he tended to the Qi Nourishing Grass.
Fang Yun carefully took stock of his Qi Nourishing Grass.
Superior-grade Qi Nourishing Grass: one hundred seventy-six stalks.
Good-grade Qi Nourishing Grass: three hundred seventy-three stalks.
Inferior-grade Qi Nourishing Grass: forty-eight stalks.
All in all, it was a pretty good harvest.
’If I’d focused entirely on the Qi Nourishing Grass—without splitting my time with Artifact Refining, Alchemy, and my own cultivation—I bet my three-star Planting Talent would have ensured no inferior-grade stalks at all. And at least ninety percent would’ve been superior-grade.’
"Congratulations on the bountiful harvest, Senior Brother Fang!"
Many of the junior brothers and sisters nearby had already noticed that it was time for Fang Yun to harvest his Qi Nourishing Grass.
Seeing such a harvest despite how little Fang Yun tended to his plants made them question their own methods.
"It certainly is a bountiful harvest," Fang Yun agreed with a nod. "I’m off to find the Steward."
With that, Fang Yun hurried to the nearest Spirit Field Institute.
For planting six mu of Qi Nourishing Grass, he was required to turn over a total of four hundred and twenty stalks.
He had to let the Steward come and take his pick first; the remaining stalks of Qi Nourishing Grass would be his to keep.
"Everyone says Senior Brother Fang is incredibly talented in Alchemy and Artifact Refining, but I think his talent for planting might be even greater."
"I agree. Sometimes I go two days without seeing Senior Brother Fang tend his Qi Nourishing Grass, and he still gets a harvest like this."
"If I don’t tend my Qi Nourishing Grass for two days, I probably couldn’t even grow a single superior-grade stalk."
After Fang Yun left, the nearby Outer Sect Disciples who were also growing Qi Nourishing Grass started talking about him.
Their discussion continued until Fang Yun returned with a Steward.
"Fang Yun, are these the Qi Nourishing Grass you grew?" the Steward asked, sounding a bit incredulous. If he recalled correctly, this particular disciple didn’t seem to spend much time on planting.
"Yes."
"Very impressive."
The Steward offered a word of praise. He first collected the superior-grade Qi Nourishing Grass, followed by two hundred forty-four of the best stalks from the good-grade batch.
He even glanced at the inferior-grade stalks and noticed that some of them weren’t bad at all. With just a little more care, they could have easily been good-grade.
’I’ll need to report this to the Elder.’
