Chapter 11 - Farewell?

Rex finally reached the den, his body battered and exhausted.

Korr questioned, "What happened?" his tone laced with concern.

The young pandas also noticed Rex's battered state. Frowning, they rushed toward him, curiosity and concern reflecting on their faces.

"What happened, Rex?" Kai inquired, his sibling's gazes demanding an explanation.

"Everyone, give him a breather. Let him take his time to explain things," Korr intervened.

Rex's body bore deep claw marks, with dried blood covering him. At a glance, He looked like someone who had just come from a war.

Rex asked everyone to calm down, and after taking a deep breath, he began explaining everything...

From the monkey snatching the fruit—to chasing the monkey deep into the woods—encountering two deadly beasts fighting—taming the young Arcalis—and killing a Ranked wolf.

As Rex explained, he thought, That was quite an adventure, a faint smile appearing on his lips.

When Rex mentioned the name Arcalis, Korr's expression darkened with concern. However, he remained silent, allowing Rex to continue.

"WHAT? You killed a ranked monster al—?" Kai blurted out, disbelief clear in his voice, only to fall silent when Korr glared at him.

Rex continued, keeping his explanation brief.

"I tamed the young beast. Then, its mother distracted the fiery jaguar, creating an opportunity for me to escape," he said, his tone shifting as he mentioned the mother's sacrifice. "Unfortunately, she died to make that possible..." A hint of sorrow laced his voice.

"Just to confirm—the mother willingly let her child be tamed by you?" Korr asked, his concern growing by the second.

"Yes," Rex answered, easing his worries.

"And what about its father?" Korr pressed.

Rex shook his head. "I only saw the Lightning Bird and its child. I think it's dead too—otherwise, it would have come to their rescue."

"Can you show us the beast?" Yue stepped in curiously, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.

"No," Rex straightaway declined, his tone firm—something he had never done before.

Yue blinked in surprise but backed away, deciding not to press further.

Then, he looked at Korr with a sharp, hardened gaze and dropped the bomb—"Also, I will be leaving this forest soon."

Without letting anyone else speak, he pressed on.

"The jaguar beast saw me running out of the cave," he asserted, locking eyes with Korr. "And it's strong—stronger than you. So it's better if I leave quickly," he added, his expression solemn.

"Come on, don't worry, Rex. If that beast comes here, I'll take care of it," Korr said confidently, winking at him, trying to play it cool.

But deep down, Korr knew the truth—he couldn't even handle Arcalis, so fighting the Fiery Jaguar was out of the question. He might have taken the risk alone, but with the children around, hesitation held him back.

"Yeah, Rex. Father will take care of that jaguar—he's really strong," Kai added quickly, backing up Korr's words in an attempt to persuade him.

"Thank you, Kai... I'm truly grateful to everyone here, I really am," he said, forcing a smile before continuing...

"You all treated me like family... I don't even know how I would've survived here without you," Rex murmured, his voice cracking with emotion.

He, too, felt the weight of sadness—leaving the only family who had trained and cared for him all these years. The bond he shared with them was deep.

"Anyhow, I had to leave this forest one day, right? Or would you all rather have confined me in here forever?" He shrugged, forcing a smile, doing his best to convince them.

Korr's shoulders slumped as he let out a sorrowful sigh. "I wouldn't have let you go... but I think it's best if you leave. I'm sorry, Rex. A beast strong enough to kill Arcalis must be incredibly powerful."

"But Father—" Everyone tried to stop Korr, their eyes flickering with the frustration of their own powerlessness.

They knew their father well—he would have protected Rex, even with just a 50% chance of survival. But the truth was undeniable.

"Just become stronger, so this never happens again," Korr rumbled.

"I understand you inside out, Korr," Rex replied in a calm, reassuring tone.

"You don't have to explain yourself. I've already experienced just how powerful that jaguar is... When it looked at me—I froze." Rex shuddered, the memory of its gaze still vivid, sending a chill down his spine.

Everyone fell silent, their mouths slightly open, yet no words came forth.

Eventually, Shun broke the silence and asked, "When will you leave, Rex?"

"I've already wasted too much time. So, in five minutes."

"I'll pack you something to eat. You should get yourself cleaned," Shun replied after looking at Rex.

Rex nodded in gratitude and headed off to clean himself up.

Meanwhile, everyone nodded and dispersed quickly.

Korr rummaged through his collection of treasures—spoils taken from the humans who had dared to attack him.

A few minutes later...

"Here, Rex. I packed some fruits and a few herbs in case you need them," Shun said, handing him the bag.

The towering panda, Korr, approached Rex. "I can't stop you from leaving, but please take these treasures. They aren't much, but they will protect and aid you in the outside world." He handed Rex a worn-out armor and a sharp dagger, far better than his previous one.

Yue stepped forward, handing him a small wooden figure. "I made this wooden figure of myself—so that you'll always remember me," she said, her voice tinged with sadness.

"I don't have anything to give you, but just know—I'll always have your back," Kai said, puffing up his chest and thumping it proudly.

Rex hugged everyone, their fur brushing against his bare skin. Then, without hesitation, he turned to leave. After walking for a while, he glanced back one last time to say his goodbyes to those standing behind.

"Rex!" Kai shouted. "Know that when we meet again—I'll be far stronger than you!" His voice echoed behind Rex as he walked away.

Rex chuckled and waved without looking back—he couldn't bring himself to. Taking a deep breath, he stepped forward, letting the dense trees swallow him as he left for the outer world.

A world full of adventures and unseen dangers awaited him!
